@user-dx2hl8sn9b @floyd75dylan and @invincibleasia I find it very frustrating when some companies do whatever they want to do on a bootleg release that ignores proper licensing, and then legit companies' releases are criticized/negatively compared to those for not illegally including copyrighted materials. The 88 team are hardcore Jackie Chan fans and 100% want to release the ultimate version that we all crave. I promise you they did everything they could to release ISLAND OF FIRE with both the Hong Kong theatrical version (which they did) and also the longer Taiwanese version, but their hands were tied Thankfully they were at least allowed to include all that extra footage from the Taiwanese print as a special feature on their release. You better believe that 88 would include every version of a film, all making of/special features, and every single audio track (English dubs, etc) available for each film if they were legally able to. They never exclude a dub just because they don't care about it. When something is excluded you can bet there's some frowning, tie-wearing pencil-pusher behind the scenes with a big, red, "NO!" stamp in hand. (Bastards!)
I get the feeling if Eureka had hold of Island of Fire they probably would've done a HD restoration of both cuts on blu ray, & probably done a limited edition run where you get the Hybrid Cut with all the deleted scenes put back in the longer version on a separate disc.
Looking forward to seeing this one, I must of missed the DVD release from HKL back in the day. Ordered along with 'The Bodyguard From Beijing' which is also a first time watch.
Really looking forward to revisiting this one when I get it, such a shame the Taiwanese version couldn't be included in full though as I was hoping this would be a full definitive package (and I've still never gotten around to seeing the full print after all these years). Hopefully 88 Films still has a few more Chan's in the works, I'm hoping for Fantasy Mission Force at some point.

whats the betting this gets a re-release in couple yrs with the 2 cuts of the movie 88 have done this with a few Jackie movies, 88 have been very lacklustre cut n paste with this release.
Still need to pick this up along with Bodyguard from Beijing but unfortunately as my wallet is not light enough I need to wait for next month to get it. Yes a bit of shame that the 88 Films release does not have the extended Taiwanese cut in full form and does have the same transfer as the German one which is not the case as Golden Sun Films still owns the rights for Island of Fire (I believe the restoration was actually done in a decade ago). But still it’s all 88 has got for us. I do love Sean Longmore’s artwork though especially that Jackie Chan facial expression. Wondering if Vinegar Syndrome (or other boutique labels like Severin and Error 4444) is going to release Island of Fire with their additional restoration work and full extended Taiwanese cut maybe sooner?

Is there a reason the German version just isn’t available anywhere? I couldn’t even find a copy on eBay and the only one I could find was on Amazon Germany for 56 euro
Hi my friend i had the Taiwanese version on vhs in 1991 i got it from a bruce and jackie roadshow in Birmingham it was excellent i saw hong kong legends version after but didn't really make same impact. So can you answer me one question please is it version where sammo gets killed last or is it jackie because hong kong legends version messed end up completely so much more powerful the sammo ending.
Way much better than the so called American martial arts Garbage and terrible Hollywood knockoffs courtesy of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes Jean claude van damme, mel Gibson, Chuck Norris and Bruce Willis who rely on autoaim when they fire a weapon that cannot hit a target practice and deliver ridiculous punch lines with parody catchphrases Rest in peace Jimmy Wang Yu kung fu movie legends never die
George dude it gets worse the next few releases we get no poster what we get is the equivalent of toilet paper also known as there is no art but we’re going to call the cards art cards anyway. Not happy if this is the route seriously on 88 and I would just import the damn things because these movies are so bloody old it doesn’t make any difference anymore like they’re not gonna at least go with their trend and start giving you absolute garbage inside the box I’m not interested I hope they understand very very quickly. They screwed up and anyone that’s ever bought anything from their website gets the missing posters from or releases whether or not they bought movie anyway I’m really gutted especially as it was one of the first times I was about to get a, vampire paper sub to his head poster and no no obviously you can buy stuff like that but yeah it sucks anyway thanks for the video dude I’ll see this one. Does the poster even though I wouldn’t personally use that one I do more with it then I would I hate this. They suck the photos you can get off the Internet
I agree, 88 Films are slacking on many things which is not good. Then they release one of two big editions to win everyone over again - then back to basics. Such a shame. But hey, we still buy them which is why they keep releasing lol

Yeah I was really hoping this would have been the best of the best, but hey! A small let down but maybe someday we'll see it restored :)
