Did they give any details on new DS1825+ ?

Cool for them for finally releasing backup appliances, but as a sysadmin that works in a company that has Synology systems in production, I would never use them because the Active Backup for Business Agent for Linux sucks, it's an outdated mess with 0 reliability. I'm currently looking for a replacement for my linux servers.

I'm in the market for a new NAS, whats the likelihood do we think of them refreshing the DS series?

They clearly gave up on consumer level hardware. With every brand outperforming them (Qnap, Asustor, Ugreen), soon they will wake up with no consumer market.

cool for enterprise, let us use whatever drive we want and they would retain their kings of nas title, update hardware -- just seems like they just want enterprise market, Ugreen will take over for consumers.

Why do people want to a NAS to do everything? Your NAS should handle data storage, and that's it. Split your application hosting off into its own server. Jamming everything into one box is just asking for trouble.

Power, space and fund restrictions are a big ones, also not every business is a mega corp with an IT department. A hair dresser needs a booking system, a SMS reminder system, a transaction system, a website, accounting software and reporting system. Throw in cameras and suddenly you need to support video. Everything is computer and data driven these days. People would rather buy 1 box that does most of what they need than buy 6 different boxes.

@@ericneo2 you don't need six boxes, you need two: one for data storage and one for applications. Even if you are a small business you should be able to justify two systems; off-lease HP Elitedesk Minis and Lenovo Thinkcentres are dirt cheap. But most SMBs are going to handle webhosting, CRM, invoicing, etc. in the cloud, anyway.

If your only "server" is a NAS and you discover you can do other stuff with it, it's a nice compromise before actually having to buy (and configure) a separate server host. It has been my journey and I'm pretty sure it's a very common one 🤷‍♂

This guy seriously is allergic to the very simple act of stating right at the beginning "this video is sponsored by x" ffs, i understood it months ago but so many times now the exact same issue, i just have to assume now that its willful and not lack of knowledge or ignorance, gg thats how you ruin a built fanbase just to make short term a tiny bit more money

I'm going to start doing the old school PBS _this video is sponsored in part by_ just for you. But yeah, this is an older one. I have it in the description and have the RUclips disclaimer on which shows up right away in the upper left corner. Will make sure it's verbalized better going forward. It doesn't matter, but this video in particular, I'm in the negative about $1000.

At least they fixed the "corrupted RAR file" issue recently and before their EXPO before they show themselves to be an embarrassment to the industry

Synology forgot the conumer and their needs. They lost the game against home labers because they didn't fight in the last five years... Come on, less cores same price less funcionality? Does not make any sense to me. If they are up their game, it could get interesting though.
