Thanks a lot for the awesome review - but let's be honest:
Didn't we all knew that the internet prefers cats over dogs? :D
Any plans on making the Roccat Suora with cherry mx reds? It looks sick but i cant stand brown switches.
On the issue of the falling mouse when the board is pitching :
-electromagnetic mousepad
-magnet stickers for the mouse
-some software that detects movement (ie : electromagnetic field perturbation) and reverses the polarity of the mousepad
Would it be possible ?
KITTEH
I looove your Suora keyboard
Is there any chance that you could make the Ryos MK (Standard one, without stupid lights) with other switches than black? Would be great if there were brown or blue ones!
*uses a corsair mouse when reviewing a roccat product*
Ha
gotta get dat double sponsor dough
Martin Snoeij i think linus one said that the m45 is the only mouse hw can use that doesnt hurt his hand
he uses the one mouse that doesnt hurt his hand
M 65.
or u could just use a plank of wood for a "custom"version
plus it's 100% organic, biological, ecological, vegan, religious and does not emit dangerous radiation nor it's carcinogen.
Yash Pradhan I've seen some pretty cool user made set ups. what Linus has for us here is for people with out even budget skills
Yash Pradhan ikr 😂
Hospitals do it best, although really expensively. Just get a retractable arm that holds the mouse and keyboard, or a small table on wheels that rolls to you.
Agreed. This is the type of stuff that I would never spend money on. I'd just take a piece of wood and slap a usb hub on it, combined with my €1,99 5m USB cable.
When I do couch gaming I use a revolutionary coffee table
KaneWolf for real I mean why waste money? You could even build something for cheaper.
exactly what I was thinking.
i used to just use an ironing board :D
***** aye, had to get the creases out :D
I'm imagining how that looks and all I can see is either someone hunched over in their seat or sitting on the floor.
I laughed way to hard at him throwing the keyboard and mouse in the beginning XD
Vince Linkaling ikr😂
He would make a brilliant infomercial actor

no
Thanks for the pun Dad
Dang that was good, I should've thought of that.
That pun is sofa kingdumb ;)
well your pun is sofa kingwetodded
6:05 my life is done, i got everything i needed
DagicCross lol
The day that I can throw expensive equipment around without any monetary worry, will be the day that I'm officially happy.
Day With Jason Touché bro... Touché
Day With Jason I'm pretty sure the keyboard he threw is around $11 on Amazon.
Oh, well in that case, I'm gonna buy 3.
Well, then don't get married and have kids.
Didn't plan on it :)
A lady friend - on the couch - while you're gaming.... Keep dreaming Linus... ;)
He's married dumbass.
+Zahid Shabir So that instantly make his wife interested in games?
Edit: I totally missed the meaning of the original comment...
We're not talking hypotheticals, she games.
Zahid Shabir - I know fuck knuckle, I was just making a joke. Maybe get yourself a humour implant...
a humour implant? haha made my day with this
Ummm, Civilization 6 has UI Scaling for higher resolutions. This video was probably made before the game was released, but saying it for those who don't know.
+MoronSoldier haha yes it was
But the game in the video is Civ 5.
Skullthrax -- And? You are saying that as if I don't know it was Civ 5 in the video, I'm making a different point. :D
Your point has nothing to do with what was shown in the video? Talking about different games and stuff and he said if it does have UI scaling then it's fine so he already answered that ;)
cmon civ 6 isnt a high speed game you dont need a special couchboard
another great right handed only product
+Jazzygamer you're a minority - build a bridge and get the fuck over it.
jk unlucky dude
You're like the people who would complain about this video not having any women in it.
As a left-hander, I agree!
Dang it, my dirty mind didn't get your post at first. But then it didn't get your name, either. Gah..
Edit: This video doesn't have any women, so it sucks.
Us left handed people need some products too.
Matej Novak This is discrimination.
If I really want to play a game on a TV, I'll use a controller, the KB/M setup on the couch is just too clunky for me. Keyboard and mouse belongs at the desk, not the couch
Trevor Murphy what if you want to play Civ or Total War without lugging your PC back and forth between your desk/couch?
Steam Controller,
BrotherO4 I actually didn't think of that at first lol. yes I agree I'd use steam controller
Civ played from the couch? How are you going to read the menus and stuff. Just get a controller, put that GTA on and be swag
Lec sjfsadk since the screen is 40 plus inches...you simple read. sometimes they even have a option to increase UI scale. that is how i do it with the steam controller on Endless legends
Wait what? You're not suppose to rest your wrists when typing? Says who?
Ikr
Everyone. Doctors. Its common knowledge.
DrSmokeTrees Not really. I don't know anyone who doesn't rest their wrists while typing.
Ergonomics experts. It puts extra pressure on your wrists, increasing the likelihood of damage to them. You're supposed to rest your palms, not your wrists on what are commonly referred to as "wrist rests".
Here's a diagram I guess
= is hand
k is keyboard
w is wrist
o is heel
a is arm

Love the 'improving wife appeal' factor. So crucial when taking over the living room. I've opted for the Steam Controller, but might have to give this a go. Great review Linus
Wait a second.
Tax accountant simulator?
BRILLIANT!
YOU GET A NUMBER PAD! YOU GET A NUMBER PAD! *EVERYONE GETS A NUMBER PAD!!!!*
That’s exactly what I thought when I heard that.
Dear god, it's almost like the developers of this product *TESTED IT!?*
oh hell yes we did - countless hours - and it was soooo much fun :D
ROCCAT
I'm glad you're one of the (unfortunately) very few companies that actually test their concept before shipping it. If I ever need some PC peripherals, I'll be sure to check your inventory first!
I am happy to hear that!
No because FUCK mutants thats why
I actually use the num pad for mmo's. If you set 1,2,3 to 4,5,6 and vice versa it puts all of your abilities in an easy to "find" comfortable location.
Would be great for an update for couch gaming.
I've just got myself a C1 + soundbar, and am waiting for an NVidia shield to arrive.
I'd love to start gaming mouse-and-keyboard on my couch and would love to know if there are any options out there other than the obvious and previously covered by yourselves (or whether they're still the best option). Interested especially in affordable solutions too. I've been considering the K63 lapboard and keyboard, but have seen comments it feels very cheap?
I was up in the air about which to buy, almost pulled the trigger on the lapdog earlier this week. Then watched the LTT and HC reviews on it. Ended up with the Sova MK (surprised i found one local, amazon has it on B/O for a couple of months) and I can honestly say I am very pleased. I don't normally use red/brown switches, everything I use has cherry MX greens, that is really the only thing I don't care for about this keyboard. Maybe future versions can have different switch options.
If you buy this, you won't be disappointed.
I miss seeing more reviews like how this one was structured. Big thumbs up!
3:25 shout out to your jaw linus. looks great in this shot
Peter Parker Haha, wtf?
lol true tho
I'd much rather see a DIY setup video for a homemade lap gaming solution then these $130+ ($200 in this case) rip offs. Keyboards by themselves are ridiculously expensive as it is, I would not spend around/over a hundred dollars on my desktop keyboard, and then however much on my full-time desktop mouse, then turn around and spend yet another Benjamin or two just so I could play the same games with different peripherals a couple feet away. If you add all that together, a full desktop set up and a couch one, that's like $400 dollars. That's a brand new console, like the NX or PS4 (for Bloodborne obvi) or a much beefier graphics card/processor that you don't yet have. I mean my entire system when I first bought it was like $150 more than the aforementioned dual set ups.
Please take the time and effort to create a homemade SovaDogTurret that we can recreate at home. Even just a template and list of materials would be better than no video at all, I mean this is literally a really big video idea for free!
That is a really good idea for a video.
Lord Muhehe thank you I appreciate it. I imagine you can make a much better and personalized lap desk then any company can for under $50. Cheap and light lumber, can be recycled, some decent fabric/felt, bag of cotton balls/old towels/old shirts/any stuffing for comfort, glue and staples maybe finishing nails, pieces of old trim, could use cheap tubing of any kind for rest rests and go around the board to make it more comfy.
There is literally so many ideas for it. Left handed design, built in phone holder/charger, wireless design, mini desk from an old TV dinner tray style holder that you refurbish so it swings over your couch arm and over your lap.
Fumferknuckle so I did exactly that :) I'll make a RUclips if you want, but probably not until the weekend! I have a bottom cushion filled with cotton balls and a built-in drawer for a cheap wireless logitech K&M. What all of the featured setups Linus just showed lacks is the ability to type comfortably. Mine is raised slightly and can tilt toward my body to keep my wrists straight. Also, the keyboard can slide over to be exactly in the middle--Linus made it look easy to type on this rig, but that would really suck for more than a tweet or quick forum post.
Jim Stiernberg that sounds awesome! If you want, you should totally post it! I'd love to create something similar, but didn't even think of a storage system. I agree, it looks uncomfortable to type and just too bulky imo. All hail the DIY masters!
The Reaper95 why don't you chill man, I don't produce or own shitty keyboards. I personally do not think it is worth it. I know the price of the corsair keyboards, thus why I do not own one. It is the first generation of a product that could have been released in a better revised state imo, but if you think it's good value then I'm happy for you. However, there is an obvious demand for much cheaper couch gaming hardware that doesn't lack in quality in anyway, and I believe that can be easily done for much less than what any couch gaming manufacturer has on the market today. I own a Havit Magic Eagle something keyboard, an extremely sturdy and tactile keyboard not using cherry switches but still being stupid clicky and for less than $65. The thing is built like a tank, super heavy, big metal construction, loud snap in place feet, and a braided cable. That's what good value is. It's the same way with smartphones. The only phones that impress us (at least me) are the ones touting budget friendly but still boasting the top specs and build quality. The Axon 7, OnePlus 3, Huawei Mate 8, and many others come to mind in this category. It's these phones that are pushing the hardware limit while keeping it as low cost as possible that are cool to me. Of course the most fancy, dancy little phone is cool and all, but $700-800 doesn't justify the little extra functionality it has, or the missing features that cheaper phones already have. I think most people would agree that cheaper well built products meant for the budget oriented are much more exciting and likely to be purchased then the high and mighty hardware. Everyone wants a 1080, or 1080ti for that matter, but it's the cards like the 1060, 480, 470 even that gets a lot of gamers and even enthusiasts excited. If we can push full 1080/60fps with a $150 today, imagine the next few years. Thanks for the comment.
I knew Roccat would wipe the floor with it's competitor's here. Easily the most underrated keyboards on the market. A sturdy, proper wrist rest makes all the difference in the world.
So glad the Sova seems to have turned out as great as the hype. Hope I get to try one out myself!
Bought my first roccat product, the Kone XTD mouse, haven't ever had an issue. The customizable LEDs just make it so much better.
0:15 What a masterful *fuck this* keyboard toss.
wireless is really needed for couch keyboard / mouse setup AND it needs a LOT of range.
you don't understand how expensive and limiting that would be.
please enlighten us how much this amazing technological feat would cost?
Speaking of LIMITING - that is cords and wireless range - thanks for your input.
rustigsmed its limiting because you wouldn't be able to choose your own peripherals since you cant just make an usb device wireless, that would induce massive amounts of lag and unreliability. you basically want to take an analog input, convert it to a digital signal, then convert it to an analog output again, then to a digital signal again. if this was done within one packet it can be pretty okay but still expensive, but if you're going to do this conversion outside of the packet then oh boyyy are you in for some trouble.
this is what i do right now.
i have used two wireless keyboard and mouse combos and in one set the keyboard had less range than the mouse in the set, and in the other it was the inverse.
so I can either use two USB bluetooth receivers and operate the good mouse and the good keyboard independently or someone can invent something that works a bit better.
As couch gamers - input lag is a fact of life. i play shooters with a PS3 controller wirelessly to my PC and i use a 65" 4k tv - compound up that input lag.
obviously this is not a couch users' concern. it is technically possible. As i stated above, we need range and wireless. even if there is a halfway "station/booster" to make the keyboard and mouse more free. if someone invents it then it will sell, but reviewers need to consider RANGE!!! Blunty did one (wireless review) recently and i mentioned it then. It makes a huge difference.
yeah and a piece of cardboard for a mouse pad.
"This looks great! I think I'll get one!"
Clicks Amazon link and looks at price.
"This looks terrible! Goodbye!"
SAME LOL
what was the price at the time ? today it’s quite cheap at 50€
@@DeadAimize Just got the MK for 50€. Easy to find for that price and in great conditions since most people who bought them dont really use them.
In Germany Roccat is the most popular company for gaming. I also use all there products and they are awesome
Danke!
habe schon viel Geld für eure Produkte ausgegeben xD
ROCCAT Dank ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) pardon my German ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
ROCCAT hab extra für euer Kone 5.1 ne Soundkarte gekauft.
Roccat seem like a great manufacturer, I have a kone aimo mouse from them and it's easily the best I've ever used for comfort and performance.
If I ever have a PC entertainment center in my living room I will for sure 100% get this product.
Everything about this product to me was done right. Can't wait to own one of these things. Good job Roccat!
I've been using a sova for a month now, it's easily the best of the bunch. The lapdog is hideous. I'd highly recommend the Sova and I've now made my TV my main monitor thanks to its comfort.
Thanks a lot. We really appreciate the kind words!
ROCCAT IMPOSTER!!!!
Imposter... hm yeah... That's why we are verified ^^ - Have you checked our channel? Does it REALLY look like we are not the official one?
i have a better idea. get an xbox controller. Maybe not the best for competitive but who does that on a tv.
If you want to game like a console noob. You can't play a FPS with a controller moron.
Tell that to all of the halo and COD players on console moron
''You can't play a FPS with a controller moron.'' well you actually CAN play FPS games with a controller. Think first of all befor you type such nonsense.
Like who needs 20+ buttons to play a game?
Kicstar V any fallout game must be played with a keyboard in my opinion
I think a piece of plywood with a mouse pad stapled on it and a glued on keyboard would work just the same
Does plywood come with a mousepad, a mechanical keyboard, and a mouse?
sajon this didnt come with the mouse
I think getting a usb keypad so you can do your accounting from the couch makes for a fair compromise. You can even get them with mechanical keys and there is plenty of space on the mouse pad.
Got this for cheap from Ebay recently and it's great! Shame that it's apparently not being produced anymore and kinda hard to come by, it's an excellent solution for Couch gaming.
I've been waiting for the Sova to come out for years.
And I see that they raised the price by $50 and ditched the wireless version. I'm not wireless latency sensitive and would prefer the freedom.
@@Mike504 Damn.. just got one and would have loved an wireless version since I change my position quite often. But since the cable is quite long, it isnt too annoying to work with.
The number pad is needed for arma 3
And blender! (Kind of a game. Kinda).
Funny how they called it the "Sova" or rather "an Owl" in Slovak language :D
NuSpirit It's Swedish for Sofa.
Or you could just cut a piece of quarter inch cabinet plywood to size, router the edges finish and buff the top etc, and just put a keyboard and mouse on it. Like I did 10 years ago lol. Though you do have to sit pretty close to a TV to get full use out of it like that
Been using this since August, brilliant device! Finally allows me to be a PC gamer, bought a GTX 1080 rig with this hooked up to my 4K TV, overwatch has been amazing!
Thanks for the kind words ricky!
You're welcome, any news on when the phone cradle will become variable yet?
No eta yet, sorry
Who uses a Tv to game on pc i also have 4k tv they are nice but i use moniter
$318.08 wow fuck no!!! need to find a better solution under $100
Get aluminium mouse mat and a lap tray
Plank of wood to sit my mouse and keyboard on it. If you drill a hole in the middle, you can use your erection to keep it in place
aircraft grade aluminium is much, much, MUCH lighter than a plank of wood. I got a rectangle just for my mouse and can fit it in the laptop sleeve and game in bed.
Or just get a Steam or Xbone controller.
*****
Xbox Elite controller is awesome, bit expensive to buy for full price though (I bought mine from Ebay for like $65).
2:38 GET REKT!
repeat this lot of times.. and you would see
I dont hear it
lol :v
ApexHR I
You have to rewind at re-
what do u hear
come on, I know 50% of the people who will buy it will use it on a desk because it's a all in one mouse + keyboard + mousepad + wrist rest. Who couldn't resist?
People who have actual computer tables?
You know, where the keyboard is underneath the desk and mouse sits on top of the desk?
Oh wow I am actually an exception today. I answer yes to both the questions at 2:32. I removed my wrist rests from my keyboards about a year ago to save space and I've liked it a lot better for typing and gaming. That's partially due to the fact that I use the arm rests on my chair though so I can hold my arms in position for as long as I like.
I have my pc and both monitors (24in) on a coffee table in front of me, and I sit just a few feet away on my sofa, with keyboard on knee and mouse to my side. Works perfectly :) Although I will be switching to a regular desk and office chair setup soon...
video was uploaded 15 seconds agoooooo
PUBLISHED NOT UPLOADED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+DanielRichards644 dude calm down
DanielRichards644 i hope your playing around cause if your seriously entitled to that comment i dont know what to think
Ronald Johnson grammar pls
Ronald Johnson
entitled to a comment? No dude just pointing out there is a difference between published and uploaded, thats how there are comments from several minutes before the video went public.
Not wireless?
Games like Star Citizen will NEED the 10key for mapping, if you're going to use the keyboard to game.
Of course, you could remap the tenkeys, but the game's fast running out of bind options of other keys.
So while there aren't tons of games out there that basically need the tenkey, the ones that do, you'll have issue.
wireless? gaming? nah you are confused ;-)
1. Wireless is a pointless downgrade.
2. Just use a normal mouse and keyboard on a coach table.
Wired doesn't fit all use cases. Pets, Children and people walking around, and depending on the set up, I see the wires getting in the way. Not all gamers a twitch FPS gamers, so the minute delay you may have on a wireless signal would still suite plenty of people. At least have the option to go wireless. It'll open up the door to more use-cases and likely more people would go for it.
of course he is confused Tapper. He supports SC
1 not everyone want to be a professional in E-Sports, some pepole play just for a thing that maybe you forgot, have fun....
2 i play with a projector over 5m away from the screen, a cable that long probably will add lag anyway....
3 consoles have wireless controlers and i don't see anyone complaining about this...
I'm gonna probably just buy a piece of plastic and put some pads on it
Someone may have already said this but one way they or the user could reduce the mouse from sliding into you lap and also aid in supporting your wrist would be to add a wrist rest below the keyboard and mouse area.
I think the mouse should have a retractable wire solution that way it doesn't slide off the mouse pad. Like there should be a button on the keyboard that you have to press and it just retracts the mouse like a retractable dog leash for example. If this was implemented the right way I think that Roccat could have a very nice product here.
This is a bit off topic but, is it possible to take a laptop CPU and put it in a desktop PC?
MadHax'er No.
If you have a degree in electronic engineering, maybe.
yes if you push it hard enough in the socket it will fit
You can put it in there but it won't do much. It'll even do nothing for good measure.
No it is integrated into the motherboard of the laptop for one and secondly no desktop socket would support it
Without a number pad i cant cant play mount and blade. Account sim isn't the only game that needs a number pad so im out bro
Oh haha that's what happens when you rephrase your sentence and don't read it back:p
intact now I read it back there are many mistakes...
Yeah, flying on GTA V is a pain on a TKL keyboard. I need to hook up a controller when I get into a plane. The thing is, GTA V is one of the games that you probably would play on the couch.
Just get a coach table, and you can use it like a desk as normal.
Rahul Katre yeah that's a good point I forgot about GTA!!!
5:35 Can't see tiny text on your hi-res screen? Here's a thought. Turn the res down. Not as pretty but more functional.
I use an Anker wireless keyboard and wireless mouse combo. No need for mouse pad, laser works on pretty much all surfaces. It's not fancy, but the range is good, battery life great, keyboard small and light...probably not for hardcore fps multiplayer gaming, but for general use its simple, easy, and functional. Wouldn't replace it with a huge wired lap board thing, even if its smaller and better designed than the competitors huge wired lapboards.
If I'm gaming on the couch I would be using a controller but this product is so awesome that if I start using it I'll even be working and using it from the couch and using it all the time.
What rational reason is there to not rest your wrist while typing? Please someone explain it to me.
Kazu Carpel Tunnel. Basically you are blocking blood flow from your wrist and eventually it will do a number on the way your wrist feels and it hurts a lot. Thats why you aren't supposed to do it but as Linus stated, hardly anyone games with their wrists up.
Never heard of this before and it never happened to me before, even though I'm resting my wrists at the edge of a table.
Kazu I said eventually it will do a number on you. If you are at your computer 90% of your days typing with your wrists like that for a month, you could get Carple Tunnel. (fun fact: There are starting to be studies into a particular type in the thumbs due to texting) As for hearing about it, bragging injuries you get being at a computer isn't very common.
Just No. No. No. The seating position is just bad on the couch. You really need a table and a chair.
It's like trying to play an electronic piano in your lap. It sucks! (I know, I tried it).
Yeah, I used to use a homemade version, ended up with RSI. Two years later, still have rsi despite giving up gaming altogether.
don't make your preferences a rule.... i'll keep playing in my couch
Was about to order one
Then I remembered I'm a lefty
I have an idea flip the keycaps around and reprogram the keys
Never even knew about these types of keyboards. Cool to see these exist.
I always use my desktop for gaming and I'm always at a desk. But I could see myself getting this for when I connect my laptop to my 4K living room tv for some light browsing and movies.
I'm gonna SOVA now. (Means sleep in Swedish...)
Means owl in Czech.
+Lord Muhehe owl in Serbian too
Vojo Balabann Probably in a lot of Slavic languages.
+Lord Muhehe Yeah. :)
Sova reminds the Finnish word for sofa (sohva) which is ironic
why waste all that manufacturing effort on the electronics for a lap keyboard? Just freaking make a couch table that can extend to your lap. problem solved.
Also, the word ''sova'' is a for of the word ''sohva'', which means ''couch'' in finnish.
Cool, init?
Ziggex You know it's sova because of the word sofa meaning couch -_-
That too, but almost all of Roccat's products are named after finnish words. Like the Kova mouse (Kova = Hard, tough) and Kone (machine) etc. There's even a story (kind of) about this on their website.
oh I see it's a Finnish company ok you were right sorry for calling you out for no reason.
It's k :D But it's not actually a Finnish company. It's a German company with funky naming :D
Ziggex yeah but sofa means couch in german so i think they named it after the german word
I took a shelf from my book cabinet and used that to put my keyboard/mouse pad on top of it and fits perfectly.and then keyboard and mouse on top of that of course.it sits on my lap nice.all worked out great
Love my sova. Had it for a month or so and it does make a difference. Only things I'd change would be having a padded wrist rest and cloth mouse pad. Hopefully they will bring these out but I doubt it...

Or if you gaming on the couch then just buy a controller...
SquidCookies peasant!
dnichl don't play lol on the couch.
Fuck no. Controllers fucking suck. idiot
Steam Controller.
Depends what you're using it for.
FPS games, fuck that. Racing games/Sandbox games, controller is king.
Lets be real there isn't gonna be any "lady" friend.
I have a little piece of plywood i varnished that i put in my lap and it works great as a portable table.
The only games I play on the couch are controller based games. The Steam link really is an awesome little device. For K+M games use I need an ergonomic setup.
The right desk height, my Maxnomic chair. the Razer Orbweaver and the wireless Logitech G602 are my ideal setup for marathon gaming session without any back- or arm and wrist pain.
lady friend? arent you married? Oooooooooo im telling
Why the hell is it not wireless?!
pSyk Latency and added cost.
Teco01ejg It's expensive as fuck and Logitech's wireless mice are actully faster than other wired ones.
pSyk Yes, but this is not Logitech who we are talking about, but rather a very small company with very limited resources.
Teco01ejg They do have wireless products though.
Also they could have just made two versions.
Either way I'm never going to buy a gaming device for the couch that needs a cable.
pSyk It's the economy of scale. They've probably gone with the easiest and most affordable solution for a new product. If they see that it has success, they probably will invest as to make it wireless. I'm pretty sure that if you disassemble one of these, they've already have the fittings for a wireless module.
grab a steam controller
***** that's what I said. I don't use any other controller any more
***** you can't play games like city's skylines on an Xbox controller
LakesInStillness The Steam controller is the best bang for the buck controller I've ever had, have you seriously tried it before saying this? The hate propagated by reviewers and first time users is commonly misplaced, people review the SC expecting an improved Xbox/dualshock, and then dismiss and hate it because it is nothing of the sort. Using it for more than a week will surely make you like it.
Thou shalt not useth thy controller

I remap (ex)capslock to middle click as a rule on any laptop I own, any modifier+caps is left as caps
@0:16 OMG I literally just busted out laughing. I never do that, to the point my dog thought something was wrong & came to check on me
I got one of these, and put it on a laptop table. It works great as a substitute keyboard tray. I bought an external number pad, and there's plenty of room for both the number pad and mouse
6:05 The New King of Coma Gaming?
Good video, I might get one of these as I like playing civilization games on my projector. Worked better when I had my last sofa that had the perfect gaming armrest. Btw Linus, you won't have a problem with the UI if you get a bigger screen! Maybe 270x150 cm would suffice for you as well.
i sincerely hope there's anything comparable to the Roccat Sova coming up eventually. i spilled liquid on mine a few days ago and had it stop working entirely. later i found out that the last time any offer on it was available online (except maybe eBay) was 2021. so i'm stuck here using a crappy unergonomic mouse and keyboard combination on the surface of my couch instead of a proper lapboard
As a tip, when playing Civ on a smaller monitor or further away, use Dx 9/10 as it makes the UI bigger.
My friend was waiting to get a new desk so he put his keyboard and mouse on a shelf and it worked just as well.
Looks awesome. I play on a recliner. And my mouse slides off the sides of the arms anyways, so the mouse falling off isn't a negative. It's what comes with gaming like this. Def gonna buy jt thanks for the vid
Dear LTT,
I think this would be a great element to bring to the next Scrapyard wars or shop video, having to create some kind of couch gaming solution for mouse/keyboard.
Why are there no current products like this. Honestly, hole in the market for someone more ambitious than I.
such a majestic keyboard flip
I bought this and it is nice. I play on a 50in 4k tv and now I can sit back a little way from the screen. the keys feel nice. I got it for 122 on Amazon with prime. not bad at all
The way he smack away the kb in the beginning was so relatable.
I love couch gaming on my PC. I mainly play RPG's on the couch. I wear glasses for the reading but it is all good. I sit at my desk for games like Civilization.
2:30 "Do YOU honestly type like THIS!? [...] Do you GAME like that? Get real."
Piano player and programmer here. Yes. Yes I do. There's honestly no room on the desk in front of my keyboard _to_ lay my wrists, and I intentionally set it up like that _years_ ago, both to prevent myself from developing RSI and because it looks nice IMO. I also made an effort to emulate what I do when playing piano, except when typing. But yes, I just did a session of Swarmlake and my wrists never touched the desk or bent up. What I actually found is that I have two typing styles. One, which I use when I have my chair turned away from the computer cause I'm just about to get up but still have to type that last paragraph of text, is to literally hover my hands like you were just incredulously demonstrating, because it's the only possible typing position. I'm doing that right now, by the way. brb. (I'm back.) The other style is when I'm right in front of the computer; I have a tendency to rest my arms on my knees, which are raised from my legs resting on a comfortable foot stool I have under my desk, or from sitting cross-legged ("indian style") in my desk chair, in which case my elbows just kind of nest themselves in my quads. But I digress. The point is: Yes. Yes I do honestly type (and game) like this. I am now, I was a year ago, and I will be a year from now. I'm looking at my wrists right now and they are arched down (rather than up) at a comfortable angle.
Maybe it's different for someone who learned how to touch type, but I hunt and peck at a smooth pace of 80 WPM, I know where every single key on the keyboard is (from programming for 10+ years), and I throw my fingers into those keys _hard_ (piano habit). So when I need to "hover", I can do it without a problem. It's basically just like playing a piano, except a little more delicate and all the notes sound the same.
The mouse, though, that's a different story. Turns out the mouse is actually worse for your wrists than a keyboard with bent-up wrists. Most computer users who go on to develop RSI tend to get it in the right wrist--the one they were using the mouse with. I don't have an elegant solution for that, but for when I HAVE to use the mouse (I try to avoid it as much as possible), I'm trying to get into the habit of holding it sideways (like a handshake). I've found that this doesn't strain my wrist _nearly_ as much, because with my hand in handshake position, I can angle it however I want. Though I tend to forget and attack the mouse from above.
So, in summary, I would probably _hate_ this keyboard.
I am a (classical) piano virtuoso and have been since the age of 16/17 (am 27) and I can assure that nothing this guy writes has anything to do with playing the piano - actually he has a bad/inefficient form that most likely will forever limit him if he actually means it, since one should try to emulate RESTING wrists, so that the force generated by the forearm to move your fingers can "travel withouth having to climb a mountain". This results in forcefully (= uncontrollably) hitting the keys - a symptom he actually described himself. And the secret to good piano playing is not your wrist (it is a LIMITING factor if you do it worng) it's the ELBOW apart from the fact typing isn't even CLOSE to what it feels like to play the piano making it a bad argument in the first place.
And getting into the very basics of martial arts, there is a difference between tense conrol and loose control. When you stand up normally, with your arms to the side, guess what: Your hands don't touch the ground :OOOOO and you can hold that position basically forever but then when you raise your arm to a 90° angle to your chest, you cannot hold that position for longer than a few minutes, even though your hands ALSO DON'T TOUCH THE GROUND. Mindblown - right? So the whole premiss of this guys' text is disproven in addition to the cringy self-revealing piano talk.
Thanks Linus, your review clinched my decision!
"Every keyboard should require a modifier to turn on the Caps-lock"
TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN!
4:04 A Rollermouse insert would be dope.
I use this and it is awesome. For the mouse drift problem i taped a tiny piece of non slip rubber mat to the top left of the mouse area so i can kind of store it.
I had a Roccat mousepad. It lasted less than a month before it began bending from normal use and I returned it and got my money back. In short, I don't trust their build quality so if you keep using it I'd be interested in hearing how it works out in the long run.
Please make more build guide videos!
I love the tactile W bump!
I game with a floor chair and a lowered desk. This is perfect for my needs
Hey!, here's an idea. Do a video on DIY Couch Gaming! it would be super interesting to watch
The most sleek way would be a steam controller, less than ideal but from what I heard once you get used to it and spend some time tinkering it can be pretty amazing.
To solve the mouse thing you could just glue some felt to the mouse- that might help it not slide around.
