- Amador Valley High School Symphony Orchestra performing "Glory to Hong Kong" as a part of their "songs of protest" program.
Glory to Hong Kong was written by a musician under the pseudonym "Thomas dgx yhi". The song was adopted as the anthem for the Hong Kong protests and has even been regarded as the "national anthem of Hong Kong". In 2019, Hong Kong had widespread protests for a proposed extradition bill that they felt infringed on their rights. While this bill was later scrapped, just one year later in June 2020, Beijing enacted a new national security law under cover of the Corona Virus that criminalized any act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with foreign or external forces.
In 1997, Hong Kong was given back to China from Britain under an agreement called “One Country, Two Systems”.
Under this agreement, Hong Kong was supposed to retain a high degree of autonomy along with democratic freedoms including the right to vote as well as the freedom of speech, press, and assembly until the year 2047. Beijing has not waited for the deal to expire… but Hong Kong has been pushing back. Large scale protests have occurred in 2003 and 2014 to retain their protected rights.

Today, the Hong Kong government deregistered an elementary school teacher for life. Reason being the teacher had prepared a lesson plan that touches upon independence movement in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong may sound a little remote to you. Hong Kong may be too small a place to be shown on the world map. But our existence deserves to be acknowledged - we are against dictatorship yet we are muffled. We need your help - speak for us; speak for those who can no longer voice.
