    Dalilah Muhammad was driven every step of the way to improving her women’s 400m hurdles world record as she won gold in 52.16, a couple of pounding heartbeats ahead of her 20-year-old US rival Sydney McLaughlin.
    The latter was rewarded with silver in 52.23 - just three hundredths of a second off Muhammad’s original record - after a performance that hinted at riches to come in future years.

    Delilah Muhammad is a class act. A lady, and a champ. I'm constantly reading comments favoring Sydney over Muhammad to one degree or another. I love Sydney too. She IS the heir apparent. But c'mon, Muhammad deserves a little more respect. She is after all the 2016 Olym champ, 2019 WC, and had the best season of any athlete in a long time. She set, then broke her own WR all in the space of 4 months. Sydney is a great young talent; she'll be heard from, but for now a little respect for Muhammad is in order.

    Three of four things could make Sidney significantly faster. A start would be to invest in a pair of comfortable loose fitting shorts. As clearly her conscious brain is aware of her discomfort both before and after each race, her subconscious brain will likewise be adversely affected during the race.
    Most women have an adverse personality trait which compels them to (in their minds) look pretty even if shoes, shorts etc. make them uncomfortable. Some will even disfigure their feet in the process. Being pretty they interpret as steadfastly following present fashion. Even highly intelligent women such as Sally Pearson admitted to being uncomfortable following fashion, but alas were not brave enough to go their own way.
    The more famous a sports person becomes the more they tend to usurp their coaches. Even the few that give sound advice.

    I always think this is the toughest track and field race. Basically sprinting for 400 metres while jumping fences every so often.

    • @kundakaps

      I am sure these ladies would rather do 400m hurdles than 400 flat.
      Toughness is relative.
      To them I am sure to them this event is easier than 400m flat.

    • @vide0gameCaster
      @vide0gameCaster 4 года назад +3

      @Trel Kel
      The 800m is considered to be the hardest Track n Field distance event. Because the first 400-450m is an all out sprint, so you are using your anaerobic fibers, but the last 350-400m use your aeorobic fibers and this specific transition is absolutely excruciating for the body.

    Delilah will finally be slowing down by 2021 because of age (she will be 31) and McLaughlin will be starting to approach her peak years so it's going to be reversed in Tokyo with a WR for McLaughlin of course very likely if she hasn't already broken it a few times before the Olympics. She just keeps improving 0.5 seconds or more every year and she only just turned 21. But Muhammad has proven herself to be a great champion in her time. Hopefully when McLaughlin has lowered the WR several times we won't forget how great Muhammad was and what a clutch performer she was in the big meets.
