      Good local 2 player games are hard to find on PC, as you said there are loads of Indy party games, but not much to really devote a lot of time to. I have found a few good ones, might make a full video on them, but if you haven't already, check out Trine 1, 2 and 4 (3 is bad), X-Morph: Defense and PixelJunk Monsters for Tower defence, Beyond two souls and God's Trigger. The Console version of Diablo 3 is a perfect local co-op game, it sucks they didn't let you have local co-op on PC. And of course the last two Rayman games, are always fun.

      @@shadowergoat I think your best bet is to go with emulated games. Pretty much all Nintendo consoles can be emulated (even Switch if you have good enough hardware). The only triple A game I can think of that has good split screen couch co op is Gears of War 4.

    Great work, fellow htpc gamer. Agreed on Playnite. Really love the UI, and it's seamless integration. My setup is very similar to yours, with the exception of a 1080ti, as I've been unfortunate in obtaining a new gpu so far. I also have a 5.1 channel home audio linked in as well as philips hue play lights mounted to the back of the TV, that sync colors from the display. Anyway, thanks for posting the video, great to see others out there who see the benefit of couch gaming on PC.

    • @BuzStringer

      Ah! I forgot to mention the sound setup! Sound can be a bit tricky from a PC because the GPUs wont do any audio converting so if your sound system doesn’t support DTS you won’t get any sound for DTS and the same for Dolby. I have the Sonos Playbar and Surrounds which only supports Dolby, DTS is silence. So I am using optical out from the motherboard with modded audio drivers which force/convert the audio to Dolby Digital. That took a few days to work that out. Hopefully you’ll have some luck with your GPU soon!

    • @3JABO
      @3JABO 3 года назад

      @@BuzStringer oh yeah, I actually did that same method for a while with optical from mobo, but my new build is mini itx and mobo doesn't have optical. I ended up running HDMI out to the tv from GPU, then a 2nd HDMI out to a/v receiver and it functions like a 2nd display allowing all the audio features that weren't available over optical. Really hoping to upgrade to a newer a/v receiver at some point that supports VRR so I can do away with the extra cables ha

      Hey Geo, i though you might like this one. There is emulation support in PlayNite but if you are adding 100s of ROMs it can get a bit messy. Bigbox has more features for emulation. But my favourite layout is EmulationStation i just love the UI. You can also add any application to PlayNite, so you can launch EmulationStation from playnite for example. Completely shut down is only possible if you have set in BIOS to turn on after receiving power. You would need a wireless socket for that to turn on and off
      But you can also use sleep mode as that will only use one or two watts more so no big deal. In that case bluetooth devices like keyboards and some gamepads can turn on the PC, or remotes, or wake on lan

  • @TheMerchant96
    @TheMerchant96 3 года назад +3

    Wow, your setup is so similar to mine! I even have the USB hub behind the couch with USB cables. Some things that are different:
    I use a piece of software called Aster Multiseat to run multiple Windows users simultaneously. This allows me to run my PC as a PC (for general PC use, gaming and productivity) which I interact with using my keyboard, mouse and monitor. Then it is also connected to my TV via a long HDMI cable. Aster is such a useful piece of software but there are so few videos about it.
    Instead of 3 remotes, I have 2. An Xbox 360 controller for games (well, 2 controllers for local multiplayer) and then the Pepper Jobs W10 Gyro Windows remote. It has IR learning, so I can turn my TV on and off with it (I also use it to control the fan in my living room). It also has a gyro mouse, buttons for various windows functions and a full keyboard on the back. I've tried other remotes in the past, but this one has all the functions I need. The buttons it doesn't have, I just programmed with autohotkey.
    I also use Kodi and have it auto start on the TV screen with Windows, and I can launch Playnite from it (although I'm using advanced launcher to do that, which crashes sometimes so I'm keen to try your method). I don't have a set top box, so I've set all my streaming services to launch in a browser from Kodi. This is unfortunately where I'm stuck and haven't found a solution. I can navigate Netflix etc using the gyro mouse, which is serviceable but not really the best experience. The apps on a set top box have a much better couch-friendly interface. I've managed to get the TV version of RUclips working, but that also has limitations (no 60fps video, can't read or post comments etc) but it's the one I use most because of the interface.
    Anyway, I really like the setup you have and I wish more people would have something like this. These days everyone just settles for a set top box, but I like having the full power of my PC available to me.

    • @BuzStringer
      @BuzStringer  3 года назад

      Aster Multiseat looks interesting thanks for that I will probably take the free trial for a spin. I used to use Advanced Launcher but I think it broke with an upgrade to Kodi. The system.exec function in Kodi is much more reliable as it’s a direct call to the OS so it doesn’t rely on external code or plugins to work. I agree with all the VOD services being bad for couch PCs. It is possible to link the apps from the windows store, (you have to make a shortcut and link to that) The windows store apps for Netflix and some other VOD services have nice interfaces. But some of big ones are missing (Disney+ plus for example) and the WWE Network was removed as well. I did toy with the idea of running an android emulator for all of the video apps, but I didn’t get very far with it, but it might something to look into. Thanks for sharing your setup

    • @BuzStringer
      @BuzStringer  3 года назад

      Thanks, i like the making the couch gaming videos aswell. When i made the new build i didn't get around to settting up my emulation stuff again, but thanks for reminding me, I'll probably make setting up emulation into a video. I do have my PS3 games emulated and in PlayNite they run on RPCS3, which has come a long way over the past few years, can even use the GPU now. When I had my 1080 it pretty much maxed it out running demanding PS3 games. I like to keep some of the old PS3 and PSN exclusives, like Tokyo Jungle, Pain, Infamous. Games that older than the PS3 era i kept separate and used Emulation Station. Because I have thousands of ROMs for the older systems and filtering them out when i want to play a modern game can be a bit annoying in PlayNite. The only exception was the Dreamcast version of Crazy Taxi. Although if you mainly play retro games over modern it'll be fine. but I love the interface for emulation station, big box is probably slightly better, but emulation station is free and I have no complaints. How about you?

    • @Xsessive182
      @Xsessive182 3 года назад

      @@BuzStringer i also upgraded to a 3070. So for all emulation needs im good. Im mainly using my Nvidia shield to connect to my computer via steam link app. Even thought I do have big box installed on my main computer I currently use steam ROM manager as I like it better because I can change the configurations for the controllers right from steam rather than having to go through each emulator individually. I currently have over 2 terabytes of ROMs in my computer and just like the ability of having them there along with all the new games I get from clients like steam Gog and epic store
      Also this eliminates the need of having to create scripts and such for turning on the computer with the remote control since the Nvidia shield handles that.
      I also run kodi from The shield itself

    🙂 Hello, broh your making it way too complicated for yourself, you have a table right in front of you, pickup a wireless mechanical keyboard and a wireless gaming keyboard, forget all those menus and programs and scripts, juse use the PC as if your at a table or at a workstation with a mouse and keyboard, and if your into Couch Coop then pickup Four wireless controllers. Also pickup a compact standing table that has wheels. Roll the standing table up to the monitor bring along ur mouse and keyboard and stand while u use ur PC for video games and doing some work such as email and shopping. You need the standing table because its not healthy for your body to be on the couch all the time, its good for ur back to do some standing, plus the TV screen is usually too far from any couch to make it feasable for everything. With the standing table up to the monitor now u can pretty much do everything and anything as if you are at work. You can also pick up a stool height chair to go along with the standing table. Alot of work places have transitions to standing tables now, that way u have the option to stand or sit and go back and forth throughout the day. Its going to do ur body alot of good. Hope that can help you. Also I didnt see that setup a nice sound system to go along with that setup. You need a dedicated subwoofer and you need 4 speakers, you put two by the TV Screen and the other two you put near the sofa. Thats going to make a world of difference for videos and movies and video games.
