I’m 56 and just starting to learn to rope climb, using this video as my tutorial. I can wait to have some success and make my own videos on the subject on my channel. Thanks so much Marcus! Love your channel!
Great tips. Of all the video's I've seen on this subject, no one has gone into so much detail as this with the grip and the twist and everything. Gonna start training this, this week, got the rope, just need to crack on. Cheers.
Not only is rope climbing a fantastic exercise and an underrated old school exercise it benefits in the real world , I rope climb at home in my garage with a 15 ft rope once or twice a week in between weights it’s an exercise that is functional in everyday living I go to a climbing wall once or twice a year with my son there aren’t many routes I can’t do , I once had to climb up and over a twenty foot fence I couldn’t believe how quick I got over it also to the amazement of the people I was with , so I would absolutely say that rope climbing exercises are one of the best out there and one of the cheapest. I would highly recommend using chalk it gives you the grip of a vice . By the way I’m 57 years old .
Amazing tutorial! Finally someone who explained this correctly and nice!! Thanks a lot, I always had problems with climbing(i was pretty strong i could do a lot of pull ups) with these tips, i can climb without any problem! Thanks! Greetings from Poland!
Wowzers trousers! Who knew that rope climbing was such a great activity, it's much more fun than boring old pull-ups chin-ups etc. Thanks m8 you're an inspiration, love you!
great videos! The music is a bit loud though, far louder than any of the talking. Maybe have the video editor adjust. Great tips - thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I don't think anyone I have seen could match what we were doing in college rope climbing in the 60's, when it was a still a lower division gymnastic event. It was then a 20-foot rope, starting from a seated position. The world record was 2.8 seconds. I was #10 in the country doing it in 3.5 seconds. When I look at the first 20 feet by even the best now they look very very slow compared to what we were doing then. I do respect what these athletes are doing, but truly there's no comparison. - Mike P
I just took a look at the records, and it does seem they are totally new. I used to climb for some time, and was A LOT slower than you guys were. I didn´t compete, and was not effectively "just climbing", and wasn´t concerned with anything, but just doing it more. I did a climb of a 4.5m rope at 93kg bw at 3 some seconds. I could not do even 1 strict one arm pullup, even though I could pump 3/4 for a few. I did assume you needed to be good for 1.5-1.8m a second to be really good at it, and over 2m, say 2.2/ 2.3 m a second didn´t seem impossible. Now say a 2.5m a second speed, that would be bonkers, proper chimp action. I used to climb this somewhat shorter setup 4 times in a row at my fastest. I thought then that I could climb 18 meters for sure any day, if kinda rested, and at that point, even getting to 30 ism meters in a row didn´t seem impossible to eventually get. i was getting steadily heavier from about 87-89kg to 93kg, doing the climbs and walking/cycling, and could do 26 slow pullups at that time.
Good tutorial but I have a question about ropes. Isn't braided ropes better? Rather than twist? All braided climbing ropes I've seen are really thin. I really can't see getting a good grip on them. To the best of my knowledge, those are hawser ropes you are using.
Cool. Surely one arm hangs can't be that dangerous, in fact later on in the video it shows a one arm hang/ climb with arms fully extended. I do one arm hangs all the time and am practicing the one arm pull-up.
Your body will turn as it hangs if you've not got the strength left to hold your shoulder steady, and it can quite easily twist your humerus to breaking point.
Hey, that's a great vid! I have a rope fixed at home but every time I want to use it it gets slippery. If there's anybody here that can point me to some ideas regarding how to prepare rope for climbing, it will be much appreciated!
How thick is the rope? All the ones I see for sale on the web are only 1-1/2" and I seem to remember them being thicker at the gym when I was in middle school. Though that was in the late 1950s!
Every time I climb my elbows hurt sooo bad. I’ve tried what you are saying about keeping my wrists bent but i can’t seem to get any relief. Any other tips?
what is the best diameter rope for an average size male who wants as much comfort for his hands as possible? aha On amazon the sizes seem to be either 38mm or 50mm?

One question: When people do one arm pull-up rope climbs, they do have a fully extended arm for a moment, right?
What thickness rope should I buy? Any particular composition like jute?
For for 1.5-2 inch diameter - cotton is best, then Manila! 💪🏽🏆💥
you da man bro
Do you recommend using chalk or gloves for rope climbing?
insanely awesome man

Captain Bondi, what's the ∅ of the rope? Looks like 50mm? Thanks for the hype!!!

yo are motivation 👏!! thanks Marcus
YO! Alberto! Muchos gracias muchacho multo-bene!
How does hanging too extended lead to a broken humerus? Just curious
Your body will turn as it hangs if you've not got the strength left to hold your shoulder steady, and it can quite easily twist your humerus to breaking point.

It’s crazy I can do this fast as heck everyone is shocked when I fly up maybe I should compete
Probably dont weigh much
3:05 Then go to a 100%? Why would you go a 100% if you've exhausted your 80%? What about 60%?
using different muscles (activating the lats as he said)
Of course the world record holder for this would be an Aussie :)
I have got pain in my left hand just above the elbow, after climbing the rope... It's hurting... Can you please tell me the solution
