Today we are looking at even more TikTok skincare routines!
TikTok really is a platform for extravagant skincare routines. 20 steps, crazy tools, and using products wrong on purpose.
So today we take a look at some of those routines and see if there's any... questionable products and techniques!

I appreciate that people want to be a bit bougie or extravagant in their skincare from time to time to pamper themselves. But it's really just a matter of diminishing returns. Are three sheet masks ACTUALLY doing more for your skin than a single one? Are six toners ACTUALLY providing more benefit than one? We all like to treat ourselves but at what point is it simply just wasteful? The pure spectacle of consumerism that TikTok and other platforms promote is kinda sad.

Eye rinses are quite common in Japan, especially for people with allergies. I love mine for whenever I've worn mascara because there's just so much residual makeup left floating around in your eyes. They can also be soothing for contact wearers. But I also doubt that any doctors would recommend them since you can't really sanitize the cup.

My optometrist recommended me using eye rinse with a cup when I was working as a dog groomer. I live in the US and I was able to buy it at CVS or Albertsons (i forget where I actually got it)
The cup had to be washed before and after using it(I washed with regular soap and water)
Using the cup was better than regular eye rinsing with saline bottle because it can get messy with excess saline dripping all over your face and neck😅
I still use it when my eyes are itchy from pollen or when its irritated from dirt/dust from a windy day😁

I'm sure the cup and the saline solution are sanitzed or could be sanitized, but what I'm worried about is the bacteria on your skin around your eye. When you tip the cup up, the water sloshes all around your eye area including your eyelid and eyelashes. It seems like it would wash all the bacteria from your surrounding skin directly into your eye. I can't see this doing anything but making your eye problems worse. I would never ever do this unless instructed by a doctor.

The rhinestones were probably attached with either liquid latex or spirit gum. Most likely latex because with spirit gum, you can also get spirit gum remover, so that would've been easier to remove. I'm only guessing based on the fact that I do SFX makeup quite often and I am all too familiar with the struggle of removing latex. I used to work in an optometric practice that sold a LOT of those eye rinse cups. From my schooling, I can tell you that they're not great for you, because they wash away a lot of the oily layer in your tears that prevents evaporation. You'd be FAR better off keeping your lid margins clean and gently exfoliated, avoiding artificial lashes, replacing eye cosmetics frequently and taking GOOD CARE of your contact lenses. Use a saline rinse if you get something in your eyes, absolutely, but don't make it a part of your nightly routine.

Cleaning eyes is the new detox it seems. You drink green juice to detox your liver and kidneys - the organs that do the real detoxing. Now you can shove a solution in your eyes - to clean a self cleaning organ.
The best thing I did was to shove a k-tip down my ears when I was young. I got a clump of wax next to my ear drum. That hurt so bad I had to go to the doctor to have it removed. The pain plus the lecture I got from the doctor kept me from doing it ever again and learning to trust doctors when they say: LEAVE IT ALONE.

It's just funny to me how there are so many people who are naturally blessed with clear skin, almost no pimples and they do these crazy skincare routines thinking they are doing something. In reality they are just damaging their skin in the long run. Just because someones skin looks clear doesnt mean their skin is healthy (especially with all those filters that are used on the internet)
And then people see these videos and think that the routine must work when their skin is so beautiful! Like no, their skin would look the same (and probably even better) if they used a fucking dove soap and water. It just looks clear by nature. 😂

As someone who has had major eye surgery, eye rinses are not needed (as far as my surgeon recommended). All you need are some saline/moisturizing drops for when the eyes get very dry and irritated. Something beneficial you can do once a month is use cool-boiled-water (still slight warm) and a lint free cotton round/towel. Very gently massage the eye lid in small circular motions. This helps relax your eye muscles and just help with any eye strain. It does tend to make your vision slightly blurry afterwards (due to relaxed muscles) so definitely don’t do it too often, and always be very gentle around the eye area! 😁

      @emilymulcahy 2 года назад +14

The rinses are drying, much like saline solution in the eye, you should only use them if you have an infection that is causing crusties, since it's less painful and scarring than rubbing, or if you get something in your eye, it's good to have if you get dust or an eyelash often, or frequent stys

to remove the rhinestones, i’d say the most effective, gentle method would be to apply isopropyl myristate, wait a few minutes, then gently rub them off - isopropyl myristate melts latex, so if you used a latex based adhesive (like eyelash glue or prosaide) it’ll literally melt it away and make it super easy. if you used spirit gum, u gotta use spirit gum remover to get that off, and that shit will be irritating as hell. honestly pros-aide cream is the best adhesive for prosthetic applications - it’s strong but it’s still gentle enough to be non-irritating on the skin - i have sensitive acne prone skin and had zero issues with it when we were learning prosthetics in makeup school.

She probably used Spirit Gum to stick them on with and it’s usually sold with adhesive remover. It will break down the adhesive and make it easier to remove. If you have sensitive skin I wouldn’t recommend using Spirit Gum even with the adhesive remover. The product and irritation that just comes with having something on your face will likely irritate your skin and cause a flare up anyway. Test it on a part of your face that is the most sensitive and only put one or two stones on and keep them on for a few hours, then take them off with the remover to see if you’re sensitive to the remover as well. That way if you do have a reaction, it’s just in one small place and likely won’t scar as bad or cause a bad reaction over your whole face. If you’re very sensitive to products I’d do this with every new product you try.

Eye rinses should only be used if you get something in your eyes or they are infected somehow as they can be drying, but since it's just saline it's safe

Omg that's exactly me! Has to be even no weird digging. Definitely no crumbs in butter.. I've had people at work ask if they could use my butter, and I'm like sure but... 1. no crumbs in the butter
    2. no scraping butter off your knife on the edge of the container
    3. do not dig holes in it, keep it smooth

Omgg the girl with the rhinestones. I don’t know what she used to stick them on, but a proper SFX artist would use a skin-safe adhesive like ProsAid. And to take them off with the least amount of trauma (at least imho) you would want to soak cotton pads in isopropyl myristate (an SFX solvent) and let the ProsAid slowly dissolve until you can gently wipe them away. Her trick with the cleansing balm was a decent substitute, but it looks like she didn’t let the stones soak enough before scraping them off.
Scraping off prosthetics and SFX stuff is tempting, but your skin will hate you afterwards. Always use a remover. 😬

Ever. Lol. I know most of these ppl just do these extra steps for views, but dang they're excessive and can be full of misinformation. One thing I am curious about is those eye wash/rinse things. Wtf are those?? Maybe I'm too old and stuck in my ways, but trying some of these new things worries me. Lol

@@vanityplates3125 I use the eye washes. They basically help if your eyes are irritated or you feel like you have dirt/eyelash or they feel gritty to help wash them out. It helps if your eyes are dry and feel like sandpaper too. I wouldn't recommend them for people who can't open their eyes under water though because that's what you have to do with the one I have lol. Your eyes feel soo fresh after I can imagine how it would be a lil addictive.

I learned from my Yoga instructor (who is an Indian buddhist and followed old yoga traditions) that letting your sweat ‘dry’ actually made sure that you bring important minerals back into your body. Don’t know if that’s really an old yoga tradition and if there’s any truth or science behind it, but worth mentioning I guess. I never let my sweat dry though because it feels wrong 😂

sweat is a fluid waste our bodies use to cool off, but it also gets rid of excess water and salt, as well as a waste product called urea.
