My absolute favorite thing is when sassy!Ben comes out. He's impervious to bullshit in his kitchen and can more than hold his own while still sporting a good-natured smile. 😊

Ben is an independent chef who don't need no Jamie
although porridge does not have gluten it often gets contaminated with gluten in production so always check the label for certified gluten free oats if your have a problem with gluten

That was my first thought as well, i hope they are using gf oat (clean oat as we say in Sweden). And OMG poor her, that sucks so much to i hope she punched Ben in the arm!

The good thing about type 1 over type 2 is you can still eat whatever the hell you want.
+MrGreenYeti i wouldn't say that. type 2 can usually be managed, some even claim reversed, with proper diet. While type 1 can't, people with type 1 are stll encouraged to eat a healthy balanced diet that is not too heavy in carbs
Sira Mea Nah, if lifes fucked you over by giving you type 1, the least you can do is eat what you want.
I have type 1 and as long as I inject for what I am eating and count the carbs correctly I am usually okay. Sometimes certain foods can mess with your blood sugar more than others though

This is so much better than the regular videos! It feels so much more genuine (the regular videos feel scripted), also I'm a fan of the increased length. Just want to clear up that I love the regular videos as well, but this format is a massive improvement, keep up the good work guys.
It's so nice seeing them candid like this -- especially Ben! The friendship/banter aspect of Sorted is my favourite so it's always nice when we have a little extra

I love flap jacks. Mum made them when I was a kid, now I make them. I use malt extract or golden syrup in lieu of caramel. I also make them thinner so they come out of the oven crispy.
You guys should live stream once a week or fortnight with a recipe. Your banter is tops and would easily fill the gaps when your waiting on something to cook!

As a precaution before cooking with oats (if you are siliacs or gluten intolerant) always make sure it's labeled gluten free!
If you aren't sure what someone with siliacs can't have just remember BROW rhyme: Barleys, Rhys, Oats, and Wheats. These are things you cannot eat! BROW!

Regarding all the comments about the oats... Oats are/aren't gluten free. They just have a protein in them INCREDIBLY similar to gluten so Aussie coeliacs avoid cause we have the strictest labelling.

Not sure how it is in the UK, but in Sweden, oats and wheat are often grown in the same or adjoining fields, causing traces of gluten in oats which can cause problems for people with celiac disease of other forms of gluten intolerance.
So if you're from Sweden and want to make this for a friend or family member who needs to stay gluten free, make sure to get guaranteed gluten free oats!

Whether or not oats are gluten free is actually under a fair bit of debate - some people, like my coeliac sister, have severe reactions from eating oats. Just worth bearing in mind if you are allergic :)
Yes! In Australia coeliacs are told to avoid oats along with wheat, barley, rye, and malt. I know different countries have different standards for what can be labelled gluten free, but I definitely get sick if I eat them too.
Oats themselves are gluten-free. The issue with them is that 1. Most factories that process oats, also process wheat products and don't do a good job of keeping them separate. 2. Oats can actually absorb gluten from the soil they're grown in, if a glutinous plant was previously grown there.
Basically. They're little jerks, those oats.
I also get a bad reaction to oats. I'd substitute oats for quinoa flakes!
If everything else fall flat and I have to open a Café (which is now my "plan D"... you know, after plan B and plan C...) I'll call it "The Rainbow Whisk Café"...

Thank you so much for doing something that is gluten free! I commented a few weeks ago that it'd be really nice to see more gluten free stuff for coeliacs and even though I don't think you saw it, I'm glad there was something anyway. xx
oats contain a protein very similar to gluten, some Coeliacs are still sensitive to oat gluten.. check it out with your doctor first, you might need to have blood tests to check you can tolerate oat gluten :)

The Maillard reaction is technically between amino acids( what makes up protein) and sugars, so not between starch.

I've seen people deal with gluten reactions, it's not nice and definitely not comfortable. God Ben, call yourself a chef, hope you made it up to her afterwards! :P
