- On 26 June 1972 the IRA murdered Malcolm (Mick) Banks, 30.
Royal Engineers soldier/bomb disposal shot in his back, though open tail door of a landrover, before midnight, while out on patrol.
Two soldiers were standing on either side.
The Landrover was lured to the area by a report near Beechfield School, Short Strand, North Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Staff Sergeant Banks was just finishing voluntarily building a hut for disabled children at Dee Street special needs centre, Belfast.
Staff Sergeant Banks`s wife and 2 young children received the news during the night, in England, where they were on holiday from Germany.
