Hi :] I've watched a decent amount of your videos now and I appreciate how real you are when talking about the trials and tribulations of starting your own business. I'm interested in potentially doing the kind of thing you do currently and I'm trying to get more eyes on my art. I'm in the very beginning of my online art journey so seeing content like yours and knowing that you're also just beginning and learning is very comforting. I sincerely wish you the best and I'll be excited to see how things develop for you. Keep trying your best !
Wow thank you! I was struggling so much and felt really bad about where I am starting but I think it’s important to show the rough beginnings of a business and not just show the end where everyone is already doing amazing. I also really hope you do start because it’s amazing and nothing is as satisfying as doing what you love!
That’s awesome you got into San Japan! I will also be vending there 😅 (not panicking at all) GalaxyCon OKC was also a first year con. Even though I’m local, I passed on that one. Have you joined the Artist Alley Network? I heard about it in one of Mualcaina’s videos and it’s been very helpful community for learning about cons, displays, etc. Also, if you haven’t seen her videos yet, Lindsay at Single Sploot is in Washington and is 100% original art, she has a lot of event/convention vlogs Best of luck with your shop and art goals!
Yes I have watched both of them! Also don’t worry I’m freaking out too! I was shocked the lottery gods picked me. And no I’m not in the artist alley network how do I do that?
Its really great that you are showing the small business side of it of starting off new. A lot of people have the higher expectations of pulling in thousands but they are established already. I wasn't able to get into san japan. But I do hope it goes well for you. Artist Alley Network is where you can get tips on how to improve your set up. I do agree with only doing fanart that you love to do rather then going what is popular. Because that burns you out so quick. Doing niche stuff you love also brings in customers because you might get customers that also follow your interest. And become your core audience.
Just recently started following your journey and wow are you an inspiration! The One Piece fanart look cute, too. Hope everything turns out for the best !
Ooooo I was so excited to see a Glaxycon OKC vlog. I live in OK and I was thinking of attending but then I needed to go out of town to see family. I'm sorry you didn't profit. However when you said you didn't have fanart that makes total sense. I do artist alley and the first year I thought I would do okay just promoting my original indy comic and prints from my comic. Bad idea. I bombed. So many people will not buy anything if they are not already a fan. So this year I have a ton of fanart made. I'm not as excited about making fanart as I am my original characters but it's my only hope of making table and hotel back sadly. I hope your next convention is amazing! Good luck!
I imagine part of it is that it was that it was a first year con, but also the galaxy con charges a lot for Oklahoma. I don't run any tables but I do consider it for every con. I think most tables out here in Oklahoma run from $20-$200 and 200 is for prime spots. So hopefully galaxycon will change table prices for Oklahoma
I just think that you and your neighbor having yellow set ups was so cute! But that's really disappointing that the con was such a bust---HERE'S THE THE NEXT CON BEING A HIT!
Just as a warning, I've consistently heard Galaxycons are usually not great saleswise for most artists bc it's more focused on celebrity guests. I've been warned against it.
@RubysArtsyLife Yeah, from my one experience at one and hearing from friends: basically if you don't have primarily fanart of whatever is popular that season (anime, comics, whatever), sales aren't great. Part of the reason is also that Galaxy con isn't really a "anime con" or "comic con", it's a general geek con which makes it hard to know your audience.
@@RubysArtsyLife Sorry, I should've specified. But yes, unforunately. I went to Animate! Raleigh this year, and only the established artists w/ popular series (JJK, Demon Slayer, etc) made money. It was very dead. I will say it was the first year, but Galaxy con and Animate are run by the same company and have the same issues :(
@@RubysArtsyLife A lot of the allegations made against Vivianne, the greater of Hazbin Hotel are false, or have already been addressed. She’s not as problematic like folks have claimed. Please do your own research! Hazbin and Helluva Boss are great shows!

Thank you! Is artist alley network a discord?

Yeah! I have tons of fanart stuff in the works for my next 2 conventions

Yeah I agree 407 is pretty steep for a first year con. My brother did summer con in Puyallup wa and it was like 300 for a corner vendor spot.

Yes!!! Next con is Animate in Columbus July 19th! We will be able to see in real time how having fanart effects sales and success of a con!
🎉🎉🎉 Amazing Video!
Thank you!

Thank you for the heads up! And it makes sense from how the cons are. They had constant announcements for the celebrity guests.

@MsMvsc wow thank you for that info, does the same go for animate which is also ran by galaxy con?

@MsMvsc well all I can do is pray I at least make back table
Sorry to hear the con was so bad for everyone. :(
Nha, don't get involved with HH. The creator is superproblematic.
Who is HH?
