Welcome to the Toy Federation Podcast, your ultimate destination for all things action figures, collectibles, and pop culture! In this episode, we dive deep into the fascinating world of action figures and collectibles, highlighting some of the worst action figures ever made, sharing behind-the-scenes stories of celebrity signings at our store, and exploring beloved franchises like Batman, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Vintage Star Wars, and Marvel Legends.
Join the Toy Federation staff as we embark on a nostalgic journey through the world of action figures, shining a spotlight on the toys that didn’t quite hit the mark. In this episode, we specifically examine the infamous Mission Impossible action figures, discussing why they failed to resonate with collectors and what makes them stand out (or not) in the crowded market of action figures.
Worst Action Figures Ever Made: Mission Impossible
The Mission Impossible action figures are often cited as some of the worst action figures ever produced. We delve into the reasons behind their lackluster reception, from poor design and questionable likenesses to the overall quality and playability. Whether you're a collector who remembers these figures or a new fan curious about toy history, this segment is packed with interesting insights and humorous commentary.
    Celebrity Signings at Toy Federation
One of the highlights of Toy Federation is our amazing celebrity signings. In this episode, we reminisce about the incredible experiences we've had hosting legends like Mick Foley, WWE Hall of Famer, who brought his unique charisma and stories to our store. We also discuss our exciting events with actors from the iconic Halloween movies, providing fans with unforgettable memories and exclusive autographs. These events not only celebrate the stars but also bring the community together, creating lasting bonds among fans and collectors.
Iconic Franchises: Batman, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Vintage Star Wars, and Marvel Legends
Our podcast wouldn’t be complete without discussing some of the most iconic action figure franchises:
    Batman
Explore the evolution of Batman action figures from their earliest days to the highly detailed collectibles we see today. We talk about the highs and lows of Batman toy lines, favorite figures, and the impact of the Dark Knight on the toy industry.
    G.I. Joe
G.I. Joe has been a cornerstone of action figure collecting for decades. We discuss the history of these real American heroes, their cultural significance, and some of the most memorable figures and playsets that have captured the imaginations of fans worldwide.
    Transformers
Transformers action figures have transformed (pun intended) over the years from simple converting robots to intricate collectibles. We cover the various lines, key characters, and the enduring popularity of these robots in disguise.
    Vintage Star Wars
No toy discussion is complete without Vintage Star Wars figures. We reminisce about the original Kenner line, the rarest figures, and the ongoing legacy of Star Wars toys. Whether you’re a vintage collector or new to the galaxy far, far away, this segment is sure to delight.
    Marvel Legends
Marvel Legends has redefined what collectors expect from action figures. We explore the history and development of this line, highlighting some of the most iconic and sought-after figures, as well as the impact of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the toy industry.
    Join the Conversation
At Toy Federation, we believe in celebrating the joy of collecting and the stories behind each figure. In case you didn’t know, Warrington Gillette only played Jason at the end when he jumped through the window. The rest of the scenes were with Steve Dash (the real Jason from Part 2.) Warrington kept complaining about the makeup and quit/more or less fired after two weeks of filming. If Jason is wearing the sack, it’s not Warrington. That’s why I find it despicable when he signs photos where Jason is wearing the mask.

Someone has probably already mentioned it above but yeah with regards to CYBORG, Cannon had already spent $1 million on the sets for MOTU2 and when it fell through, hastily got Albert Pyun to knock up a script to utilise these sets, and that became CYBORG. Pyun’s original cut was a fat more “artistic” and downbeat affair - titled SLINGER, which has had a Blu release in Germany, I think - and was completely recut I believe by JCVD to make it more of an action film and that’s what got released as CUBORG…

Years old and more and you are expecting mint to near mint to get price. Thats perfectly fine, but as the line ages there will be a small and small portion of mint non repro. Either buyers or sellers are going to have to change expectations or you’ll have a small market to make money on the top items

I went through some many of the same issues obtaining my 83/87 MLC: Arah collection & still do when adding pieces but only folks who have actually dealt with toys on the dealer level would understand.

Aw man, I had a couple of Last Action Hero and Demolition Man toys I thought they were awesome lol. I remember a Last Action Arnie has a spring arm to throw dynamite and bits of like rebar, that was awesome. Another one just had like a laser gun haha ok maybe that one wasn't as good. Demolition man I remember looking like swat and having a ridiculously large cannon/machine gun thing.
Not sure I remember any outright bad toylines.. I guess the Duke Nukem toys... I had the whole line bought on clearance... they looked great, build quality is dismal. Leg joints broke in all the dukes, octo brain tentacles fell off and deteriorated, the only one I have left is pig cop, and even his tail fell off.
Some of the star wars toys around about 10 years ago I bought for my kids were bad quality wise, I wondered if they were bootlegs they looked pretty jank, but they were legit. They seem to have quality back now based on the ones I've seen in shops recently though.

One reason I can see putting multiples out is for troop building. There may be someone that would buy 2 or 3 VAMPS at once. Some would buy as many Stormtroopers, Cobra Soldiers, or Horde Troopers as they could get their hands on. Others may collect one figure, so they'd buy up multiple Skeletors.

I'd have to say the WaterWorld action figures by Kenner have to be considered among the worst. There is just no market or desire even after 30 years. Plenty on ebay sealed and cheap. They aren't even bad figures, they look decent and all have cool working weapons like the Jurassic Park figures (also by Kenner). There just isn't anyone out there looking to add them to their collection.

GI Joe Snake Eyes movie is a line of toys no one likes. They can't sell those toys even at discounted prices. I like to know if you guys have been seeing an uptick of people bringing in their collections lately. Especially with the tightening of people's finances.

I def can confirm their customer service, I come in couple times a month or so and bring just random non-expensive trades and they greet, don’t put down the item at all no matter if it’s a $5 trade and they know I go to x-men and wrestling

People that think you’re not giving the right value are not toy collectors it seems. If you were to give out what you paid for on each item then others watching that own that item will have this assumption that there item is also worth that. Which you pointed out not every item although the same could be missing or have that broken part that gives it that value.

playmates had some wonderful single run toy lines. Dick Tracy, Toxic Crusaders, Earthworm Jim, Darkwing Duck, Talespin…. all awesome, all 1 and done. HOWEVER! Varner studios did make more sculpts for future toxic crusaders waves, including snailman and Yvonne. yvonne ended up becoming the rooted hair reported April in tmnt

enjoy the podcast but it needs some structure or it just turns into complaining about people not understanding how they price things. Do something like toy line no one knows about or the most popular modern figures today or the coolest stuff they traded for this week. They have this knowledge throw some of it out, and maybe not star wars or marvel but other lines people don't know about.
