Good for Richard for being able to withstand Ed’s frenetic mumbling and capture the gist. I couldn’t stay engaged because it revved my nervous system too much. And the interruptions were annoying. I kept waiting for Richard to speak so I could relax and listen. He knows how to pace for the listener’s benefit and is always spot on in his analysis. I’ve been wanting to watch the show and appreciated this.

Big fan of Richard Grannon as one of several experts I listen to regularly with Sam Vaknin, Melanie Tonia Evans, Gabor Mate, Pete Walker, Behaviour Panel, Ashley Storm, the divorcing dad guy and a small group of cluster B experts & NA recovery.
First, this is worth a listen as Grannon gives some super insights when he’s allowed to talk.
Second, how many times can you count the interviewer slipping in “that most NPDs are women; most coverts/vulnerable narcs are women” and emphasizing examples of women NPDs (not sure they were full NPD without analysis but ok to fly that info off in a podcast). And deeemphaszing or ignoring examples of cluster B men - it was in your face partisan or showing his trauma in naked forum. Uncomfortable.
Third, interviewer is not only misogynist ☝️but decides to say that people with autism have no empathy 😳 and then goes on about homosexuals (through his homophobic studies) in such an offensive way he’s either BPD and/ or closeted. He’s clearly highly traumatized to put it gently.
Anyway, I could go on as it was the first horrible pod I’ve listened with Grannon (to no fault of Richard’s except going on the show). Interviewer also called Martha from Baby Reindeer a “porker” - what a shitty person.
And yet there were a couple of Grannon’s insights that I hadn’t heard before and wrote down. If you can stand or skip the interviewer maybe take a look. But frankly not worth the stress. My two cents.

This was a lovely discussion. I had never heard that autistic people had high sex drives or that they can make things sexual very easily.
That had me thinking that would explain our new purity test trend about everything is sexual.

I read a British study a while ago. During the war a number of American soilders abandoned a number of English women that were pregnant. A large number of baby boys grew up to be homosexual. They though that not getting oxytocin maybe a reason. My friends oldest son is gay. My friends huband wouldn't have sex with her when she was pregnant. Her husband blamed her for the son being gay. Thats why i looked up the article. If the woman is abandoned, it would make sense that the son would stay close to home and not create his own children. I told my friend to tell her husband .

I think perhaps the elavated rates of autism is more than likely because we know more about the condition & diagnosis has increased. ( * I'm not referring to ADHD by itself)
My own brother was only diagnosed with autism in his 40's despite obvious learning disabilities & speech delay which was labelled as Afasia ( communication difficulties) There was a birth trauma / oxygen deprived & jaundice but despite my Mother insisting that there was something noticeably wrong when he got to aged 3 she was told by the Drs that there was nothing to worry about & to just get on with it. One Dr did suspect he had Aspergers but not officially so.
He attended a special school because he couldn't cope in a normal school environment. He still struggles to read & write & basic arithmetic but he does live independently now with family support.

The teacher targeting teenage boys seems like it was about her safely* accessing male attention, over which she retained power & control.
(* 'Safely' obviously not being concerned with the legal position of her actions).
I wouldn't be surprised to find that her history includes being dominated & controlled by men who were the same age or older than her (i.e. father, partner).
Therefore she targeted younger males who were quite literally under her control, as part of a teacher/pupil relationship.
They would inherently be more naiive than her in terms of romantic relationships & even life in general, and would not yet have developed fully in terms of physical strength, either.
Physically, emotionally, psychologically, sexually she remained interpersonally safer than she would otherwise have been, by having successive relationships with teenage boys - whilst retaining - & maybe even enhancing - the amount of male attention she recieved.
That doesn't stop it from being selfish & narcissistic, obviously - she was still seeking 'vertical' relationships which would only have caused harm to her victims - but this is more plausible than some weird paraphilia for it's own sake.
She was trying to keep herself safe; everybody who got hurt in the process was mere collateral damage which didn't even appear on her radar.

Not quite sure what I was listening to towards the end there but I really appreciate the open conversation and first time I have heard it acknowledged how some people corrupt something innocent by imposing sexualisation on it, sometimes aggressively redefining and really perverting something non-sexual to deviant sexual terms that would also be criminal But I don't think it is exclusive to autistic people.

Okay, I found an article about this where it looked at all these studies and did their own:
The current state of research on sexual experiences, sexual behaviors, sexual attitudes, or sexual knowledge of ASD individuals is rather mixed, with some studies finding differences from healthy controls (HCs) while others do not.
Previous studies have: (i) included female and/or male patients in residential settings with presumably more impairments and less opportunities for sexual experiences; (ii) focused on persons with intellectual impairments or other comorbid developmental disabilities, thereby leading to confounding effects; (iii) used online surveys in which only higher-functioning individuals took part; (iv) relied on reports from family members and care-givers or from the patients themselves; and (v) assessed individuals with ASD in different age ranges.
After having reviewed the literature, we aimed to investigate hypersexual behaviors as well as paraphilic fantasies and behaviors in a large sample of male and female ASD patients compared with HCs matched according to gender, age, and educational level
To get direct information from individuals with ASD and to study a preferably homogeneous sample, we only included adult individuals with ASD without intellectual impairments. The rationale to include only individuals with high-functioning autism or Asperger syndrome was to reduce the potentially confounding effect of intellectual disability and thus be able to directly study the impact of ASD on sexuality. On the basis of selfreport, all patients were diagnosed by an experienced psychiatrist or psychologist (n=90, Asperger syndrome; n = 6, atypical autism); the mean age at which patients received their ASD diagnosis was 35.7 years (standard deviation [SD]=9.1 years; range=17 to 55 years). The ASD patient group (mean score [M]=26.7; SD=4.9) had significantly higher scores than HCs (M=6.4; SD=3.3) on the German version of the Autism Spectrum Quotient Short Form (AQ-SF; P

Richard: It is interesting that the writer is getting positive feedback for "Baby Raindeer" when the person who wrote "She Said" got very little acknowledgment or coverage for the crime she endured. Is this a pattern where women are denied being heard, or are we thinking the woman brought the attacks onto themselves? Or is it that the way women "complain" cry victim and people want woman to be strong in all circumstances? Ot is it that the writer of "Baby Raindeer" showed both sides of the coin?

Ed Dutton was barely regulated for this (which is humorous, given the topic of conversation). The way he introduced his opinions and questions, and his interruptions did not feel respectful or professional, and his fidgeting and lack of attentiveness, as well as his gulping down his mystery drink, were all incredibly distracting from the topic. I hope you speak to this topic in another context, Richard. In the meantime I will be editing The Jolly Heretic out of the audio so I can listen to it through.

Ed's comments remind me of why I found university evolutionary psychology studies and courses so difficult to respect. So much of what he says here serves as a reminder of how often our already-existing prejudices inform what we study, how we study, and how we draw conclusions from the data we collect. Also: Correlation is not causation.

The sexuality conversation….problematic. Don’t get me wrong, evolutionary psychology is very useful in understanding culture, but it almost sounded like you were saying that being attracted to trans people is wrong, abnormal and that gay men who are more effeminate are like women who are totally chaotic and illogical?! It’s a little….outdated. Also homophobia is helpful because it drives men to contribute to the group?! Mmmmmmmmm I think not. Come on lads, do better. Just because something is a demonstrated phenomenon does not make it OKAY e.g. strange situation
