I just want you to know that I used this method on my front lawn, which was pretty much taken over by this weed. Moved into this house 4 years ago and I’m just now giving the outside of my house the much needed attention it needs. I treated it about a month and a half ago, and with consistent mowing, watering and upkeep, this weed has withered and died and my lawn has turned a beautiful dark green! Long way to go still but conquering this invasive weed is a huge accomplishment. God bless you!!

VERY helpful! I just did my sprayings over the past 2 days. Now hoping and expecting great results after feeling demoralized by this lawn plague for over 20 years!
Notes to those who may be having trouble applying the instructions in the video:
First, my spray bottle kept getting its nozzle plugged with the diluted Borax mix. Using hot water from my tap took care of that issue. Second, based on the 5 oz per gallon ratio given in the video, I calculated 5 teaspoons per 20 ounces of water for my spray bottle (I first filled to the 20 oz mark, then mixed in the 5 tsp of Borax powder).

Lawn Care Nut: Love your informative and easy to understand videos!
Question: When is it safe to put fertilizer on the lawn?
Prior, during or after Borax is working?
Last year Team Turf charged me $80 to kill this ivy.
    No results whatsoever!
    I was ripped off!
I hope your method works for me.

I've been pulling them one by one, section by section of my yard for almost 2 months (few hours every other day/weekend) and I have a huge front yard. My back problem seems to be gone now. There is still a small section left to tackle. I always reseed the spot when I'm done. A lot of time spent but definitely worth it! I just have to keep my lawn thick and dense to keep neighbor's uncared lawn from creeping in or should I just grab a jug of gasoline and pour all over their lawn covered by creeping charlies? lol

Awesome, I followed this and all weeds are now dried out. I have not watered my lawn yet, and it’s been about 8 days now.
What do you recommend for next steps? I had so many weeds that there are many larger areas where they “dried out”. Will the existing grass eventually recover this area?
    Thanks!

I have this nastiness in my lawn. I have NO idea where it came from. I have a couple of problems with your game plan. First, I loive in The South and we tend to get thunderstorms nearly every afternoon. so, we can't do a treatment that relies on drying out. Second, I have little or no grass in my yard. I'm all about flowers and shrubs and vegetables. but, that has given the Creeping Charlie the opportunity to take over everywhere the sun shines and anything other than grass has been in the past. it really is to the point now that half of my front yard is completely covered in this and it is attacking my butterfly bushes (which are large and mature and woody but theya re still sugffering) this stuff is suffocating everything in my yard and it HAS to go! any suggestions?

@@frankandrusiewicz3296 I SUSPECT that the concentrated salt (borax) has a dehydrating effect until it is fully dried. Its residue will then be rehydrated with application of a water-based herbicide and become effective again then. And of course, the herbicide has to be absorbed in order to be effective so the dehydrated state of the plants facilitates that.

I don't know how well this will work long term. The reason creeping Charlie is so hard to kill is its rooting system. The rhizomes are like runners under the ground. So even tho you're killing the stuff on top, the roots are harder to kill. But hey.. I have creeping charlie also so it's worth a try..

Is this also known as ground ivy? What I have has a leave that looks the same. It grows in a net like configuration. I am so glad I found your videos. I am a big user of sodium borate anyways. love borax too, but if you have moss on your shingles, it might mean they're starting to fail, and probably letting water through. Copper will inhibit moss growth, we just bidded out our roof replacement and now manufacturers incorporate copper particles into the shingles to ward off moss.

Hello, how can I get rid of the creeping charlie if I have no choice but to irrigate? I got brand new sod two months ago and it needs water, but in some areas creeping charlie has taken over. I tried Killex (two treatments) and no effect. I did mix in a little bit of dish soap since I heard that will help get through the waxy leaves surface, but will instead try your borax solution next instead. But I am doing this in the fall so it will be wet with lots of rain. Or should I wait until spring? Thank you for your videos btw - they give me hope, since re-sodding is not an option (just done) and Killex by itself didnt work!

Can dicamba harm surrounding trees via root uptake? I see you've treated near 2 young trees in your parkway. Did you see any negative effects? What are your recommendations for using 3-way (2,4-D + quinclorac + dicamba) treatments near trees in the lawn?

    • @witness033
      @witness033 8 лет назад +1

If you have newly planted trees, then avoid the drip line with the herbicide. Established trees will tolerate the presence of dicamba in the root zone quite well provided that you do not make excessive repeat applications. Even newly planted trees will have an acceptable tolerance within reason.

Phungurific are you guys in one of the parts of Canada that is chem free? There are certain areas up your way where you are not permitted to use any weed control at all.

The Lawn Care Nut Chem Free in Ontario. I believe it's illegal in all of Canada but not 100%.

Ortho makes a "weed b gone" specifically for this, also controls wild violet. Search "Ortho Weed B Gon Chickweed, Clover, Oxalis Killer for Lawns". 16oz is less than 10 bucks

John Ames I attached it to my hose and sprayed directly on the weeds (they were wet already) this was 2 weeks ago and I see little to no results

spray with soap first, it can take a couple of weeks for it to work

Stop being such a pussy. I bet you would spray roundup and other cancer herbicides all day long, but you worry about a naturally occurring element? Borax is safe, plain and simple.

@@VladTheImpalerTepesIII Be careful with borax, too much and the soil won't grow anything for a long time.

@@brianineson3980 I already know that. But that's no reason to stop getting things done. Use common sense and stop worrying.
