- Because of corrosion it can be difficult to remove the simplest parts. This three point drop valve is challenging. Not only did the knob meld to the rusty shaft, but the shaft also resists rotation.
Most of the knobs and handles just pull off, if you are King Kong.
I Like your videos and can-do attitude. Before I learned better and put a BXpanded skid plate on my BX, a branch rammed up and smashed my HST fan and boot last year. I had a dealer do the repair but I found later that Paul Short has a nice video on the procedure. If you haven't seen him on youtube, he's pretty funny and does lots of videos and mods. Anyway, it's a job that's a bit of a pain, but clearly doable and I would have tackled it myself had I known how at the time since I had to have the dealer take mine back and do it over again because they just sawed the fan in half the first time and tried to gob it together with silicone. Pretty pathetic and they forgot the boot as well the first time - should say the last time - I never went back again after they finally did it right.
Thank you. Depending on which tractor you have, removing and replacing the fan can be a bear. The BX25D that Paul Short did, was a bit easier than on my BX25. If I had to do it again, I would probably try pulling the engine forward, and hope to slip that fan in. I guess you saw the video of my fan guard? I didn't install a shield, yet. Sounds like your Dealer mechanic sucked. Silicone eh? omg
@@ThisOldMan-ya472 Yeah, then they tried to argue with me that it was a "normal" procedure to just cut the HST fan in half and force it around the shaft, so I said let's call Kubota and see what they say that was when they just said they'd do it over since they "hadn't even seen that the boot was missing" even though I specifically had them write it up. They're total duds for sure. I do have to say I love my BXPanded skid plate - it's really strong and protects the whole underside. Been up in the woods lots of times since and you can clearly tell it's stopping stuff from ramming up there.
@@dalepremo3695 Ha ha ha 'normal procedure'..... for that mechanic... lol I am not sure a person could install a split fan.... hmmmm might be a genius idea.
I just took mine off a couple of weeks ago. I figured out that I could stick a piece of conduit in from the back under the fuel tank and use that to tap against the shoulder of the knob. It took me awhile to figure that out, but it came off easy with a light tap from the right direction.
I didn't realize one had a direct path from the back. Good to know. thx
Thanks a lot man. This really helps out.
You are welcome Danel240. Helping others is the reason I continue to post my boring videos. :-)
Did you even ran into road salt with it? This is the most destructive stuff you can have on a tractor. With the remainder of the tractor in good shape, I'll assume you did not. Is this drive shaft coming directly from the engine to the HS unit? There is very few videos on RUclips about deep mechanic on Kubotas. Thanks!
Hi Joe. No road salt, however we live on Vancouver Island, Canada and it is very humid on the West Coast. The tractor is a 2010 with about 2000 hours on it, and does not have a nice shop to park it in.
If you view my other videos, everything is explained, including the driveshaft or as with Danel240, I was able to help quickly.
Yes, the driveshaft is a frustratingly direct link from engine to the HST drive unit, because it is extremely difficult to access or remove.
How did you remove the knobs on the levers?
Pull like hell. I think they are polyurethane, so they are flexible but sticky.
Hi how did you remove the height adjustment knob.
I went under the tractor and removed the nut, and the knob and rod lifted out. I did not attempt to remove the knob from the shaft.
@@ThisOldMan-ya472 Hi thanks for that, much appreciated.
@@peter12266 You are welcome. There might be another way, but this worked for me, and I didn't break anything. LOL.
