hi folks, hope you enjoyed todays video on a fascinating system, Epsilon Eridani - possibly the first system we will visit after our own? what are your thoughts?
Can I point a fun fact about the constellation Eridane ? Both stars Achernar and Acamar actually have the same meaning in their names, Akhir Nahr ( the Last of the River ), the reason for that, Achernar is not visible from the Greek isles (latitudes > 33° North) hence the choice of Acamar as the river's end, so to them that's it. Now however, that distinction is held by the star Achernar. In Arab Countries Achernar has a lot of names, my Favorite is al-mohalif which means the thing that makes you swear, the story behind that is because it has a similar trajectory and brightness in the sky compared to Suhil star ( Canopus ) so people back in the day used to argue about which one of them see and swear to god to defend their opinion.
thanks amigo, pleased you enjoyed the video - as such a young star, seems to me Epsilon Eridani is going to play a big, big role in our long term and distant future
