  • I have been a big fan of Festool dust collectors in my shop and on the job site for at least 20 years. My original one is still in daily use! I was super excited to put the new 36v Festool CTC MIDI cordless dust collector to the test and it did not disappoint, all the features I love from my corded vacs but with the added luxury of cordless power!
    Let me know if you have any questions about this or any of the other Festool dust collectors, they all have a place based on your needs!
    Thanks for watching!

    I just noticed that the cordless MIDI doesn't have the 120 volts plug outlet socket on it's front like the corded version does. I guess the bluetooth remote control works just as well? What a great and extremely helpful review. Thanks

    I know festool can't help themselves with making everything cordless now but to me the only vac that should be cordless is the sys. why because short runtime and large vacuum bags simply dont mix. If a dust collector is going to be cordless it's going to have a limited time which means small quick jobs or awkward locations where you don't want to be dragging a heavier vac around or looking for a plug. I put my bt remote button on the nozzle end not on the hose I believe that's where it was intended otherwise it's always gonna slip.

    Great review! I'm on the fence about this model because I have a "solar generator"/mobile power unit that I paid $500 for which gives me about 720 watts vs the 187 watts (2x 5.2 AH Festool batteries). I suppose the downside of that combination is the weight (maybe 10 lbs?) and it being an extra thing to carry. The smaller mobile vac also interests me because it's so small and unlike the corded version, it has variable suction and takes up so little space. Hmm... decisions

    Great review, appreciate your opinion...do you notice a discrepancy with the CFM as the CTC is around 109 and the CT Midi is somewhere around 130? Also with all your vac experience, I have one parting question. I eventually want to get a Planex drywall sander to de-turd the ceilings in my house, can you use one of the smaller vacs with this or is it a simple no-go and you'd have to upgrade to the CT36 autoclean? Thanks again.

      Hey so sorry for the delay, I missed this comment and question. The difference in the two CFM's are not something I can notice for sure. On the planex you can use any of the vacs but you are going to have to clean the hepa filter after even on a small job so use of the autoclean is highly recommended without a doubt!

      You can also add a cyclone to help capture some of the debris before it makes it to the vac😉

    Is there an ac adapter like on the cordless sanders? The vac is initially going to used when I sand my house that was painted with lead paint 55 years so I’m taking precautions by buying a good dust extractor & then using it in my shop later. Gotta love that lead paint!! It’s toxic but, man, does it last!!

      There is not an AC adapter, you have to decide if you want to go corded or battery, they both have advantages but comes down to how you work and how long you want to run if. Also if your already on the battery platform it could influence your decision as well.

      @@fultonfinewoodworks I am on the Battery platform but the sander batteries are exclusively for the sanders. Bummer. I’ll go for the corded. 2 houses with lead paint!! & one has the lead paint under aluminum siding that also painted in lead, that paint has been there for 80 years. Afterwards, if it survives it will be in my shop. Thanks!

    The cordless midi does not last long on fully charged batteries when using on and off with bluetooth. Out of curiosity I wanted to test the run time with continuous use, so I charged the batteries and let the extractor run on high until it died, yielding a 14:39 run time. So my guess would be the batteries last longer when not being turned on and off in short increments. I think a second set nearby is the only way to not have interrupted use.

      I agree a second set is key. I really like the new Festool Duo charger it charges two batteries in a little over 15 min.

      Yes I did get the duo charger. I will just take my track saw batteries and use those as my 2nd pair since I don't use that as much.

    Does the CTC MIDI work with the Cyclone?

    Can this work with planex 2

    • @fultonfinewoodworks
      @fultonfinewoodworks  4 месяца назад

      It would work but the filter would be clogged quickly - the 36 AC has the cleaning feature made for the planex
