Just so you know it is very possible to create synthetic diamonds, it is done all the time in industry with high heat and pressure. However, I did this video because I had a lot of requests to make diamond. This was and April Fool's joke method I found online. It is not possible to make diamonds this way:)
A E S T H E T I C M E M E S does your life really suck so hard that you feel that you need to insult others to validate your pitiful existence? It's sad really. Get help.
Synthetic diamonds are real and possible and made in labs every day, and we don't have access to the same power as the Earth. A microwave can produce it, just not much and not fast.
I assume that you saying "I wish this was how it works" means that you wish you could make your own diamonds. But that doesn't make any sense, because people already make real lab made diamonds. The process already exists. It's just a tad more complex than pressing carbon.
I have to wonder if any of you watched the entire video. The actual process of making the real diamond was cheaper than having to buy a hydraulic press.
I used to made industrial diamonds at General Electric. We would make a sleeve that looked like a roll of coins. There would be thin piece of graphite, then a thin piece of metal alternating back and forth. We put the sleeve in a die and then in a hydraulic press. Then we ran an electric current through it for the heat. Depending on the size of diamonds were we making determined the pressure, current and time it was under pressure. It wasn't magic.
ProdigPL it's fake diamond can't be made just like that, diamond also needs to be compressed for years and years that'd why so many dislikes because It's impossible
Well technically you're wrong, because the atoms are already those of a diamond, what doesn't change, and is necessary to make the graphite turn into diamond, is the change in structure.
I think these videos are great and appreciate that someone is willing to use the time and resources to do these experiments and share them with everyone!!
defq He said at the end even if he were able to make more of it, that it is very low quality and it's synthetic, both of which make the value absolutely crap.
Its what they call industrial diamond I believe. Diamond tipped cutting tools for example would use this kind of diamond. So the diamond isn't worthless so to speak, it has its purpose. But you wouldn't be making jewelry out of it, as it would be worthless in that sense.
I'M SO GLAD I LOOKED THIS UPPPP My friend told me about how she just microwaves graphite and turns it into diamond. She's rich and I wanted to see what would happen. I'm sooooo thankful you made this video. Now I won't accidentally burn my house down. Still gonna tell her I tried it and made LOTS of diamonds. Hoping she'll try this out and burn her house.
You didn't reach the weight required. Which is a 125 miles of earth crust for weight. Plus add 2000 degrees of heat temperatures. Then and let it cook for 900 million years. That is for a new born diamond. But, if you are patient and can let the diamond cook, for an additional Billion years, you will get a better diamond.
guy, plasma is 10000 degrees not 1200. Also plasma molecules are even more energetic than in a gaseous state, the electrons and neutrons are free from each other so they could not stack themselves somehow into a neatly stacked carbon arrangement (diamond). Also plasma is formed by microwaving a gas, not oil soaked graphite.
this is actually pretty cool, if people learn how to make a "crucible" that handles that heat, people can make diamonds from graphite in a simple microwave, but the crucible would have to be a little small, but still handling the heat
LoveCats They can be made synthetically too, but it requires lab condition where such material has to be heated to an extermly high temperature as well as pressure.
there are companies that artificially make diamonds using dynamite explosions, that's the kind of diamond used on saw blades, drill bits, and some sand papers. But they don't use graphite pencil lead lol
You can't put an empty cup in the microwave. Every single microwave has that warning on the front cover of the instruction booklet. It has always been this way.
Thecrazeecow if you make one and sell it, it won't sell for about 1000 $ or pounds or whatever. that's called man-made. however if there was a magical site that spawns diamonds like Minecraft, that would be awesome. you can only sell man made diamonds for about 12 $ or whatever
Leo Nakamura That is definitely true. The diamond, itself, WILL lose its overall value, kind of like "diamond inflation". Just like how the U.S. keeps lowering the value of the dollar by printing so much money!
Googahgee it's is possibly. You need around 500-1000 tons of pressure per square inch. If he had a smaller piece he actually could have done it. That's not putting into factor the heat and time needed
Devin garrison well duh. he said 1200 degrees. even if his estimate was half of what it actually was, the MELTING point of graphite is over 3000 degrees, let alone the ionization point.
spoiler alert: you cant It takes a *fucking immense* amount of pressure and heat + time to make diamonds way more than what humans are capable of doing currently
My dad was working in a carbon mining before time . In his break time he is taking the small bright glasses sticking in the carbon as small as rice. He don't even know what kind of stone it was but as of him he really adore it because when he try to scratch the glass of bottle it will work and it is so amazing . He said the stone was so strong and sharp. As he estimated it turns around 1kg. Unfortunately he left the stones on their small house because he got sick and he needs to go to City. The entire premise of using olive oil as a heat source in a microwave is flawed. Olive oil does not heat well in a microwave due to the fact it lacks water’s polarity. Almost all of the heating that occurred was a result of the very conductive graphite arcing from the current induced in the graphite by microwave energy. What is visible is the arcing graphite...not exactly plasma.
I'm gonna try hearing olive oil in the microwave now just out of curiosity. I'll get back to you with the results. Suppose I'll try for 30 seconds first then a minute then maybe 2. I figure if it takes longer than a minute and a half you have a point XP
Scratch that I wasn't thinking about it just hearing up I was thinking about it becoming hot lol I suppose if it takes longer than 20-30 seconds to heat up a decent amount like a noticeable amount you have a point
Well I tried it with both the same amount of water and oil both in the same container for the same amount of time. Heated it for 30 seconds and indeed the water was hotter than the oil but the oil was still pretty warm. I didn't use a thermometer cause I was lazy but the oil felt a hotter luke warm like maybe 115-120. The water felt like it was idk probably around 130ish but like I said I didn't use a thermometer just my finger. I could dip my finger in the water for a second or two before it became a bit too hot. So I'd say you're right to a degree like yes oil doesn't heat up as well as water in the microwave but it heats up more than you think.

Welcome to another episode of "Is It a Good Idea To Microwave This?"
I thought I was the only one who remembered that show.
I was kinda hoping to see it under a micrpscope tbh

Was there any clarity to these? Or was it just dust? This is literally something i could do.
Why so many dislikes? That method is showed at Instructables, and it works, but in microscopic amount.
I thought it was pretty dope. Never knew you could make diamond that way.
ProdigPL it's fake diamond can't be made just like that, diamond also needs to be compressed for years and years that'd why so many dislikes because It's impossible
Maybe because he doesn't even show the "diamond" under a scope.
Well technically you're wrong, because the atoms are already those of a diamond, what doesn't change, and is necessary to make the graphite turn into diamond, is the change in structure.
He forgot the most important part heating the graphite, diamonds are created through immense heat and pressure.
Does his face in the end look fake to you, or is it just me?
yes his face look fake but it's not fake
ThatRandomGal he needs heat
ThatRandomGal lol

Try to fold a piece of paper 8 times
10 times
Diamond Siblings actaully, assuming you are using normal paper, you can barely do 7.
Ricky Avila it explodes at 8, too much pressure
9 is the record for folding paper so that's why I said 10
Leo Landi
it really doesn't
mythbuters tried it with a piece of paper the size of an hangar , and could only fold it 7 times
Well I know how im getting rich... Bobby hand over your pencil lead were becoming millionaires!!!!
Hannah H. I laughed way harder at this than I should
XD lol youd lose more money through power cost and makeshift crucibles than youd make back
They don't Make pencils made out of lead anymore
No you can't, you need heat as well. If it were that easy to make diamonds they would be cheap as shit
Dank Squidge keep watching the video
diamonds were really cheap, the mines were loaded but the company's got rid of loads for their price to inflate
Dank Squidge actually diamond are quite cheap they just artificially restrict the supply making prices rise dramatically
It's_a thing.
dude i said that 1 minuet ago xD
Dank Squidge diamonds are cheap they just send small supplies to the market to give the illusion of rarity
My gaydar is going off
so you're gay breh?
Wahoojie a gaydar is something straight men normally have to detect and avoid gays
so you're stupid?
Cole Miller no just a homophobic Christian
Jacob riddle no actually a gaydar is something gay men have to detect other gays. look it up ;)
What's with the dislikes? It's not a clickbait, it 'didn't' say it 'will' work. Unless you watch the very end, lol.
Almost became one, needed more time.
He gets a lot of dislikes simply because he created a Hydraulic Press channel after someone else did, so every one thinks he's copy catting.
Nerdly Neighbor it is because of the thumbnail "there be a diamond" implying that he made diamond

defq Diamonds are actually incredibly common. But the jewelry industry sells them for a lot, which makes them seem rarer than they are.

congratulations Mr. Stark, you just invented a new element

4:00 plot twist the microwave explodes
Huh?
but it did
If this worked then diamond lovers would be doing it on a daily basis
2200 people thought they were going to get big crystal clear diamonds out of a hydraulic press
This dude is probably the guy who made that oil company.
this is actually pretty cool, if people learn how to make a "crucible" that handles that heat, people can make diamonds from graphite in a simple microwave, but the crucible would have to be a little small, but still handling the heat
Diamonds can be made of coal, but only after millions of years and a shit ton of pressure
LoveCats They can be made synthetically too, but it requires lab condition where such material has to be heated to an extermly high temperature as well as pressure.
You are talking only about natural diamond... And a large one at that. Diamond is created extremely fast when under the right conditions.

Leo Nakamura that's not true at all. Man made diamonds are worth almost as much as natural ones
Corn Bread o well I'm pretty dumb so lel you probs right xD
Leo Nakamura That is definitely true. The diamond, itself, WILL lose its overall value, kind of like "diamond inflation". Just like how the U.S. keeps lowering the value of the dollar by printing so much money!

Answer: NO, you need much more pressure than a hydraulic press can make. Don't watch the video when the answer is basically no.
Googahgee it's is possibly. You need around 500-1000 tons of pressure per square inch. If he had a smaller piece he actually could have done it. That's not putting into factor the heat and time needed
JESUS so many idiots commenting stupid shit he ALREADY stated, before watching the video
Googahgee watch the video please.
You also need extreeme heat about 2000c°

spoiler alert:
you cant

How can he steal a thumbnail when its stuff from his own video
I wonder who actually believes this
