For the half of married that “last”, most of those ppl wouldn’t stay together if it weren’t for the kids, the high cost of divorce, the financial dependancy one(or both parties) have on the other, health issues ( dependency on an adult care giver) , the convenience of heavily discounted domestic services, social stigma of divorce, and heck, some ppl stay because they are afraid to be split from their beloved pets they share with their spouse. Most ppl do not stay together for love. There is no such thing as a “one true love”. There is no such thing as “there is somebody for everybody”. Not everybody deserves or is entitled to love. What most ppl do is settle for what they can get at the moment then “upgrade” if and when “better” comes along. Think about it. When a woman escapes an abuser where is she likely to go for refuge? Family and friends, right? where is the abusive ex turning up next? Women everywhere would be better off figuring out how to self regulate, self satisfy, and obtain fulfillment, companionship, and happiness outside of requiring a romantic relationship. If ppl did that, heart break wouldn’t cause so much suffering and trauma. Children would be safer. And everyone would be happier. Relationships require work and even with effort are difficult to maintain. Ppl here are not looking to make their lives harder but to be free.
