  • The Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster (known as the Typhoon - Infinite ingame) is one of the most versatile, flexible and state-of-the-art models in the world right now. With launches, lifthills, beyond vertical drops and shuttle modes, it can do just about anything. For this episode of Planet Coaster College, I decided to focus on how to build a small launched Infinity coaster like Junker or Karacho - but with some elements also found on other Infinity Coasters, Eurofighters and older generation Gerstlauer launched coasters. But of course - feel free to mix it up with lifthills and launches all in the same layout.
    Thought I'd forget to put these links in the description? Not today!

    About Planet Coaster College: PCC is a series of video guides in which I cover many aspects of making realistic and creative parks in Planet Coaster. One of my goals with the series is to make a video explaining each of the coaster types avaliable and show you how to build them, but there will also be some videos about elements of theme parks and the game in general, such as buildings and scenery. Overall, the series is directed toward already seasoned players of the games, though I do sprinkle tips that may be useful for beginners too.

    A few notes about this video:
    I found that 0.7 is the best for a 4 car infinity coaster.
    You can make a custom vertical lift! Use the LSM hold and set the delay to 0, and then build it up using that. Make sure you put a chain lift at the end to catch the train!
    The 4 car max requirement from Gerstlauer is only for Vertical Lift coasters. Launch coasters can have as much as the park wants.

    • @gregbalth
      @gregbalth 5 лет назад +4

      Yeah. More than four cars probably would put too much force on the chain on vertical lifts. I wonder If a magnetic vertical lift could handle more but I don't see that coming any time soon.

    I found out recently that the Infinity Coasters actually have lapbars as standard, but depending on the park's needs/requirements/local laws they have an over the shoulder restraint option.

    • @yasu3d
      @yasu3d 4 года назад +4

      Fun fact : there's also two kinds of lapbar models! Version one is Karacho's train with the pipes holding up the seat and version two is literally every other infinity lapbar in existence :D

    I did not know Mystery Mine was an Infinity coaster! I thought it was pretty unique, but I didn't know it was one of only a few in the world. I absolutely love that coaster; it feels so smooth in all of its turns and flips. Its vertical lift hills build the tension so well, its drops rapid and intense, and that final inversion before you plummet down to the station brakes is absolutely terrifying. I love all of Dollywood's coasters, but Thunderhead and Mystery Mine are by far my favorites. You need to come back to Dollywood soon and ride the Lightning Rod; I have been to the park 3 times and never got to, whether it be due to weather or some other issues... :(

    Just got on Hangtime on Sunday. After riding it, I am *very* excited to see this coaster, with the hangtime drop in the park. That coaster is amazingly smooth, and as someone who usually makes himself sick after 3 inversions, I was able to handle the 6 or 7 from hangtime with no issues.

    The one rule I would have for an Infinity coaster is to make it relatively expansive. Like Silvarret said, mid size parks are best. Smaller parks would probably just get the cheaper Eurofighter model with 2 inversions.

    Regarding the Trains: Gerstlauer writes on their website that you can get an Infinity Coaster with 2-8 rows (8-32 passengers). Right now, the longest is 5 rows on Gold Rush, with most of them having 4 (The Smiler, HangTime…), 2 (Karacho, Junker…) or 3 rows (Fury and Mystic). So I guess the first 2 rows are connected to be a "base train", with the chain dog, ARB etc. and then they can just keep adding more rows.
    Super flexible and well thought out system.

    Great PCC as always! That DLC is very much fun! The block sectionning on the beyond vertical drop is flawed tho, and I really wish Frontier would change the coloring of the track (some track ties being the same color as supports currently).
    Infinity always have the front two rows connected, but SLC and older Vekoma/Arrow sit-downs have their zero-car at the rear end for instance.
    I think The Smiler having horse collars is more a request from the park (England wanting OTSR on inverting rides) rather than a question of Gen 1 and Gen 2 - tho they certainly were modifications between the first and the later models.
    The Friction multiplier isn't really a cheat as long as you use it reasonnably. I mean, real coasters go throught a variety of tests where they change wheels and bearings to adjust speed so it's quite the equivalent of that.
    Quite ironically, Gerstlauer are known for their roundish loops instead of using clothoids. They even got the potato loop on Junker and Monster which got extended hangtime.
    24:38 "auto-correct" - I guess that's a mistake due to the auto-complete function of your phone!

    The main reason I got this Dlc is so that I have the infinity coaster and gondola (and as far as I know the gondola work fine) and it looks like they based the infinity coaster design off of the smiler but they still chose to add lap bars (which don't bother me that much) and a vertical lift that can only end with either two beyond vertical drop so that's smashing, and you can't use the alternate lift (which doesn't have a catwalk) because it only goes to a maximum of 60 degrees even with track limits turned off.
    It looks like I completely hate this dlc but I don't it's just that they based the two coaster off of iconic rides and missed a well know feature, like the smilers vertical lift and time travellers launch section.

    One element I wish you would have talked about was hangtime. My only Infinity experience was Monster at Adventureland, Iowa, but *DAMN* if hanging upside-down wasn't that ride's signature feature. Every element was taken at a super slooooow speed, the highlight of which was probably the final corkscrew, but the ovular loop was certainly fantastic. I don't know if any of the 4-car installations deliver as much hangtime as the 2-car model I rode, but it's definitely the highlight of the ride type, for me. Does Karacho have decent hangtime? Junker sure looks like it would.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +2

      I've seen all the POVs and while Gerstlauers do like hangtime, Monster is really insane! Never saw a coaster crawl through elements like that. But good point, it's definitely something I missed - Gerstlauers tend to have a good amount of hangtime (I mean, their most recent installment is literally called that! How did I miss that)

    Would you rather see parks install more coasters like this or save up for a few more years (perhaps at the expense of hardly installing any new flat rides either) and go for a more expensive design with longer trains, higher hills and longer ride times? I know magnetic propulsion systems probably aren't cheap haha, but I mean ... when is the next Millenium Force coming to a theme park, you know? When's the next X2 or flying coaster? Do you see these Infinite coasters as a result of cost cutting and space saving or the next step in innovation for coasters? Both? Best we're gonna get in today's times? The guests-per-hour must suffer compared to the rides of old with longer trains, not to mention the complexity of propulsion systems. Surely the downtime is about the same compared to some of the older coasters.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +1

      I'd love to see more Infinity coasters to be honest. Kärnan is an Infinity and it's one of the best coasters in Europe, and the things that happen inside the tower (I don't want to spoil it here) are unique to the Infinity model. And to me, they prove that you don't need tall drops and high speeds to to deliver a good ride. I see these coasters as a great innovation precisely because they are more affordable to mid-size parks - because innovation isn't just about inventing something new, it's just as much about making it viable and affordable.

    • @Cirrus5005
      @Cirrus5005 5 лет назад

      Yep, I think you've convinced me. Innovation is often tied to newness and overlooks the practicality aspect, so good point there. I'll have to check out where Kärnan is.
      Thanks for the reply Silvarret. I occasionally drop in on your channel to see what insightful information you have to offer about ... well, just anything really. This is a very disappointing addition to the game. People like me want to recreate rides such as Karnan and The Smiler with this model, but you can't do a vertical lift hill without a beyond 90° drop, thus making it impossible. In this game, it may as well be a Eurofighter with higher capacity and lap bars, when in fact the Infinity Coaster is much more than this

      Use the Linear Synchronised Motor and choose an appropriate speed then use it as a vertical lift

      You can use the normal chain and go up 90° with it 🤔

    Why would changeing the friction be unrealistic? The friction is in acurate to start with and in real life the friction of a coaster can me improved with changeing the wheels, something that was nessecary for De Vliegende Hollander as it didn’t make the track with the wheels it had at first.

    So there is no shuttle looping way like Gold rush? Or the fact all vertical lifts are presets? Isn’t this coaster to have infinite options? Like reverse launches and shuttle launch with transfer tracks and spikes and whatnot??

    Not to be rude but this type of rollercoaster is called a eurofighter not an infinity coaster. Both types of coasters are made by the company gerslauer or something like that the difference is infinity coAsters have longer trains and the coaster it self is bigger

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад

      This difference is something I address in the video! But this is an infinity coaster, and there are 2-row infinity coasters out there, e.g. Junker.
