Oh, you nailed it. What I love the most are the rumors I heard about why it was made. After DePalma finished "Carrie", he was pissed that UA didn't give it the advertising push 20th Century Fox gave "The Omen". After "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" got the kind of advertising he wanted, and they were reliant on "Psycho" tropes, he wanted to show them, so he writes a thriller with the same basic structure of Hitchcock's classic with the end of "Carrie" added. Scariest to me though is the hilarious scene where our heroine describes a sex change operation to her rescuer. They are sitting in the restaurant at the top of the World Trade Center. Every time I look out those windows behind them, I can easily imagine a plane going by.
That's an interesting back story, I really had no idea lmao. But it's funny, because I thought Carrie did well at the box office, no ? And yes, Halloween and Friday the 13th borrow from basic Hitchcock tropes, but this one does it much better though.
@@SirSmoldham Not only that but were afraid to swim at Coney Island, take the subway because of meat eating zombies who lived below, hike in the woods around lakes, view VHS or internet videos, et al, ad nauseam.
Angie Dickinson...knong, knong, knong! Unfortunately she got cancelled to early in this movie. Went to Caswell and Massey back in the day and purchased a fine Solingen straight razor that I still shave with today. When I asked the sales lady to let me see it, she took it out of the display case but stood back aways. Looking at this review, now I know why.
Yeah, Dickinson doesn't last too long in this film... As for the saleswoman, maybe she saw this movie just before you made the purchase, hahaha ? One can never be too careful after all.
This was advertised nonstop in the late afternoon b4 it opened, & in theatres the ad was a closeup of the drawing of the cross-legged gal & the creep peering in thru the door. Once it was on HBO, kids at school couldn't watch the 1st 10 mins or so b/c of the shower scene. I'm not sure if Brian DP came up w/the elevator slashing, b/c I did see a giallo a few yrs ago w/a similar slashing. It had a '70s vibe to it. I don't remember the giallo or anything about it. Got it on DVD, perhaps from Netflix? This was yrs ago. Thanks for the fun review!

You're totally right, big p. A movie with sex and violence will make money indeed, ahaha. But that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be good, though. But Dressed to Kill really is!

That is kind of eerie, considering what happened on September 11,2001.
I remember when this film first came out. People were afraid to get into elevators alone. Some would just take the stairs instead.
Until the movie with the stairway killer came out. Must have left people who lived and worked in tall buildings in a quandary.
Just like after Hitchcock's "Psycho", people stopped taking showers for a while.

Great video! Any plans to review Phantom of the Paradise?
I was gonna make the same suggestion!
I could put that one on the recommendation list! I've never seen it.
Starring Jessica Harper as well, like in Suspiria!
This thing has atmosphere. Haven't seen it since it came out.

Oh yeah, I bet that shower scene in the beginning was censured when shown on TV lol. That's totally understandable? And you're welcome!
I watched it and it's a good recommendation. Thanks your reviewing. As usual, greetings from Dominican Republic.

One of the most quintessential Erotic Thrillers.
Yes, you could say that !
You convinced me to look this one up!
Let's goooo champ! Most definitely do.
Gotta like Michael Caine...even though he was in "Jaws The Revenge (1987)".

Agreed😊
Whaaaaat ?? How can an actor like Michael Caine get involved in what is supposed to be one of the worst movies ever made?

I remember this movie, but I didn't know it was R rated, probably because I watched a censored version on TV long time ago
Yes, that's probably why lmaoo. On TV, they sanitize some movies before releasing them.
This movie was ao controversial when it was released! Angie Dickinson reportedly did that nUde scene at the beginning. This movie is crazy 😧!

I add a little bit of everything in there.
I must disagree with this reviewer-the nudity and sex scenes in this movie are anything but inappropriate.
I'm talking in the perspective of the MPAA haha.
