    I have a MASSIVE cat who was abused horrifically. As an INFJ/empath, he thankfully was drawn to me quickly. I adopted him and began the healing process, which was actually hurtful: this cat put his trust in me, even after other people had severely hurt him mentally, physically and emotionally. Thankfully I had the best of intentions and he began to heal incredibly fast. Now, every night, he lays with his massive head in my lap and purrs, knowing that he's safe and will never be abused again. I regularly perform reiki on him and every night he has to clean me. Its so funny: he'll clean himself a while then pull my hand and arm to him and clean me for a while, going back and forth between the two. His name is Gabriel and he truly is an angel! 🐱❤

      My kitty Luna is like your kitty. I helped a friend adopt out their kittens, Luna being one of those kittens. Found a great home for all the kittens, but the family that took Luna called after a few months saying she was almost feral. I said I would take her back, as they worried she would bite or scratch. I got her back to my place and poor Luna was not feral but scared out of her mind. She was anxious and scared. She is now literally my cat, it took 2 months for her to come out of her shell. She only allows me to pet her, she doesn't trust anyone else. But she snuggles with me every night and demands loves. Luna will meow loudly at me if I stop petting her and will flip her tail at me to get my attention. I have to scratch her tummy, she loves her tummy rubbed. She knows when I'm having a rough night, I have ptsd and often get nightmares. Its like she knows this and wants to help me get rest by just being there next to me.

    Just watching this cat gives me peace. My kitty demands attention then repays me with bunny kicks. She sits on every window sill and pushes off anything in her way. Runs up to my bedroom window and spys on me when I leave for work on a morning. When I get back shes napping. When I go to bed she has a crazy ten minutes where she's out of control and sometimes chaces her tail at like three in the morning. Shes my best friend.

She used to meow or talk to me, she would follow me around sometimes or come to visit me in the house. She would purr when stroked and patted and would greet every morning when I came downstairs for breakfast or would follow me to bed at bedtime and would even say goodnight. She was so smart! When my boy (I’d never call him just a cat, he was my boy) of 20 years passed, I cried much more than when my mother passed. I don’t mean that as a rebuke against my mom. I loved my mom so much. But Taz was (and will always be) my best friend. The best friend I have ever had or ever will. I was inconsolable. My wife, daughter and the vet tech, almost had to carry me back out to my car. Taz and I had a connection that I can not put into words. Only those who have experienced it can attest to it. These morons who say that cats have no personality, or feelings, haven’t been owned by one. Taz would literally follow me around the house everywhere I went. He would sleep on my bed, in his own little cat bed, in between my wife and I. He would put his paw on my arm when he was asleep. I didn’t dare move it. Ugh! Here I go crying again! With all due respect to all of those cat lovers who have such wonderful friends in their lives. There will never be another Taz. The girls at the vet would come around the front counter and hug him every time I went in there. They would tell me he was their very favorite. I have a story of exactly when we became so connected when he was was young, but it is a long story and my comment is long enough. Thank you to those who had the patience to read my rambling. Much appreciated. Love you all and I Wish you all had the chance to meet him. Peace and love to all. And I hope you are lucky enough to find such a special friend if you haven’t already. ❤️

      I understand, friend. The few cats I have raised and taken care of (not owned) have been sweethearts. I disagreed with a few things on this video from my experiences, but overall it gets the message across that they are wonderful if you treat them well. They were my "brothers" or "sisters". To call them my child or pet would put them below me, and they are not. They are companions. They are friends. They are siblings.
      I personally think that to understand these "animals" is to realize they are the same as we are.

I've also had four Guide Dogs, but now, I just have my Angel. She's 19, and I wrote a bit about her here in the comments if you'd care to read about her. @@heatherstub I’d be happy to tell that story and then honored to read yours.
      When Taz was 4, I got transferred to a different state. We ended up having to rent a home for a year, while we looked for one to buy. The house was on the old side, in not too good of a Neighborhood, but it did the job. It had the windows with panels, when if you cranked it, the panels would open. Taz was never and outdoor cat, except for a couple of times when he got out out. But he always came back within a few hours, safe and sound. This particular time, I opened the window a bit so he could look out and smell the fresh air. I didn’t think it was near enough to allow him out, but surprise, I went back into the room and he had gotten out. I was worried sick. The yards were small and there were a lot of dogs in the area. Several hours later, I thought I heard something. So I ask my wife and daughter to lower the TV and sure enough, it’s him crying. Only from a distance. I’m outside looking for him and following his cries. I got to the back of our yard and the yard behind me had a small shed, about the height of the 4 foot metal fence. He was on top of that. Only problem being, there was a big, thick Bush preventing him from jumping back into our yard. So I had to push my way into the Bush and get to the fence line. As soon as he saw me, he lept about 5 or 6 feet right into my arms. I felt so much trust coming from him. He had gotten into a battle and lost a portion of the corner of his ear. So he was bleeding. I took care of the ear and I held him. For some reason, I just started crying. This big 6’3. 220lb guy crying. I kept holding him because I knew what he had been through had to have been traumatic and I wanted to make him feel as safe as possible. I kept replaying, over and over in my head, the love and trust he must have felt in me to have just lept so far into my arms. Since that day, our already close relationship got to be inseparable. At the age of 8, he developed diabetes. So there were many trips to the vet throughout the years and for the last 12 years of his life, I gave him 2 insulin shots per day. I never felt inconvenienced. That was like “our time”, if that makes any sense.
      But, since that day when he got out, that’s the day we became inseparable. He would just sit on my lap, with his head on my arm and we would just stare at each other. Such a connection that we knew what each other was thinking. I’m convinced of that. When he got Too old to jump on the couch or the bed, I bought him pet stairs. Every time I went on the couch or on the bed, no more than 5 seconds later, he’d be climbing the stairs. God I miss him more and more every day. He was my everything. I’d like to think that we made each other’s life complete.

    About cats kneading things. Kittens when feeding on the mother cats teat , knead around the teat to stimulate milk flow . Maybe as adult cats they knead something like a cushion when they are getting sleepy as an instinctive , hard wired behaviour that gives comfort.

My mum would say "no more", behind my mums back dad would say theirs a box and blanket in the shed..hush hush he would say..!!!, I am now in my fifties,and have lots of animals in my life,my great Love's have been my rescued cat's, poppy..headges..peaches..harry..oliver..and now a new kitten of 7months old.Chester..I have loved all my animals in the many years of being lucky to have them in our lives..I am very proud to say that my daughter has become an amazing animal lover to, she also brings home helpless animals who need caring and love...I keep saying to her" no more ",but she is just like her grandad, she knows their is a warm blanket, a nice cozy box in the summer house..🐱🐈X.

    • @ValJanela
      @ValJanela 6 лет назад +24

      @ Sokia Ulvehjerte. I think you mean kittens without mother cats? Of course they don't knead on a bottle! All kittens knead their mothers to stimulate the milk flow, this is completely natural behaviour. Explanations for why cats knead vary, but it is without doubt an instinctive trait. Newborn kittens knead their mother’s belly as they snuggle close to nurse, and the motion is thought to stimulate the flow of milk through her nipples. One rather outdated theory proclaims that cats that knead were separated from or weaned from their mother too early, and therefore continue the kittenish behavior into adulthood, yet nearly all adult cats knead, regardless of how or when they weaned. It’s more likely that the instinctive behavior is simply comforting to cats. (Although some cats do “suckle” the corner of a pillow or blanket while they are kneading.)

See bits mom killed all of her 1st litter except bit but she tried to smother him twice and troubles mom took her other kittens and just left him behind. So we brouggt them inside and fed them formula...had to rub their privates to help use the restroom..etc. Anyway they both knead even though they never suckled or were too young to remember it. So i think it is natural instinct kindve like using the litter box.

    Thank you precious Gayle for the tutorial! My kitty Boots does all of these. I know that a kitty rubs its head on you (I call them head rubs) that they are making you with their scent, telling other cats that he/she belongs to me, but I also believe that kitty is saying I love you too. As a side note, I think my kitty is the jealous type because everytime I come back from having been out, he will not let me touch him until he has thoroughly sniffed both of my hands to determine if I have petted another kitty while I was gone. My kitty and I have conversations with each other through slow eye blinks. And lastly, a cat's purr is not only a sign of being happy, helping to heal themselves, but scientific and medical research has shown that a cat's purr is in the hertz range that it helps a broken bone, muscle injury and something else that we have occurred. I have chronic pain syndrome from a trashed low back and when I am having a bad pain day, Boots will lay down close to me and just purr and purr, and his purring helps me feel better. Thank you again for such an informative video and I send you hugs and many chin scratches to such a precious kitty as you. Love you.

      If the cat mixes her scent with yours in any possible way (head bumps or scratching your precious carpets...) it's indeed a sign of love. Same thing goes for the slow eye blink or the belly thing. That they make themselves vulnerable in front of you by closing their eyes or presenting vulnerable parts of their body to you by rolling over is similar to when we say: I entrust my live to this friend.

    Our three-year-plus tomcat greets me every morning with a full-body stretch and a friendly trill, and I love the big boy for that. His much younger queen companion (about 1 year old) is so very, very observant and smart, almost frighteningly so. If she wants into a room, she will mimic the human gesture... stands up on hindpaws and swipes at the doorknob with forepaws -- usually with her cute, personal trill in lieu of an actual miaow. Love them both to bits!

    When my wife and I would eat dinner, I will have a sugar free Pepsi with my dinner every night. When I open it and put the cap on the table, I would inevitably see my girl’s paw slowly reaching up and sliding the cap over off the table. Then she would grab it with her mouth and trot away. It’s so cute. But I’d hate to,see where she has hidden them all. 😐

    The kneeding behaviour is actually a remnants from their childhood.
    When they where babies they kneeded their mom's nipples to make it easier for them to be fed.
    Adult cats in fact see us as their caretakers. We give them food, attention, warmth and love. And they simply returns the favor in their way

    • @emeryltekutsu4357
      @emeryltekutsu4357 6 лет назад +9

      I've seen ours not just knead but suckle at things, so I do believe it's just a behavior that reminds them of good, comforting times.
      As they're getting older they don't do it as much, but sometimes when I pet one of them she'll still rush off to do this with another cat. Eventually the suckling probably drops off altogether and just becomes kneading.
      I remember I was holding one when she was around 4 months and she left little slobber spots all over me!

      Eisah Vakohler That’s so true. One pair of kittens we had weren’t fully weaned, and one morning I woke up to feel a strange tugging at my finger. I lifted my duvet to find the ginger girl had crawled under there and was sucking on it! A few days later, her brother started suckling at my hair. They did this for about a year, but stopped once they were adults. Sadly we lost both of them last year (aged 16), and our two new babies didn’t suckle on us. 😔 But they’re lovely, so it’s okay.

    • @Kessra
      @Kessra 4 года назад +2

      No! This is a common misconception, unfortunately. Rubbing against you is like hugging a close friend. It is their way of bonding with others. They not only do this to humans but also to their kind if they are in good mood (joyfully excited/happy) and/or meeting "friends" or family members they haven't seen for some time (even though the time is limited to a couple of hours i.e.). My parents cats do this every time my parents prepare their meal. So this is a classical sign that they are joyfully excited to receive food soon(ish)
      Cats mark their territory by spraying urine at certain prominent positions. Neutered cats usually don't have such a territorial instinct and therefore don't mark their territory, though they might defend what they believe belongs to them, whether this is territorial (i.e. the garden) or subject related (i.e. a human).

      @@Kessra In my 70s so I've had cats most of my life. Ginger cats are a little off center never know what is coming. They are a hoot. Male cats I had fixed would still spray in the backyard and not in my home. I adopted a muted calico last October not a kitten a she is the best natured one I've had. Would rather be around her than most people.

      @@Kessra agree 100%! a lot of misconceptions with the whole "I own you". they're sharing their scent using their glands if you are part of their pride. they will also do this to each other when family/trusted friend, and like you said, is a part of their bonding!

      Sweet video and I've been blessed to experience all it's referring to with the kitties around me. I have one male who will start purring if I say his name toward him, then he comes ambling over to share with me. I take care of a group of about 17 or so abandoned and feral m.h. park felines and they all show these traits at one time or another. Very satisfying for both them and myself.

    Great Video and everything is correct, just two things to add: the kneading by kittens also helps their mother to produce milk, purring is an exercise to also strengthen the flexible bone structure of a cat.
