  • Fallout New Vegas has quite the epic arsenal of various firearms. The vast majority are based directly on real world firearms, but the developers made a lot of mistakes when implementing them into the game. In this video I go over all the details that they got wrong about the guns in New Vegas.

    Whoops I committed blasphemy!
Here's some clarifications and corrections bc y'all gonna out nerd me in the comments.
The M1887 also has a 10 gauge variant. No 20G though
Yes there are some custom AR-15s with side charging handles, but those are the exception, not the rule. Plus it's cursed. And No, the service rifle is not based on the .308 AR-10 at all. The shape of the receiver and furniture is completely different. It's very clearly a 5.56 M16 with wood furniture. The AR-10 doesn't have wood furniture btw, it's just brown fiberglass.
Apparently after decades of wear and tear, the M1 Garand's bolt may stop automatically closing during a reload, so perhaps that part checks out after all. (I'm just going off what some people said in the comments for this one)
The bolt on the cowboy repeater clips through the rear sight when cycling the action. Literally unplayable
Your character holds the AMR with a traditional rifle grip, despite it having a pistol grip. Completely missed that detail oof

@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 Vindicator minigun probably. The one that uses fancy futuristic-looking AP ammo. If I remember correctly it either has longer bursts or allows to shoot more times per reload. Longer/more frequent bursts mean higher DPT and you can easily dispatch crowds of enemies per 1 turn due to how "spread" on bursts works.
Bozar on the other hand shoots bursts of 15 rounds and requires you to spend Action Points on reloading after 2 bursts. I think it uses cheaper ammo and is somewhat easier to get and feed when it comes to cash.
Gauss weaponry could be good too. Since you can build a character that's capable of firing a Gauss Pistol half a dozen times or so per turn into eyes or groin of your enemy.
Perhaps some energy weapons are also good but they always felt underwhelming so I can't say for sure.

A lot of the animation weirdness comes from the limited number of animations available due to engine limitations. You got La Longue Carabine right - it reuses the reload of the BB Gun, because there was no available reload animation for a toploader that wouldn't have had very obvious clipping with the scope. Oddly enough, having shot , and known those who have shot more, the M1. The infamous M1-Thumb... It's not really a thing. Your thumb hinges, not stretches. The only way you could do it, under normal use, would cause problems getting the clip to lock in. You would have to be pushing down on the noses of the rounds, and basically shove your thumb into the chamber. In the normal place you shove, the bolt pushes your thumb out of the way. If you know how .50 Beowolf came to be it was meant to be used on a swapable upper for the M4 and M16 for the military to use as a checkpoint rifle. The idea was to use a cartridge that could potentially disable a vehicles engine. I can’t think of a single rear charged rifle in the series. Considering the modeling in NV, it feels more like a design choice than a simple mistake. Due to the global shortages of petroleum, the manufacture of polymers would be very limited and much more costly. From the looks of it in original game it seems that it's either some sort of .22 hornet derrivative (Which makes sense history-wise, cartridge was studied for implementation in actual army rifles before the rimmed rounds ditch), but armor properties seem to look at certain modifications. The closest IRL counterpart that comes to mind is little known 4.5×26mm MKR cartridge, essentially a .22 winchester round necked to an aerodynamical pornography of 4.5mm bullet. Quick note on the M1 Garand loading operation:
Most M1 Garands didn't close on their own after a clip was inserted into the magazine of the firearm, it was usually due to poor maintenance, a dirty gun, or general wear and tear on the internals that caused this. So out of the box, the M1 Garand is *supposed* to be loaded via inserting a clip, and smacking the charging handle forwards to assist it into battery, as the bolt was supposed to stay locked back unless operated in any way.
Another note as well for the Marksman Carbine. The reason why it's a "Marksman Rifle" despite being so short is for it's flexibility, as this carbine configuration was usually outfitted with a reflex sight, rather then an ACOG, *although* an ACOG could be utilized as a reflex sight, due to some models of the ACOG having backup iron sights on the top of the scope, like ow it's partially modeled ingame. It's based on a real rifle configuration used for a time by the Air Force, I believe.

6:05 “…And as far as we know, Filipinos don’t exist in Fallout.”
Meanwhile here I am playing a Fallout game with a Filipino-ethnic character that also makes great use of his 2A rights. This isn’t only because of representation sake by the way because I happen to be Filipino myself. But it’s also because I’m writing a book that has this protagonist which I’ve created him through Fallout 4’s character creation along with the wonderful mods that we have access to.
The book is called “The Road Ranger” and it’s about a young former Army Ranger veteran who wants to reconnect with his parents after serving/fighting for six years as a conscript. Although things were going well in the beginning, things slowly take an ugly turn after his mother and stepfather are going through a bad patch and weeks later, his mom is shot dead by a sniper which is the catalyst of the story’s main events. He tries to let the police do their job but after his lady friend, *hint hint wink wink* an FBI agent Maria Garcia, tells him they decided to not go through the investigation despite her best efforts on his behalf, Matt decides to take matters into his own hands by looking for the murderer himself and kill anyone who gets in the way.
The story is inspired by The Punisher but also carries heavy inspirations from Fallout. Mainly being the world the characters live in like their hometown of Calivada which is California and Nevada as one country after an apocalyptic event, and his sleek black full-body armor which is described to be a full set of tactical gear but his helmet strongly resembles the NCR Veteran Ranger helmet. And he rocks the M4 Carbine SOPMOD as his primary and the Glock 19 Pistol as his sidearm.
By the way, his name is Matt Santos which is inspired by the biblical Saint Matthew who is known to have a thick skin personality which is something Matt Santos also has. He’s described having light-brown skin and almond-shaped eyes which is very prominent with Filipinos. Along with an athletic bodybuild which reflects his experience as a former elite soldier. As a citizen of Calivada, he exudes American-like qualities like with the way he speaks.
Edit: Although Matt Santos is the protagonist of the story, the name of the Road Ranger is not mentioned by word until the very end of the story.

You said you have a 3080 in an old Fallout 4 video, right? You might want to check out New Vegas Reloaded, it’s a graphical mod that adds shadows to the wasteland. I also have a 3080, and it runs decently after some configuration (65-80 FPS)

I don’t know if anyone has said this yet but the bolt not closing immediately after pushing the enblock in on the battlefrifle (m1 garand) really makes since if the rifle hasn’t been cleaned or greased up. It was a common thing to manually push the bolt forward on the Garand in unfavorable conditions, like the a dusty wasteland. Loved the video and new Vegas tho :)

I believe the 5mm round of Fallout is based on 5.56x30mm MARS en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_MARS from late 1990s
It was an experimental round designed for PDWs and carbines created by shortening the case of 5.56x45. Compared to then-standard 5.56 NATO round, if both were fired out of 10.5in barrel, the MARS bullet was just about 100-120fps slower, but with much less muzzle report and lower recoil.

The All-American decal error is from one of a million visual mods that never got fixed or it’s inherent to the PC build of NV because it’s fine on Xbox and I only noticed these errors on guns with attachment and resolution mods installed on PC. The ammo might might be wrongly because of how much more powerful it is compared to the auto rifle and that’s why the cap is smaller and the gun is semi-auto (while all guns lack fire selection) while they intended it to be 5.56 originally but it just worked with exactly how abundant 5.56 would be in game for balancing; just imagine it’s in .308 (that is to say like the modern gun). “Marine Carbine” may as well be the unofficial name of the M4A1 since the Marines got it first. But what bothers me about the AR’s is that the DMR and the Assault Carbine are literally the same gun (the CAR-15) but the auto is the original from the 70’s and 80’s while the DMR is a model from the late 90’s with attachments from the 2000’s and the “reflex sight” is some sort of miniature targeting optic like the next Gen Vortex scope for the MCX Spear. That component came out this decade. It’s like they forgot they didn’t want guns to exceed the 20th century and then made next gen technology from what would’ve been the future but definitely wasn’t too exotic to have in limited capacity and shoved it into Fallout’s sci-fi index. If they were gonna throw modern guns and computers into the experimental or lost/liquidated categories, they could at least have established that for the sake of the argument about it. Also somehow the NCR has to mass produce wooden furniture for M16A1’s but has a maintained stock of newer AR’s and while they do save them for special forces and the wooden 60’s guns are easier to maintain on the fly why don’t we see normal troopers using the CAR-15 models even at Hoover Dam where it’s just the dam garrison and some Rangers holding out but the Legion has their own rifles, scavenged but deployed in great numbers? Then there’s the Survivalist’s rifle which is an AR-10 which was apparently a pre-war hand me down rifle for NG units. Why is it even necessary if you have more abundant rifles and the guy using it wasn’t green? Why does it look like an M16A1 and how is it chambered in .50 BMG?

  • @deltazero7262
    @deltazero7262 10 месяцев назад +7

The 5mm cartridge I’ve always decided it was 5.7mm just simplified plus it explains why the 5mm cartridge naturally has -10 defense implying AP capability
And the 12.7mm for the Survivalist rifle is SUPPOSED TO BE the .50 Beowulf

2:57 Also in the Fallout timeline, plastics were used much less pre war than in our world. That's why you can find glass syrgines and soda bottles. So using polymers in guns may not have been a thing pre-war, they'd have still been steel. A wooden furtinture would be lighter but less durable. However it would also get less hot or cold on the wooden parts after being hostlered on the back of a trooper for hours under the mojave sun or desert night. I'm not sure whether or not it would be cheaper. Trees don't fare very well being nuked, and it takes centuries for them to grow. While iron and carbon just stay in the ground. But I would buy the circumstances of material manufacture and reclimination making it cheaper. I can't see the NCR spending more money to make a gun that's more user friendly.
