Nice one! I’m in the market for new effects and you have all the best stuff covered.
I think you’re right about something if it works it works. Not many channels or reviewers say it. I add in effects for my cover band and if something sounds good live then it sounds good no matter what it is. No one will ever come up to you and say your Minotaur doesn’t sound like a centaur live … and even if it wasn’t live. I think there’s so much snobbery about. Everything has its place

I bought one three months ago.
It is a great unit, and I actually took to it quicker than I thought would.
But then the Fractal VP4 came out. It's not even close. Fractal, hands down. Selling my HX Effects.

Hey Joe. Thx for the comment. I just had a look at the Fractal. As a brand they’re out of my budget so I don’t keep up with them. So it has 4 footswitches as opposed to 8, no effects loops, no external switching jacks or expression inputs (from what I can see) and seems to retail at about €1700. Does it do amps as well as effects?
What is it you prefer about it. Is it purely a fidelity / sound quality thing?
      Cheers.

Seems like it has a lot less ability to integrate with your favorite pedals than the HX unit. I’m sure it sounds awesome but it’s a lot more expensive and has less functionality. If you don’t need loops and four buttons are sufficient for your needs and you like the sounds better … sounds like a winner. Not for me though.

This thing is the nerve center for my rig. The loops and midi are completely programmable, the effects sound great (although they do need some tweaking) and pretty much every setting can be set to change with different snapshots and even within a button (like the button can switch your always-on drive between boost and overdrive). You can also name your snapshots and rename your stomp buttons. It’s pretty amazing.

Hey Philip. Thx for the comment. I’m the exact same. It’s a fantastic nerve centre. Nothing out there like it.

Hey thx for the comment. I’m not familiar with Dokken I’ll look them up. Question though why are you using two? Why not just put the SLO pedal in an effects loop and run some effects before and some after?

The slo in the effects loops takes away from the sound of the pedal alters it some

Great stuff, thx! I didn't get how you control the two sides of the Pedal via the switching jacks you mentioned at around 23:35. I understand you only need one fx loop to do so, could you please explain?

    • @TheGuitarEffect

Hey Gretchen. Thx for the comment. Yeah it’s not straightforward. There’s an extra piece of gear involved called the gig rig remote loopy 2. It’s an input and two FX loops and an output. Each effect loop can be remotely bypassed with 1 TRS relay switch in. So I’m using one of the exp/amp control jacks to switch the loops on and off. Separate to that the double dreamer has the capacity to independently plug in both sides using a Y cable. So basically each side is running into one effects loop of the remote loopy 2 and the HX effects is selecting those loops. Does that make sense? Sorry, it’s hard to explain.
The same principle would work with a NUX ace of tone for example, which has a remote switching jacks for each side.

    Great video, informative and enjoyable.
I did have a HX Effects a few years ago(now using a Stomp XL), do you detect any tone suck on the HXFX ?
    Best Wishes

Hey thx for the comment. To be honest I think tone suck to the level where it’s a problem is a problem for tonal purists. I’m not a tonal purist I’m more of a songwriter. So I’m the wrong person to ask. I’ve never noticed problematic tone suck.

I cannot get my head around snapshots and how to make it save the effects I need for different parts on the same track. The thing has stayed in its box for years except for when I give it yet another go and end up going back to pedals…with knobs and an on/off button.

Hey. Thx for the comment. So firstly there are demos online that might help with he snapshots thing for sure. They’re pretty handy once you get your had round them. And very useful.
But to be honest if you have pedals that you like and the to dancing thing isn’t a problem for you. Why change it?
I think the HX effects comes into its own if you put your favorite pedals into the loops and use snapshots for combinations of the onboard effects and the pedals.

@ Hi Thanks for replying and for making the video.
I thought I would be able to understand the L6Fx but it just confused me. I do need the ability to multi switch effects but never know how to get multi fx to work due to having to learn to programme them etc and because I have ADHD and it’s such things are apparently beyond me. Not uncommon lol and no fault of the devices, just me. Such a pain in the rear as it does hold me back.
Also have been looking at the M Wave because it’s so cheap, seems easy and sounds good. Analogue guy in a digital/MIDI world….

If you tell me what you need. Depending on how many presets there are I could program on my HX effects and give you a link to download it for yours.
