When we were building our house, people had a lot of opinions on what we should or should not do or add because of “re sale value” but we chose to build our home that was the best fit for our family. When or if you sell it, the new owners will remodel it to their liking anyway! Might as well enjoy your home while it’s yours!

    • @RubyRubyheart
      @RubyRubyheart 2 года назад +9

Exactly. And ceiling fans can be pretty cheap if the new owners really want them. They can just install them where the central fixture is in each room. Easy peasy.
Whenever you plan to live in a place for more than about 3 years, it’s definitely best to make it your own. When it comes to easily replaceable items, design for yourself, not for future owners.

Agreed, especially if you intend for it to be your home for a long time, do what you enjoy and want, not what is best for 'resale'.

@@jmonta21 If you’re referring to the new home they are currently fixing up, yes they do own it along with the bank. They bought it, I think from the church Ben works for. The church is right next door to the house. Why would you think they’d be allowed to do so much reconstruction on a home they don’t even own? And why would they bother? Even if a landlord allowed it, who would be willing to spend thousands improving a home they don’t own?

I am seeing lots of head and eye injuries as a result of those drawer pulls, the corners are extremely sharp. A little one that comes running to mom while she is in the kitchen can smack their head or eye on one of those corners.
As far as ceiling fans go, we have them in our bedrooms and living room to help circulate the air and save on our Air Conditioning/heating bills (electricity is extremely high here). Living in a fixed income and having major health conditions requires me to budget wherever I can to be able to afford meds and pay bills.

Ceiling fans save money on power bills. They help bring warm air down in the winter and create a wind chill to help cool the room in the summer. Most people will put in ceiling fans if they were to buy your house. There are some really nice looking ceiling fans now.

We have never had ceiling fans in our 2 homes. We simply opened windows if the weather was nice or used the AC. I like primitive/country decorating which doesn't really look right with ceiling fans. Your new home looks so nice. The Lord is so good!!

Ceiling fans are tremendous at circulating air in the summer and pushing down the heat that rises in the winter. There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about them, to me personally, however, the more modern ones I've seen with 3 blades closer set to the ceiling arent bad. I really feel they work nicely regulating cool and warm air.

Bottom line, having ceiling fans can help save money.
Ceiling fans actually are great for saving heating and ac costs. In the winter they help circulate the rising heat down instead of wasting it on the ceiling. And in the summer the fan circulates the cool air upward instead of the cool air being wasted on the floor.

I won't lie... you showed the light and I went, "Wow! No fan?" But I also notice you have an attic fan, and that's how I grew up, with that and sometimes window fans until it was warm enough for AC. I don't think it would even register if I were buying a house. I'm learning that it's best to just do what you want with your own home, and stop worrying about resale value. What you've done looks amazing! As long as you love it and it suits your needs... that's all that matters!

That looks amazing! I am going to suggest, however, that you have your bathroom light changed. We recently had our bathroom renovated and I specifically told the contractor that I wanted the light globes down. He ignored my request and installed them globes up like yours. They did a great job of lighting up the ceiling but provided no light for the mirror or countertop. Besides, the bulbs are much easier to change when the globes are facing down. I had the contractor correct the mistake. BTW-I truly enjoy watching your kids. They are adorable and have so much character! :)

Those hardwood floors are stunning! 😍 As far as ceiling fans go, down here in Texas they are common in every room. I grew up in a home where they ran 365 days a year and now I can’t sleep without one! 😂

Love the black front door and the black hardware and accents throughout. Also love all the ceiling lights as well. I really like the granite and solid granite backsplash in the kitchen, easy to clean and not detracting and busy like some backsplashes can be. You have really nice taste Jessa! I already have a black front door and garage door. Think I am gonna steal your idea on the black doorknobs through the inside, lol. Regarding the ceiling fans, we only have them in the bedroom, but rarely use it. Design for your preference, you are the ones living in the house. Even if you had fans up and resell, the new owner might have a different style and replace them anyway. Go with your style and taste, you are doing a great job!

Ceiling Fan Lesson 101: during the the 1970’s energy crisis, fans gained popularity because they were less expensive than running home air conditioning units. A ceiling fans primary purpose is to circulate air in a room. AC’s chill air, but fans move the air around, so they are good for cooling & heating.
I also think the ceiling fans were used for temperature preferences in each room. Like when I visit my brother I’m still able to turn on a ceiling fan in the room I’m in and then turn it off when I walk into another one and not bother anyone else in the house.
The great thing about it is they are an easy switch out if you decide later to add any to the home.

I unfortunately didn't grow up with air conditioning. We sweat it out on the 2nd floor. U can bet that I have AC now! 😬

(Lady Rusted) Jessa you have made wonderful choices! I am changing from stainless steel appliances to white in my large custom kitchen. They are built in and I am tired of metal. Our kitchens are the heart ❤️ of our homes, metal is like being in a restaurant kitchen. Cold, impersonal, lifeless and always needs wiping down constantly. Your little family is so full of life and joy, white suits you. Trends come and go…white is classic, it looks clean (Where food is prepared this is important) and along with baked smells…it is HOME! Ceiling fans are fancy dust catchers, more work. If you don’t use them, don’t install them. Beautiful home. 🕊✌️🌐🙏

We have one ceiling fan in the living room and use portable fans and window air conditioners in the rooms that get really hot. Our house is a hundred years old!

Ceiling fans are personal preference. Where I live summer temps get up to 112-114 degrees. Therefore ceiling fans are essential. However where you live, you may be comfortable without them. The lighting you are installing is nice. Just personal preference. If people desire to have ceiling fans, it is an easy, minimal cost to fix. The house looks great! Love the stainless steel appliances. Can’t wait to see end result.

I love a ceiling fan in the main bedroom, living room and guest room. I would love one in my office now too where I ride my peloton bike. I just think you can turn the AC a little more up when you have a ceiling fan on. I think your living room light is to small for your big room, but that’s my taste. Love the black door and great idea of the mailbox in black and house numbers above. You need to put some big green plants on your front door and both sides.

We have ceiling fans in every bedroom, our kitchen, living room and family room. I like them because if I get hot or if the kitchen gets steamy cooking, I can flip a fan on and improve the situation fast. But if you don’t like them, it’s your house. If your kids start complaining that they’re hot at night, a ceiling fan is a fast fix for that, and you can buy them at Walmart for 50 bucks. It’s looking beautiful. You’ll love all the recessed lights

If you have AC I don't think a ceiling fan is a must, also they are easy enough to install should you ever change your mind. Accent lighting is definitely more aesthetically pleasing.

Usually there has to be a different box in the ceiling for the fans as they are heavier than traditional ceiling lights. So may require extra work to do later.

Ceiling fan(s) are good for air circulation. Especially in the summer. Or when your kitchen gets too hot or to air out odors/cleaning/mopping etc. At least in the living room since your house is an open space.

Everything looks great Jess! I wouldn't worry about the ceiling fans! Especially if you had them at the other house and didn't use them. If you change your minds, seems like they'd be easy to install! And yay! You went with the black door! Good choice!
And I can't wait to see what else you have in mind for the different rooms! Love the light fixture in Ivy's room! Already waiting for the next update! Love to you Ben and the kiddos ❤️ 💙 💕

Idk if it's a expectation to have a ceiling fan, but it's nice to have the option to just turn a fan on?
House is really coming together, really beautiful!
