So funny how they don’t say the actual names of the instruments...if anyone is worried about copyrights, those companies need to actually do something with their properties.
There is a guy on youtube that built the thing into a really nice, 1960's style casing and added a 61-key keyboard, an amp and proper speakers. It is a massive project but he turned that little synth into a beautiful instrument.
I can't help but think of the Beastie Boys whenever I hear that sound due to all the old soul/funk albums they used to sample and the stuff they played themselves.
@ 4:05 Apparently. Blake starts to get bored with Nate's mini-key presentation and decides to check what's happening on Facebook on is iPhone. @ 4:30, he's done. it's like, "oh, so it's my turn again".
I doubt it. They just choose to be ridiculous. Maybe they have actual Rhodes pianos that they want to sell because they're more expensive, so they don't want to advertise the Yamaha as being capable of sounding like a Rhodes, even though that's exactly what it does and it really should be mentioned that it has the classic Rhodes / Wurly sounds.
Can it play lower octaves and sound like organ pedals or like a Fender Rhodes Bass Piano? I love playing my bass for fun, but at my age, the poor ergonomics of playing a bass guitar are just wreaking havoc on my hands, wrists forearms and shoulders and back. I'd like to try something different before I give up on music completely, but I'm very partial to bass and anything with a vintage vibe.
Hi skybluemarshall. The Reface-series keyboards have Octave sliders on the front panel, allowing you to play bass notes in the style of that keyboard. -_Daniel_
I'm new to synthesizers and am looking to get this one but I don't have any kind of interface or software. Is this something I could just plug into studio monitors and play analog ?
Hi, Brennan - great question! You can indeed use any of the Reface series with just some external speakers. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
Hi, Chan! Thanks for your interest. This instrument has 128 voices of polyphony. Feel free to reach out to me directly with any further questions! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
Is there a looper, too? If not. Why does not Yamaha licence a proper looper technology from Phil Tipping? Sequetron by Phil Tipping is a phenomenal looper, so contact Phil and check if you can license this original technology? All reface users who do not want to wait for Yamaha licensing or adding a powerful looper into reface, simply check Sequetron by Phil Tipping. It can force to scale, chords, held notes and much more, there is nothing like it I know. Vangelis and Tangerine Dreamers will love it.
If they made the keys Real Size....Dang this would be Perfect. Fatal flaw though, why should i play a toy When it could b e a Champ ? AMAZING Sound, just Use Real size keys for 1 version and don't charge extra : )
Hi kdgfg, while you certainly can play keys through a guitar amp (especially if you want the distortion), you'll get a much more high-fidelity sound from a dedicated keyboard amp or full-range PA speakers. In this video you're hearing the Reface Audio Outs combined with a mixer and then sent directly to the video camera Audio Ins. Thanks for watching!
It meant to be modular synth at first, but they decided later to give it a keyboard. You can plug a midi keyboard with the feeling u like the best (so you ll have a great synth + keyboard for about 600$) and you can just take you yamaha CP by itself and play it anywhere with bateries... So, this to me is not a fail !
+Roboprogs, Good point. I don't use USB MIDI by choice, but If I did, I'd definitely want it to be controllable by a USB MIDI controller. They also need proper 5 pin DIN MIDI In and Out sockets, instead of being forced to use a crappy little adapter cable that I know I'll lose or break, then have to re-buy periodically at a ridiculous Yamaha accessory price.
iConnectivity makes an awesome little unit that you can plug a USB hub into and connect up to 7 USB midi devices. I'm SUPER picky about latency and if this introduces any latency its nearly undetectable.
@@tylergates4075 This person comments the same rubbish on all of these videos. As one of the most popular and requested features within Japan, you know...our home and the base of Yamaha...it's a core staple. That won't go anywhere. The sound as Daniel noted is widely applied and appreciated. Sweeping statements born of ignorance annoy me. Especially when the reason this is here, is for good reason. Intended since conception. A lot more forethought went into the series than some of the less informed might realize.
the hidden acoustic piano is great as well
I could listen to them playing all day
I like those duo reviews, it works!
Love the playing, you guys really push the red zone eh
it sounds fantastic
Love the sound of this thing
So funny how they don’t say the actual names of the instruments...if anyone is worried about copyrights, those companies need to actually do something with their properties.
you guys are great reviewers
Had to smirk a little bit at the end of the digital delay demonstration when Blake mentions musique concrete.
Love playing mine literally every day.At some point I'd like to get a bigger controller.

Beastie boys - off the grid
This product really needs a updated version
This is probably the best Reface. If only the FM one used the same architecture as the DX7..
This would be the one I'd buy out of the four.

to be fair, it's the Toy Piano. No one likes the Toy Piano on the Reface lmao.
Great video guys. I wish they would bring out a 49 or 61 key version.
Oh that is sweet
Fantastic!! That was very helpful for me.
GM program equivalent of the sounds:
RdI, RdII, and Wr: 5
Clv: 8
Toy: 10
CP: 3
GR8 Demo, Thanks.
Are they contractually obligated not to say Rhoads and Wurlitzer?
I doubt it. They just choose to be ridiculous. You have this with many simulations of these two. I came across "Roads" or "Worli" names. So I think it's still a trademark issue.
The WR, The RD, The CLV. I wonder what they might sound like. 😂
Can it be shifted to low to use as a Fender Rhodes Bass atop the YC in Vox high side shift? The Doors style! I love that sound combo
Hi Dean. Yes, the Transpose slider allows you to get your EPs down into that range. Thanks for watching!
I wished there was a reface YCP (combined).
Sounds great, does anyone know if they do a slightly bigger version than this one?
I don't believe so, however you can use a larger keyboard with it
There's the YC61, CP73 and CP88, they're full-sized keyboards. Or you could look at the Korg SV-2
Amazing!!! 2:49

Not allowed to say Wurlitzer, Rhoades, or Clavinet?
What's the story with the tiny internal speakers? Can they hold their own without an amp at all?
My question too.
Doubtful … tiny speakers never bode well …
he looks so unhappy with himself after saying "musique concrète" haha, seems like he can barely bring himself to finish the video
😂
I'd LOVE to have one of these in a 2 space rack mount unit. but it seems rack mount synths went out with the 90s. :(
Just get Keyscape at this point. Run it on a 2nd hand Mac Mini in your rack and get way more options
What does Wr stand for? Is it..Wur-no, don’t say it...Supertramp had one, wasn’t it a wurl-C’mon, dude it’s trademarked!

I think this is the best reface of them all? Just tell me guys?
how many voices can it reach up to? Thank You!

Should have called the sounds based on their instrument names, Wurlizter, Rhodes, Clavinet.
+Isaiah Teerink I'm guessing they don't do it because of copyright issues.
im sure they don't for copyright reasons
They called them WR and RD1 & 2. Pretty close.
yeah same reason they dont call them by name in the video
updated modeling from the CP4? All the same parameters? same samples as that one?
Yeah, whatever.
Is there a looper, too? If not.

Too expensive for what it is and would prefer it without keys, but nice sound.
You can play it via external Midi, even do the settings.
COUL;D i 1/4" THIS INTO MY TASCAM 8 TRACK RECORDER??
Yep
are the keys smaller than a standard key?
Yes.
If they made the keys Real Size....Dang this would be Perfect. Fatal flaw though, why should i play a toy When it could b e a Champ ? AMAZING Sound, just Use Real size keys for 1 version and don't charge extra : )
They do - this is the travel size one
I hear a clavinet in there
Is this usb bus powered?
Battery powered with triple AAs or an outlet
*Double As (so AAs)
Need this in my life. If anyone wants to gift me one ill write you a tune 😂
I just got this little beast, but when I simultaneously press F+G+A+Bb+C, the reface adds a B note! Does anyone know how to solve this bug?
I might buy it, if I come across the same problem I'll let you know
It's a common problem, Yamaha claims they can't reproduce it, will probably never get fixed.
I'm a layman. Are keyboards played through guitar amps?

Huge fail not making this with a bigger keyboard
true, I have had the cs for about a year now and it has a very small keyboard, but it is a great tool!

It (these) need a 2nd USB plug where the module acts as a host for an external USB MIDI controller.

"Toy" setting is a waste.
why? it sounds exactly like the real one of those things, which has been used creatively on countless records. good gracious with the close-mindedness
Not at all. Its sounds amazing on mine. Can get really creative with it

It sounds great through pedals
comment is a waste
rhodes wayyyyy off
Useless toy
Toys are not useless.
You should buy one then, you must be a kid when you think that
David D oh so you must not play or write music. So no, there is no point in you owning one.
