Dalilah Muhammad was driven every step of the way to improving her women’s 400m hurdles world record as she won gold in 52.16, a couple of pounding heartbeats ahead of her 20-year-old US rival Sydney McLaughlin.
The latter was rewarded with silver in 52.23 - just three hundredths of a second off Muhammad’s original record - after a performance that hinted at riches to come in future years.

Love how these 2 Women push each other do do better! They both Shattered the World Record at the Olympics.
I love their story
Do do lol
Anyone else find it super satisfying how they were in sync when running at the end🤷🏽♀️
Yes!
I watched one 5k or 10k where the two leading women were in absolute perfect unwavering sync for for more than 5 laps until the final lap. It was so weird
fabulous
Perfectly in Sync, even the hands!
Mclauglin maybe getting the headlines now, but Muhammed is such a class act even when losing, and slaughtered 52 s in Tokyo too
I love Muhammad.
She is amazingly beautiful.
Muhammad would later say in an interview that she was inspired by Warholm to go all out from the very beginning, strategy be damned, and it paid off. Can't wait for greater things from all of them next year.
Yep. Hope the Olympics hold this year. Already there's talk it may be postponed again.
@@onigbajamo I think they're having it but with no spectators from outside Japan, which seems fair enough.
In terms of greatness, this race is only second to David Rudisha's 800m WR in London in 2012.
All beautiful *WOMEN* competing together 💙 as it should always be.
Can the lady commentator learn how to pronounce names? She always messes up athletes names😣😥
This is the last time Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone lost a 400m huddles race (as of today Thursday August 8, 2024)
Today she broke her own world record with a time of 50.37, to win the Olympic gold medal.
It must be a requirement to be gorgeous and amazing on the track 🤔
tyson lol.
It helps that they're all in shape. In most places in my country, the women have been replaced by landwhales
And the makeup of course.
David Wand
True on that, my friend wore waterproof make up for her race so she would look good in photos
Ian Cypes Must live in the USA 😂🤝
Delilah Muhammad is a class act. A lady, and a champ. I'm constantly reading comments favoring Sydney over Muhammad to one degree or another. I love Sydney too. She IS the heir apparent. But c'mon, Muhammad deserves a little more respect. She is after all the 2016 Olym champ, 2019 WC, and had the best season of any athlete in a long time. She set, then broke her own WR all in the space of 4 months. Sydney is a great young talent; she'll be heard from, but for now a little respect for Muhammad is in order.
Well put. I think Delilah is near her peak while Syndey will continue to improve since she is only 20 years old.
@@keithblain8763 --Thank you. Yes, Sydney will continue to improve. The way she pushes Muhammad, the way Muhammad makes her bring her best. It's probable that Sydney will one day own the 400mH WR. As for now, I'm glad both are at the disposal of team USA whether 400mH or 4x4 relay.
@@keithblain8763 You "Still" can't realize that there can't be two #1s when there is "ONLY" 1 winner...SMH. Also, tomorrow is "NOT" promised to anyone.
I think that there is a little bit of the Lolo Jones in all this. Sydney McLaughlin is just so extraordinarily good-looking, as well as having all the talent, that she just gets an enormous amount of attention.
@@gilgamesh3328 --A thumbs up on your comment. The Lolo Jones/Sidney McLaughlin comparison spot on. Except I think Sidney will win. When it's her time. Not choke in the big races.
Good gosh, after the track event, they have a beauty contest.
That was a very good looking field, no doubt.
I agree! Beautiful and talented women 💪
I agree totally, I am not so beautiful and running my God, can't even try, came almost always last in school.
Very glad there are no big titties.
Nice to see a black sister win!
No Olympic I’m watching the world championship from quarantine lol 😂 amazing race hope everyone stay healthy i would love to see a 51 in the Olympic next year!
@@alansamuel2454 That's why they said next year.
@@alansamuel2454, LOL, no shit, Sherlock!? I think that's why he said, "next year!"
@@alansamuel2454 ... bahahahahahahaha
Olympics are coming .....
@@BlueHopi144 gonna be sweet, the woman 100m is also going to be hot
Everyone keeps saying when Sydney improves her hurdles and cleans up her technique she is going to be unbeatable, you guys are acting like dalilah is just gonna remain the same and isn’t going to train and improve too.
No offence but she's 30. She can improve but not much
Age + the law of diminishing returns. She;s still got a few good years left at 30/31 but she's almost perfect technically and won't really improve speed-wise anymore. McLaughlin's young and her ceiling is still a lot higher based on this race.
@Martianez Rorie Olympics are like 5 months away. We'll be here
she's going to get older as all athletes do. and her technique is already pretty perfected, so less room for improvement
Now Dalilah is 31 while Sydney is just 21.
also very happy that Dalilah and Sydney were in the 4x400 relay team
Who is here after Sydney broke it?
It's insane how now 52 is ran by like half the field in every race
One of the most beautiful races I have ever seen. Competitive and respectful.
De acuerdo con usted!!!
Wow!! Dalilah also looks like she just came off a Victoria Secret runway. Stunning!
4 words records in 4races together unbelievable, powers girls Dalilah and Sedney
This will be one of the best races this year at the olympics with McLaughlin, Muhammad and Bol in the final :)
What an amazing race this was. Lived up to expectations. They are all gorgeous and super talented too. This new world record will be broken again as these two ladies will break the 52 seconds. Amazing race.
Not all of them.
Sydney and Dalilah had another great race in Tokyo. And congratulations to Sydney for breaking the world record again.
Great job Muhammad and McLaughlin. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dalilah MUHAMMAD IS Beautiful!!!
Here after Sydney McLaughlin breaks the WR.
and she set another World Record in the Olympics too 51.46s
both of them did
whos here after sydney mclaughlin broke the wr today
Delilah"s running technique is simply awsome...love this girl😍
Not that others were not good but I was pulling for Muhammed. I'm ecstatic that she won. Congratulations Dalila
Anyone watching this in quarantine
And they both got the nerve to be gorgeous on top of all that speed and strength??!
This has to be one of the hardest events in track these girls have to be in tremendous shape
400 meters flat is one of the most difficult races to run....add hurdles to it and you get a monster of a race.
it used to be called the man-killer.
Delilah and Sydney should also join Miss World and Miss Universe respectively for the USA to get the crown in beauty pageants.
who came back here after sydney broke the world record
The way they were so far ahead of everyone else
Mclaughlin need to work on her technique going over the hurdles.
Andrew Brown lol she’s the second fastest hurdler of all time...
Andrew Brown Yeah she needs to work on her left lead leg cause you see the last hurdle slowed her down cause she cleared it with her weak leg.
Andrew Brown youre right, she’s still young and made it this far without being the greatest at that, shell make it eventually but umm who’re you to say that 🤔
At her NCAA title she DEMOLISHED everyone and she was practically bunny hopping over the hurdles. I was so impressed, but it was funny to see.
4 WR's in 4 consecutive races for these two phenomenal women!
McLaughlin is so pretty 😘😘😘😘
Not as pretty as Sage! But of course I am biased because she is the same r.ace as me!
Hahaha the media tried to erase Muhammad!!!!
No.
It's just that Syd is *FIVE* seconds better than Dalilah at age 19/20.
She owns the next decade. Come on. There is a big difference. She was bareñy 20 in this race and only lost by 0.07....& it took a new WR just to beat her by that slim margin.
And she was closing.
@@efisgpr Doesn't matter. Syd still took that L. Case closed.
@@efisgpr Coming into the race Dalilah was overlooked even though she had just broken a 16-year record less than 4 months prior
@@Jadtravels Deliah was only overlooked but the Sydney fans who focused more on her looks.
If you were a fan of Track period you knew it would be a toss up.
@@efisgpr
That is not how life works.
Don't jinx Sydney with your blind proclamations.
Usain Bolt ran the fastest time ever at 21.
Every athlete is different.
Let's just hope she is healthy and the chips fall where they may.
I like how these two women in their races are able to take the wins and losses and show such immense respect for each other. Like, Sydney, seeing the time and slapping Dalilah's knee with this "go girl" look. It's bloody lovely, given the disappointment each must carry when they lose to each other, too.
Two of the greatest ever in the same era! Very special times for this event. Looking forward to their Olympic showdown in 2021 if they stay healthy. Also looking forward to a possible 4 x 400 relay record!
I’m so happy they got rid of that old world record that old world record was a drug record! Hopefully next year both ladies can stay healthy and go 51 and drag a few more ladies to go under that old world record too!
Beautiful race, beautiful ladies and a world record. Perfection does exist.
Daiah Muhammad is the champion
I hope both Muhammad and McLaughlin can run under 52 by Tokyo 2021.
2 More months to wait ....
your wish has been granted
@@Kagame1 No sh*t, their times 51.4 and 51.5 are absolutely insane. Even Femke Bol ran 52 flat for bronze. I'm sure Bol will be the next to run under 52.
POV: you watching this in 2022
4:20 - Amazing synchronization!
She can't wear that and call herself a Muslim. It violates islamic dresscode
And now Muhammed's record had been broken by McLaughlin...
What a performance! World Athletics should spend more time marketing these amazing athletes to a wider audience.
What I love about both these incredible athletes is HOW they've both pushed each other over the last few years ... and have produced some of the Greatest RACES of any Athletic event!! Man or Woman.
You can see how they've FED off the other and how the Strengths of each girl aid in making the other stronger.
Delilah being the graceful and more efficient Hurdler, while Sydney has an edge in Foot Speed.... but when they have raced through the years we see how each athlete's "weaknesses", if you'd call it that Lol, have resulted in some of the Closest and Hardest Fought... WR inducing ... races of Track n Field history.
These two graceful Champions are perfect examples of what you can achieve with dedication, hard work and obviously Talent.👍👍
@Will Stuart--Very good analysis. Thoughtful and accurate. Too bad comments like this don't get more likes.
my absolute fave race ever
Really?! To me, the Women's 400m at the 2019 World Championships was a better race (even though it didn't produce a WR). Because, just about everyone expected Shaunae Miller-Uibo to win. But Salwa Eid Naser pulled the upset. And it was one of the fastest times in history of the sporting event.
Tyran Mathurin It was my favorite too. But now we have to wait another year for the Tokyo olympics which is kinda sad bc I wanted to see naser and Miller go at it again in the 400.
@@TheTmat007 Exactly, Dalilah was already the WR holder prior to this showing that she had the potential to break it again. But Shaunaue had an unbeaten streak up till the WC 400 m. Naser actually made it pretty close to Kratochkovilova , something that any athlete drugged or clean couldn't with the exception of Koch. But it goes to show that Shaunae for some reason was holding back a lot prior to the WC and that she did not perform to her absolute best in any other race.
@@arathgomez615 Regardless of not a WR, Naser has a very reasonable chance to be the 2nd best of all time. And she's just 21!
@@kellywillis8091 You have severely underestimated Naser by making that comment.
I like the mutual respect between Dalailah and Sidney
Wow. Both American ladies are dominant.
Muhammad clears the hurdles smoother. But, McLaughlin has better flatfoot speed.
It's harder to used your speed when you're hurting ; that's what Daiilah did to Sydney , by going out so hard . Great race between two beautiful monsters . Don't see anyone touching either of these two anytime soon . Love them both .
Femke Bol has entered the chat
Sydney need better clearance, just jumps to high... other than that good race
Who would have thought at the time that Sydney would run 1.5 seconds faster just 3 years later.
Dalilah Muhammad broke her own record, who does that 🙄 😹.
Three of four things could make Sidney significantly faster. A start would be to invest in a pair of comfortable loose fitting shorts. As clearly her conscious brain is aware of her discomfort both before and after each race, her subconscious brain will likewise be adversely affected during the race.
Most women have an adverse personality trait which compels them to (in their minds) look pretty even if shoes, shorts etc. make them uncomfortable. Some will even disfigure their feet in the process. Being pretty they interpret as steadfastly following present fashion. Even highly intelligent women such as Sally Pearson admitted to being uncomfortable following fashion, but alas were not brave enough to go their own way.
The more famous a sports person becomes the more they tend to usurp their coaches. Even the few that give sound advice.
All Hail Queen Dahlilah!
Ahhh the melanin in Delilah.... she's astonishingly beautiful and her running was just perfect! All hail to the Queen. Hope to see her at the Tokyo Olympics!
Syd is half white and WAY more talented....so....??
Plus come on.... "astonishingly beautiful" lmao. She is okay at best.
Syd is beautiful, though.
This reminds me of the rival between jeremy wariner and lashawn meritt.
I miss these two legend.
@@wesw7241 yeah me to, but every time has own legends
I always think this is the toughest track and field race. Basically sprinting for 400 metres while jumping fences every so often.
I am sure these ladies would rather do 400m hurdles than 400 flat.
Toughness is relative.
To them I am sure to them this event is easier than 400m flat.
@Trel Kel
The 800m is considered to be the hardest Track n Field distance event. Because the first 400-450m is an all out sprint, so you are using your anaerobic fibers, but the last 350-400m use your aeorobic fibers and this specific transition is absolutely excruciating for the body.
Head To Head (Since 2019 only)

Amazing photo finish. It was like synchronized dancing!
They're beautiful
Rochelle Clayton has looks.
If it were the the 405m hurdles, Sydney would have won.
Wow. Congratulations on your world record. You have wings and springs in your legs
If anyone ran 400m in HS, you know how crazy fast these times are even without the hurdles.
Delilah will finally be slowing down by 2021 because of age (she will be 31) and McLaughlin will be starting to approach her peak years so it's going to be reversed in Tokyo with a WR for McLaughlin of course very likely if she hasn't already broken it a few times before the Olympics. She just keeps improving 0.5 seconds or more every year and she only just turned 21. But Muhammad has proven herself to be a great champion in her time. Hopefully when McLaughlin has lowered the WR several times we won't forget how great Muhammad was and what a clutch performer she was in the big meets.
McLaughlin really put NJ on the map
Amizing how they have had to break the world record to beat each other
Go ahead Muhammad with yo bad self ❤️
Now 'this' is track n field . These performances were epic ....A priceless display of athletics.! Con grats to all the ladies .

Congrats Clayton, bigger things next year
That's more tiring than a normal 400m race. Even at the highest level you still die after the race💀
If Sydney didn't keep switching her lead leg and if she had her steps down it wouldn't have been close. Sydney will be smashing this record when she clean up her huddle steps.
She has a lot of time to improve that. She is only 20.
Sydney McLaughlin is so beautiful 😻😻😻

Hermosa Dalilah MUHAMMAD!
Running of the super models.
At Time, Sydney already improved herself as Dalila's heir apparent.
Sydney possesses incredible qualities that, if she develops, can still improve the Dalilah' record. She needs to fix the technique a little bit more over the hurdles, because it takes a long time and it takes over.
