- I'm truck camping in Idaho and fly fishing several amazing streams over the next 10 days of my 9-week truck camping road trip thru Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.
I started my 9 week road trip on July 31, 2022, and spent roughly 3 weeks in WY, ID and MT. Check out all the videos from this trip in the playlist linked below:

Will watch your video on how you find streams, then if I make a video to show how I find streams that would be fun. See how mine compares
My buddy who is a guide in Idaho watched this video and said you are one of the few fly fishing youtubers that can actually fish.
I admire that you venture out alone to fish. I’ve never really done the. I’m retired, lost my wife and have too much time on my hands. You’ve inspired me to get out there and fly fish. Thanks from Idaho
Somebody once said: "Trout don't live in ugly places." Your videos certainly prove that point. Great stuff Drew.
Definitely some truth in that saying!
As an Idaho native I seriously appreciate you not disclosing the nice spots you go to. Can't get enough of your videos. Great work man!
I recognized the location immediately. Can't wait to get back up there this summer!
This is one of your best videos. I appreciate the occasional comments while you fish. It's kind of fun to hear what you are thinking or feeling as you fish.
Nothing better than a day on the river and then enjoying a cold one while taking in the scenery. Love your videos.
Hey Drew, every time I watch your videos I get a mix of joy and extreme jealousy, as well as a fear that these remote places you are in won't be the same when I can finally go explore them. I am going into my senior year of college in Salt Lake City as a ballet and environmental studies double major, so I have a long road ahead of me before I can be taking such amazing trips as you. I still manage to get in a lot of fishing time, I just really want to get off the beaten path and see as much wilderness as I can before climate change can seriously alter them or the beautiful fish they hold. Nevertheless, thank you for your simple yet amazing videos. Tight lines, and I would love to fish with you one day.
Don’t worry. These places will be here way after you are gone. The environmentalists will have banned you from places like this in 10 15 years so you better go when you get the chance.
Great videos. An old dude planning his first trip to ID, getting excited
Magic creek,super mister❤❤❤. Cristal clear water.nice trout.
Your videos are the best brother, dont stop
A whole new meaning to "trout bum"...what a place!
Thank drew for putting these all together...itsmuch appreciated
.mg fly trips are getting harder to do the older I get..quality not quantity is the word...Conejos in a few weeks
The mice in Idaho back country are trained to look for out of state vehicles only. Thanks for letting me know that training was effective 😊
Def one of your best videos. my dream trip
You are giving me a reason to retire. Lol. Great videos. You have shown us some great scenery...Thank you.
I've watched dozens of your videos... and frankly I'm a bit disapointed. I'm disapointed in myself for not getting out more. I live here in Boise, and when I watch how easy you make it look, even in small pocket water, I want to throw my iPad across the room, grab my rod & gear, jump in my Jeep and disappear for a week or two. But, my lovely wife might get the wrong idea. I'd better explain it to her first, or try... Thanks Drew!
Idaho Rocks!
You find the most beautiful places. And they have fish. Well done!
Looks like the area I know well. Plus, the secret, go camping, fishing during the week, not on the weekends. Beautiful area. Chainsaw, mandatory.
Best vid so far. Thx DrewThx for your service, Thx for the time.
REALLY! 🥩 your wife is a PRINCESS SAINT! She supports your fishing adventures all the time. Great vids well done. 👍🏻
Beautiful fish…thanks for taking us along!!
I actually live in Idaho & live this scene a fair share of every Summer. To bad we're full.
When you live in a destination spot, why go anywhere else for vacation?
Great video. These trips are all bucket trips I’d like to do.
Big deer jumped out of the water at about the 320 mark when you first got to the water.
Outstanding is all I can say!
Stunning streams and some stud cuts. Another great video. Well done, Drew.
So cool, love the videos, and I am sure the steak was good.
Nice one Drew! lots of fish over those few days. Thanks for the trip! Cheers
Really enjoy this channel. Started fly fishing seriously this past summer. I relocated to Montana for the summer and fished in the Missoula area and over the border in Idaho in the Clearwater drainage. The fishing in Idaho was awesome. It would be cool if you could identify generally, the river drainage you are fishing without giving up the specific location. Keep fishing Drew! I am in the mid-Atlantic and have to get my trout fix on RUclips until I got back to Montana next summer .
Great camping site.
Drew... you mentioned NC. I take it you are from NC. I am also. Your videos and talking about the equipment etc is very informative. Thank you.
Welcome back!
Hey Drew, your summer vacation videos are much better than most other peoples. 😂 Beautiful country. Thx for sharing all this. 👍
best stagg chilli comercial ever they better pay ya lol
very good video greetings from argentina, thanks
Awesome video and fish.
I know it's edited but man you really catch some fish. Awesome!!
stunning stream, stunning fish, stunning scenery. Of course you deserve a 17$ steak 😋
Geez that’s a lot of big cutts
Beautiful country and some gorgeous fish. 17 bucks for a steak is pretty normal these days..
You mentioned a plane dropping orange balloons near a fire site. That could be what my forestry major college classmates called, 'slurry' or a fire retardant. These guys would work as fire-fighters for the USFS during summers and a couple of times came back for fall classes with skin all tainted by the stuff, having been doused by it during close action with fires.
nicely edited!
Some pretty water
Have you considered trying tight line nymphing to your repertoire, some of that water was screaming ESN to me 😆🎣👍
Biggest was a 6 1/2 lb brown in NZ. Guessing about 28 inches.
Biggest bow about the same.
Biggest brookie about 3lb 18 inches.
How I hope heaven looks
Beautiful 😍
Some of your videos are in some of the places I have fished in past years. At least they look similar if not the same
Hi Drew, I very much like you're way of living and your way of flyfishing. After retirement, next year July I plan a worldtour. To start in Europe, via US/Canada, Patagonia, Mongolia and New Zealand. However, I just wonder: don't you get bored to fish all those years like you're doing? I once made a 4 weeks trip and was glad to be back home again..
By the way: might your cooler fall out for whatever reason: cool your beer in the stream. I used to do that.
27:40 what type of shades are you wearing? I'm looking for replacements.
What hook size are you using on your dropper
16
One of those fish would be great on an open fire
Hey Drew......I don't know if you have discussed this in a previous video, but I was just wondering what awning you were using, I have been on the lookout for one for my truck! I live in Idaho and although we don't get much rain this time of year, I do like to be prepared!
Plus, it's nice to crack one open under cover instead of being stuck in the back of the truck....
I felt your pain when that fish got off.
That one was painful after a long drive and several hours fishing a new stream. Just glad it got so much better!
Which five streams did you go to? I live here in Eastern Idaho and I'm always wanting to find new streams to fish.
Dang drew, you definitely know how to find some of the most beautiful water, and the fish that live there are just as beautiful. Your like me, I want to get away I don't want to see or hear anyone. Enjoyed watching. 👍
That's exactly it. Spend plenty of time around people in the normal activities of life so getting away from that is super important to me.
Great videos! Do you ever catch n eat??
What glass are you wearing? Are they Fantail Pro with Copper 580G?
Yup...I started with copper lenses...but grabbed the sunrise lenses last year and starting to like those more. They really add some brightness to to water wo glare.
Do you believe if you hook a fish it won’t bight again until that sore mouth heals up? Maybe the rest of the day even? I’m an old steelhead fisherman and that’s the talk in my circles. Thanks Drew. Now that I’m old and don’t fished as much your fun to watch.
good shit as always, question though do you use an app to find water or are you old school looking for blue lines on a map.
Got 2 vids that cover how I find streams. Will pin a comment with several vids that cover topics like this one.
I've watched all your videos and a few twice, there that good! Another stunning video Drew! Enjoyed the long form but you could've made 4 or 5 stunning videos out of this adventure and I still would've enjoyed it. Love that your adding more camping, cooking, wildlife shots to go with the fishing! One question, are you using a mic w your gopro? Your audio is good and I can't seem to get that w just a gopro without boosting it in post. Anyways take care, c you on the next one!
Steve at Black Fly ✌️
2 wt? ca 6x tippett? Great videos.
Do you see many Rattle snakes while youŕe out in the back country?
Don’t think there are rattlesnakes in this part of Idaho.
@@thelordmcd2872 there are DEFINITELY rattlesnakes in that part of Idaho (all over the state actually). LOTS of them. Most are very small in overall length
Sure but I don't pay them much attention.
I use them for bait when fishing for Bull Trout.
@@ricravier961that's badass, dude
Beautiful waters once again. Was this from last year’s trip or is this 2023? Thanks again for sharing. I have some time in Utah next week and Colorado in September. M2
Can you please tell us what county you are in? Thanks.
No.
Idaho isn't even real. This was all AI Generated. Don't go there. But if you do go there, you'll probably be in the right county.
maybe someone can help me out here. Does anyone know what the fold down fuel carrier hitch attachment is? Is it a DIY project?
Walk thru it here...ruclips.net/video/LauEhoD8CUg/видео.html
Hey man, love watchin your channel. I do have a couple questions though. Things that stand out. Why do you not only ever mention the streams you fish, not even mention the part of the state your in or a nearby city? Seems a bit odd. Other shows like The New Fly Fisher, and others mention the streams.
Is this eastern Idaho? Near Yellowstone area?
I bet the downed trees are from the God Awful winter that the whole west had although truly a God send of course
What did the WARNING sign say?
I don’t see a tent, do you sleep in your truck?
Yep, I sleep under the camper shell.
Man the western mountains are paradise! Mixed feelings about logging……necessary evil but It gripes me when our resources are pimped out to foreign interest (as in the redwoods)…..anyway, still fantastic out there. I grew up near the Sierra’s in Sacramento and now live in Mountain Home, AR………it has its own beauty but it’s just not the same vibe as the big conifer forests. Fantastic videos man!
I just told my wife that if I won the lottery, I would do this.
Do you ever eat any of your catch?
Yep, but not natives that only live in a fraction of their normal range. An earlier vid has a brook trout catch n cook.
Matt Saracen?
Other video's I see guys crouched, walking slow because of clear low water, I don't do much of that, do you?
why dont u eat the fish?
Nice video , thanks for sharing. Would you recommend an e-bike to get around between main holes and explore? I
an e-bike? really? you obviously have never been to the mountains of Idaho.
@@tbone6924 lol
Nope...I like hiking and getting away from all the conveniences of modern life. I want to see the wildlife, smell the forest and hear the wind but that's just me. FYI, every wilderness area I know of forbids any mechanical mode of transportation.
A loaded logging truck ALLWAYS HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY.
They definitely do!
Another one bites the dust. Squids no brains.
Why do you have to handle the fish? Those fish will die in a couple of hours.
That's completely false. Here's a study done by the University of Idaho that shows no impact reproduction or survival for trout handled 0, 30 and 60 seconds and then released....idfg.idaho.gov/blog/2019/11/fg-fisheries-staff-recognized-catch-and-release-research
trees down may be from the big snow year...
Both great spots! What’s the limit now, 15 nights in a row before moving?? Lol yeah they’d have to kick me down the road.
Stagg chili…yes sir…
No thanks on the Idaho. Not in a million years.
