Man this song today gave me a come to Jesus moment. Helped me find something to fight for when the depression is getting dark. Thought of my friends hurting and how I gotta fight to stay here and help them.

I grew up with the Goo Goo Dolls. They got me through some tough teen years as well as some of the young adult ones. I thought I had drifted apart from them when "Something for the Rest of Us" came out and completely when "Magnetic" came out due to the new sound that just wasn't my style. I'm not one of those "fans" who will diss a band for not sticking to one sound. I realize that sometimes when a band grows and moves to a new sound that you don't always go with them and this was true for me and the Goo's. I resigned myself to this fate, but this album has brought me back for the time being. It fits me and my taste in music for the past 3-5 years now. I'm happy I found my way back to one of my all time favorite bands.

Do you know how many times the Goo's have changed their sound? I'm not much of a punk rocker (although I did buy their first 2 albums that were punk) and admit I'm not a fan of the Early Goo's either. I just felt that "Something" and "Magnetic" had more of a folky feel to them then their previous albums. Magnetic was the more electronic popish/ folky album to me. I still bought those two albums, but they are the least played on my ipod. I can still be a Goo fan and not agree with all of their discography. It's silly to try and pull that "any Goo fan" crap. I grew up on these guys. they were the first album I ever bought. There are just certain albums I dislike over others, but I don't complain. I'm pretty sure the earlier Goo fan's would complain about you and I liking the post "Iris" Goo Goo Dolls, as their are the "Pre Iris" and the "Post Iris" fans out there due to, again, their sound changing. The Goo's have always been pretty exploratory with their sound; some are a hit for me and other are not. I like this sound. I wont bash you for liking the two albums I found to be my least favorite. Not sure why my opinion offends you so much, as it's just that - an opinion.
When you say General, do you mean that I have an eclectic taste in music? Cause if that is what you mean, then yes. I like anything that sounds good to me, which isn't much lately. I may lean towards Alternative rock and metal more, but hey, if I hear a song I like, I could care less what genre it's from.(still waiting to hear a song from the country and folk genres that I can stand) Isn't that what music is suppose to do? Transcend? Pop music just mean "popular", as in popular sounding music and that can fall under any category. The Goo's have been Pop for sometime now (from A Boy Named Goo). I get what you mean with the absence of the guitar, base and drums. That last being understandable as they no longer have a full time drummer since Mike's departure/firing. Although, you can do some pretty awesome things with a guitar to get some funky sounds with the proper equipment, so maybe you're looking for a more raw, classic sounding guitar and bass? Which is absent from this album. I get it. It's really all just subjective in what any of us consider too pop for us or too far away from rock. But I will say, the minute the Goo's became famous, they became pop and no longer alternative in the original sense of that term as alternative is suppose to represent bands that are not mainstream. I guess for those fans who don't like the whole taylor swift pop music are saying that this is as far as their pop experience goes? It's them dipping their toes into the water without having to dive completely in.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, it all depends on the degree of pop that we feel comfortable with. Our comfortability levels are different, but I wont delude myself into thinking that this album isn't just as much in the pop genre as their last 6 albums before Boxes were. They create these albums in hopes of getting radio play, so they have to make it as pop sounding as possible while still trying to stay true to themselves and be as creative as possible. I just didn't care for the degree of pop and other non rock genre infused sounds I heard on the last two albums. It's cool that you liked them. If you didn't and they didn't sell, then they still wouldn't be making music. I just hope they can do this for as long as they can/want to regardless if this maybe the last album I like or not.
After Gutterflower, I fell outta touch with them, & I think it's partially because they don't always pick the best singles. I thought Better Days was just ok & didn't like Give a Little Bit at all. SFTROU had Notbroken, which again was just ok, then I completely missed Magnetic. This album repeaked my interest, then I went back to see what I missed (i.e. Rebel Beat & Hey Ya)
