    Thank-you for the Video - saved hundreds of dollars on a plumber. Would like to give back and add an update that Pfister part number S74-292 is the same part as Pfister part number 974-292. Home Depot sells Danco part number 80550 which compares to (same part) as Pfister Avante 974-292. BTW awesome music. Well done, my friend - great job!!!

      Good looking out cuz that was the only cross- part number that popped up and it's the right one 👍....
      So by you posting the part number you provided cheaper avenues via Amazon $9.99 opposed to $30.99-49.99 everywhere!

    Thank you Thank you Thank you ! I searched for SHWR 7105 and found your video. Everything you've shown has helped me and I was able to change the cartridge today. When I tried to pull it out with the the knob, I ended up breaking it but I was able to hold the stem and pull it out with some effort.
    A local business wanted $42 for the cartridge when AMZN has it for half the price!

    Thanks PoMan_911 - You are the best. I took pictures of my cartridge and took to big box and plumbing supply stores because I did not know the model or the maker or how to remove stem. They were 0, zilch, nada, help. I found the patent number 3661181A on the cartridge by taking a picture of the stem and determine the patten was issued to Price-Pfister. Then I found you on RUclips. - Now I am hero to my wife. Thanks at least $500 times.

    Thank you... this was very useful. I have the same bathtub faucet and it was very difficult to take out as well... but this video boosted my confidence to take care of this... The plumbing company that I had contacted was about to charge me $500+ for this... I got this done with $21 + some anxiety/apprehension.

    Thank you sooooo much!!!
    We have made two failed attempts to find a suitable solution for the old shower that we have. And almost when we gave up and called the plumber, we found you video.
    And that gave us confidence that the identical replacement exists and you even provided the part number which made finding it in one of local Home Depot stores a breeze!
    Nice music on the background:)

    Thanks for an excellent video. I had the exact same model number shower stem. I live in a small city and the plumbing supply places in our town are small, do not stock many parts, and do not talk much. Forget any kind of a schematic diagram or a picture. Your instructions helped warn me about issues that could occur and helped guide me through the successful selection and installation of the cartridge! You are a life saver! On any home fix it project, I am never relaxed when performing major plumbing or electrical projects until the repair is completely done. Success and saved $$$. Carry ON!

    Thanks for the post. My Pfister valve was installed in 1983. It was a bear to get out. The original part had two rubber pieces left in the housing after I pulled out the valve with a tremendous amount of effort. I considered using a drill. Needed to remove those two rubber pieces by easily prying them off with a screwdriver. Not shown in your video. I used a replacement part from Home Depot. Works fine now.

I just took it apart and honed the inside valve body with emery cloth and 000 steel wool and assembled the used cartridge parts cleaned with a light coating of silicone grease and now it's perfect.

      Thank you. It was a 6K video sensor (Sony a6500) on a tripod. I replaced three of these things. Where I used to live (San Jose, CA) these things were in everyone of the houses in the Almaden Valley. This meant that thousands of people will need to figure out what to do with their shower plumbing. BTW there is an upgrade for the Avanti from Price Fister which I did not partake because the cut-out hole was too big to hide it with the upgrade shower wall cover.

What could be the cause of that? Also My water pressure feels lower now that the new valve is on. What could that be? Do you have a video or videos you recommend for these issues?

    • @poman911
      @poman911  Год назад

      Leak past the o-ring will results in lower flow.
      You might have damaged the o-ring on the valve insert when inserting or there could have been minerals built up inside the piping. I typically put alot of silicone grease around the o-ring; clean out the inside of the water pipe with 400 grits wet sand paper, flush all the sandy grits out and then re-insert valve body with new o-ring.

    Thank you for this wonderful video. Do you happen to know the size of your original Price Pfister bolt that you've shown in your video? I have exactly what you have, except I have a short sheet metal screw for the knob. I'd like to use a bolt similar to yours to give myself a better chance of removing the cartridge. Thank you very much in advance.

      The screw came with the trim kit (see the amazon link). You can get the trim at Home Depot the last time I checked in 2018. Good luck.

    What do you do if you can't get the cartridge out? I tried everything!

    • @poman911
      @poman911  3 года назад

      spray penetrating oil around the cartridge let it soak for 2 hours then use flat screw driver and wiggle from the side tabs out.

      @@poman911 A screw extractor was drilled in the stem, and then it was pulled with steady and even pressure very hard with channel lock pliers to get it out. You don't want to pull back and forth to avoid damaging the pipes. Penetrating oil was not used to avoid leaving a residue that could damage the new cartridge. As a very last resort, a plumber told me that you can turn the water back on to get some water pressure to help you get it out as a very last resort, since the cartridge could go flying. Gotta be ready to turn the water off fast when it comes out!

    I changed my cartridge and it still leaks intermittently!? Bad replacement or bad installation?

      Some items to check: 1) cleaned the inside of the pipe using fine sandpaper? 2) used silicone grease on the o-rings?

    Thanks for the video. Same with our shower faucet. I was trying to take out the cartridge but, doesn't come out . I kept pulled out the cartridge but, still did not come out. What do you recommend to do, so that the cartridge come out easily? Thank You!

      use penetrating oil (liquid wrench) let soak for a few hours, tap on it lightly with a hammer (the vibrations will loosen the cartridge) spray more penentrating oil, tap lightly with hammer then pull it out.

      I use penetrating oil, the kind that is used to free rusted bolts. The oil flows through the edges. let it soak for a few hours.

      @poman911  4 года назад

      Usually when a stem leak it drips out of the pull out knob. If it leaks to a lower floor below the bathroom, You might have pin leaks with the copper pipes. Copper pipes need to be grounded to the dirt so that it doesn't have corrosion.

    • @poman911
      @poman911  4 года назад

      Apply silicone grease around the plastic stem and over the o-ring. You cannot overapply it because when you push the stem in, it will push all the excess out.

    I replaced my cartridge following your instructions and everything went smoothly. However, my shower head pressure is still low. Any tips what else I should check/replace?

    • @poman911
      @poman911  4 года назад

      Check your water pressure starting with that from the water heater. Next is the pressure regulator; typically a pressure regulator is right outside your house and over time they may not enable the regulated pressure (60 psi). Last time I helped my neighbor it was a rusted and it turns out it didn't maintain pressure drop. Could not adjust the water pressure and ended up calling a plumber who turned off the water from the street, cut off the old regulator, welded a new one ($500 bill).

      @@poman911 Thanks for the tips. I figured out the problem was a swollen mesh filter inside one of the shower head fittings. Not sure how it got swollen, my guess was from the hot water.
