Thank you for the video. I am just getting back into R/C after a 20+ year break and I am catching up on all of the changes that I missed out on. I was able to get up to speed on just about everything except for the new type of radios like this Spektrum. Back when I was into R/C there were just a few companies out there - Futaba, Airtronics, KO Propo, and Hitec were the major brands that I knew of. Today there are additional new companies like Spektrum and Flysky that are out there that I know almost nothing about.
I was thinking about upgrading my radio recently but, especially after watching this video, I decided to just keep using my old trusty Futaba Magnum FP-T2PD radio. It was the first pistol grip type radio that I ever bought and I still love it. It just feels so comfortable in my hands plus it has all of the adjustability that I could ever need. Today's radios are just too fancy for my use as I am not competing at the IFMAR world championships. I am just out having fun with my R/C monster trucks at the local park or school yard. I certainly do not need all of those ultra fancy (and complicated) features for what I am doing.
This video review just confirmed that I do not need to upgrade from my Futaba Magnum. The last thing that I have ever wanted was a touch screen on my R/C radio. These new radios look great, no doubt about it, but I'll just stick with what has worked great for me since the late 1980s or early 1990s. Other comments have mentioned the price of this Spektrum radio and that lofty price tag definitely confirmed it for me - Futaba Magnum FP-T2PD forever!
    Thanks again for the video!

You don't need a computer to download anything you can load a file for a new car directly to the radio via wifi or 5g hotspot. You can play racing simulators on it and watch RUclips videos on it. It can do anything your smartphone can do. Live telemetry without any extra add-ons. I have the IX20 which is the RC plane version of this radio and it is incredible what it can do. I don't have to program new RC plane models it can do it for me via AI. On any other radio, it can take hours to get everything right. It all depends on what you are going to use it for. If you are going to drive bashers with 2 channels then it's not worth it. The Radio link would be a better option for bashing.

I had to constantly charge it, I had to the steering trim every time I started a race, it was heavier it Also took forever to boot, so I never shut it off on race days because it took too long, but then it killed the batter so it had to constantly be on the charger. I switched to a Flysky NB4 radio and never looked back.. 700 for this radio is a joke. Anyone thinking about this should just get the NB4 and save yourself money. this is more expensive than the Sanwa M17, anf MOST people who race run that radio.

35 years in the hobby and have only ever used Futaba and they have never failed me. I have had my 7PX for years now and it does more than I could ever need and yes I have a dual ESC with 4WS crawler that took seconds to program on my 7PX. I have all 23 of my RC's on it and never have lost binding between the radio and receivers. All I hear is the terrible performance of spectrum radio's, constant binding issues and difficult to operate mostly along with poor range. 30-45 seconds to boot up when my 6 year old Futaba takes like 1 second. Sorry I will stick to Futaba.

Just like the other IX series radios you can leave it on standby all day when you are out racing or bashing and start up is instant. I have the Spektrum IX20 for my RC Planes. I love it more than anything RC i own. I can watch RUclips videos or fly a flight simulator on the screen with it at the flying field. I can do everything wirelessly with it. Setting up a plane is as easy as downloading a file directly from the radio and it's done. You don't need a computer and you can do it at the field. I am definitely going to get the IXSR for my Surface vehicles. This is awesome.

So youre basically using an android tablet and opening an app that operates the radio and buttons... this is a step backwards lol, the whole platform seems nowhere near ready with the load time, button response, etc. The thing calls your 700 dollar radio a tablet on boot, why would they not remove that from the released product? This might have gotten a pass if it came out 10 years ago.
Best thing to come from this will be when the software gets broken wide open and FOSS can take what they learn from it an implement it themselves. Then again i dont know what the open source radio community looks like for RC so this entire paragraph may be a waste.

Looks cool but I don’t think it’s worth the price tag. In this market there are so many options to choose from. I think as time goes on spektrum will fine tune it and give it a price drop. There is a lot of competition out there and for less money. Thanks for the video

    I expected a lot more.
There is no serial port; no way to add Crossfire, ELRS or similar long range protocol, no way to output channels for a Pan & Tilt.
I've supported Spektrum for decades ,they make great products with very good support, but they are still behind the times.
Look closely, this is just a reboot of the failed DX6R from 7 years ago with Smart telemetry, and a few new features added.

The radio is heavy due to the large battery, which allows the radio to stay in "sleep" or in use for a long time without having to turn off/charge/reboot.

Spektrum are out of their minds charging $700.00 for this thing. Took them 4 years to develop this? No hard case, limited to 6 channels “as a further slap to the face, they give you a 5 channel receiver”. It’s for all users??? It’s not waterproof nor rugged. At least my Radiolink came with a case, 8ch receiver, a 4ch receiver, and a screen protector!!! I haven’t seen a review call it what it is, came out way too late and way overpriced. Hall sensors? My 140.00 RadioMaster MT12 had it first with RGB LEDs, and has more channels than I know what to do with.

Maybe it’s just me, but did they NOT mention anything about the Speed for racers? ( Crawling, Bashing, Boating and Racing?? )
Early in the video, they mention Racers and even show it. Where’s the 4th paragraph? Where’s the segment on Racing and the Radio’s speed response time?
A lot of eye candy in this video, but we need to know about Speed and Range. Spektrum vs Futaba vs Sanwa vs FlySky? Let’s begin.

This is likely the direction the hobby is heading for high-end controllers. The software-defined operation and Android operating system will allow for easy updates and easy model memory management. The stick radios are already on this platform and it's well worth the upgrade for those folks.
I predict there will be a lower price point version.
What I don’t care for is that it doesn't work with the SLT protocols. Being able to control everything Horizon sells with one radio would have made it a bargain.

I owned the DX6R when it first came out. Paid $700 and another $700 for receivers. Hated it from the first time I turned it on. This looks like the same in just a new plastic frame. The Android System was so slow it was almost unusable. Took forever to turn on. I felt I was scammed, so I'll never purchase anything from Spektrum again.

I need to test this for real but for the moment I am not impressed as a racer point of view ( I have a bad vibe of the older model that seems similar ) 706 grams is way to high , the boot time of the radio is awful almost a minute to start using your cars. I wish them luck I will wait 6 months to see if some racers will purchase this thing but I doubt it. I think it will be another Spektrum dud until a major price reduction to be competitive. 😢 , You can even see at around 9:52 that the controller wheel is drifting to the right by 1%, maybe calibration can solve this drifting but it's not impressive.

100% FAIL for me personally. I have been a happy Spektrum user for a LONG time, both air and surface radios. Have two DX3S still used some, a DX5C, and two DX5 Pro that my son and I race with. No need for a radio that costs this much, has an Android touch screen interface, etc...
I hope they keep the 5 Pro model around or update it, the recent DX6C looks nice... I won't be in the market for a touch screen radio or one that is over like $400 any time soon... have my eyes on a Futaba 4PM plus, and/or the Sanwa MT-5, not really interested in the Noble ... the DX5 Pro is rad , dont need more bells and whistles really, so I hope it sticks around or gets a refresh some day... bit i habe to wonder how many folks will even consider this unit...im guessing not too many.
    Thanks for the video.

I don't want my race radio to be my Android phone. I do want it to be fast, comfortable, light, easy to use and have a great battery life. I couldn't care less about it being in colour and touch screen is a bad combo with tyre additive etc...
