Hey makeandfixathome, if we are going to buy a new trimmer/potentiometer, which one do u recommend? I see many of them on amazon like elecgear brand and seems a good stuff. Or do u have something better in mind?
I just repaired my controller thanks to your video, and it works perfectly now! Initially, I tried cleaning the potentiometer sensor, but that didn’t solve the issue. Replacing the metallic part of the potentiometer sensor made my controller as good as new. Thank you so much for your help-your video was a lifesaver!
Unless you know for sure the potentiometer sensor components are shot, I'd highly recommend trying to clean out the existing ones before purchasing new. Some simple cleaning of the ring track in the outer shell with some alcohol and a Q-tip instantly resolved my massive stick drift issues.
I’ve struggled hard with soldering in the past. I was debating buying the dual sense edge controller, and just swapping out the thumb sticks when they drift (apparently they’re built with the same materials). But it’s the price of 3 controllers (with an extra thumb stick, which you can only acquire from Sony ATM). This video has solved my problem for around $15 CDN and helped build my confidence up for future console jobs. Maybe I’ll take a stab at soldering again in the future but for now I’d just recommend this video instead. Thx!
Soldering isn't hard, if your experience is with only controllers then they're notoriously hard even for experienced professionals with top end kit the solder they use has a super high melting point...good tip is to clear away as much of the old solder as you can with solder wick and mix in some low melt solder
Thanks for this stellar tutorial. Been looking for guide that didn't require me to de solder the sticks and was step by step with detail. You checked all those boxes. Cheers.
Soldering is a better fix as it could be the inner ring that wears not the part he replaced but this is a cheap and easy fix that works most of the time do it a couple times tho the inner part will wear and you will definitely need to solder
You’re the best homie I bought 2 ps5 one for me and my girl. both had drift cleaned both out like you did now they both work. I bought an extra controller but ima put it away for now as both work
shit like this piss me off. I want to play video games not be a scientist 😂. Sony sells us inferior products. My n64 controller still works and has been put thru a gauntlet of death defying trials
Not just Sony but also Microsoft with their Xbox controllers. I fixed two of them already for the same issue but no need to replace the parts. I just did some heavy cleaning, remove, clean, and reset the little round things. I did not use alcohol, I used BW-100 to clean it with, it's an electronic contact cleaner.
Same with my PS4 controller. I punished that thing for almost 7 years. Still works perfectly fine. I treated my Dualsense like the head of a newborn baby. It had issues after being in use for barely longer than a year.
I tried repairing my stick drift with this method, i 1stly replaced potentiometer for only horizontal movement (because my stick was drifting left) but it didn't fix the problem, I've had many parts so i just replaced it again but this time for both horizontal and vertical movement but it didn't fix horizontal one or at least it didn't fix it fully. Now stick zeroes but when i move it slightly to the left i get max value on it (vertical works like a charm after i changed it but there was no problem with it since the beginning). Between every replacement I've cleaned parts with isopropyl alcohol. It still doesn't work well after 3-4 repairs. I keep getting max values when i move joystick slightly to the left.
I had the same issue like yours, it drift max to the left in the main screen..1st try cleaning it work, after few month same issue appeared again. Clean few times the issue remained. Suspect the green magnet part damage. Just got my spared part today, going to soldering replace it.
What he changed in the video is the cheaper and easier fix but it is possible that the part he didn't replace is what was worn and that requires soldering
new components will come from the factory with a certain amount of dialectric lubricant applied so the end result here will be better than a simple cleaning and reassambly. Can confirm, I've done this with many pots over the years (but it won't fix worn-out springs)
The most impressive part of this is that you picked up and screwed in every screw 1 handed and didnt drop any of them 😂 id have been on my hands and knees combing the carpet for the dropped screw by screw 3
I take it the 3 metal pegs under the plastic housing that connect to the board are just mounting and not actually electronic components? I want to try this but I'm afraid they'll break when I pry open the housing. Also I suppose I'll need to clean the housing before replacing the component? I don't have any grease though... I used to have a silicone spray but misplaced it lol
6:24 why cant i snap mine back in? I changed the little white thing from my other ps5 controller that i dont use but it was from the right side analog to the left analog. Any solution??
Almost worked... instead of just one stick with extreme amounts of drift, now both drift but only slightly and they respond better to little correction taps. That at least should make the controller a lot more usable than before. Of course, if microsoft/mojang would just put a deadzone setting in minecraft I wouldn't have to bother doing this at all. It's the only game I have this problem with.
@@gabrielsburg I'm in the middle of changing mine right now and noticed that several of the instructions say you have to calibrate. I bet the calibration process could also create the deadzone you wanted too but might not need it with the new part.
You just need to clean the wipers or put new ones in , it takes longer to take it apart then replacing them and putting it back together I just did all mine and they are like new again
@@stoneyhigh05 ya I figured that out now and have bought the replacements but am having trouble with the de soldering I’ve used wick but I think I need a pump or station
My potentiometers were rainbow colored on the metal part. I know now that is not what they are supposed to look like. Guess I'll wait until they finally go then I'll buy all new parts from AliExpress
All other consoles from Sony never had this issue - as I've played them ak- why now after had 2 of them going in a drift n cannot be fix or get money back v Sony v buying on amazon
LO mejor es cambiarlos por análogos magnéticos o de efecto hall y se acaba por siempre lo del molesto DRYFT, esa solución es temporal casi que inútil..! es perder el tiempo...!
@@jalienpaul8748 open it up again and do the same thing again on a more extreme level or order the hall effect parts and put that inside your controller.
I just spray WD40 Electrical Connector cleaner into the thumbstick area and rotate the sticks around a few times and wait for it to dry and about 90% of the time my stick drift is fixed. If not I do it again and everything is good… If eventually I can’t fix it this way I will buy a new controller.
yes, you can do it this way, but it will last for a maximum of ten days, then again drifting analog sticks, I'm crazy, I put about 30 thousand in the controllers
Idk if this works or not but honestly I'm not gonna watch past the first 30 seconds. The controller he's showing at the beginning is player 2 while off-screen someone else has player 1 controller and is pushing up in the game. Completely invalidates anything else you have to say/do in the video
This is fucking shit. I cleaned out the sensor as shown without replacing, and all it did was kill the stickbox. This happened to two of my controllers! Thankfully one was already dead but that does not excuse the fact that the method killed two stickboxes!
Im ab to switch over to pc im tired of PlayStation scamming us into buying new controllers not to mention they can obviously fix the stick drift problem they just want ppl to keep buying controllers

Those parts are super cheap anyway
Yes listen to this man both my os5 controllers had drift bought a new one decided to try and clean both and they both are working it was just dirty
🎯💯 I cleaned the existing with a que top and isopropyl dissapeared. The drift dissapeared 👌

What screw that you are using, dont want to buy a cheap one.

they ARE electrical components & are the source of transfering the input signal to the board.
6:24 why cant i snap mine back in? I changed the little white thing from my other ps5 controller that i dont use but it was from the right side analog to the left analog. Any solution??
Same here
No need to bend those potentiometers as much. Just bend it enough so you can get into the inside. Doing this 1 or twice more will make it break off.
If I disassembled my controller this far, I am going to remove that factory garbage joystick and solder in a proper hall effect joystick module. 🤪
Yes I did with mine, super cheap and effective, also a better feeling now with magnetic hall
Can I use this part from PS4 controller?
This only works some of the time. If the black rings are worn you gotta get soldering.
did this and didn't work for me. gonna probably have to solder a replacement in mine.... eventually..
Bro, thank you i was able to fix my controller

What if u don't have Isopropyl acid? Could u use hydrogen peroxide
No. Just buy some isopropyl, it’s like a couple dollars for a large container. Get the highest percentage you can find.

yes

After using Qtips, make sure all cotton fibers are removed from controller because if not, they can make things worse.
