Hi Duane, I learned you installed a 180/70/16 onto the stock 3.5 rim. But apparently the total height of the tire got more than the original 150/80/16 since the tire is a bit pushed onto the small 3.5 rim. Do you think a 180/65 would match the original height, or would a 180/60 gets even closer to the total height of the original stock tire. I totally have no clue how much more the height of the 180/70 tire was on your bike, hence my question. Thanks for any response on this one. And thanks for your great videos, very inspiring 🙂. Luke
Hi Luke, at 1.10 you get an idea of how much taller it is. I did notice the taller gearing a little, but It still performed awesomely as the motor has so much torque anyway. A 16-tooth sprocket of the front will make it closer to the original gearing. The only trouble you may have with going to a lower profile is that it may stretch a bit and get closer to the chain. I have seen a 180/65 fitted and I have heard of people fitting a 185! The Facebook page or Forum may give you some closer answers.
I'm not sure about the speedo. I haven't noticed any difference in it. I think it gets a speed signal from the ABS, front, rear or both. Not sure, I need to look into this. Cheers have a great day!
Hello Sir. I wonder if you used the original wheels? And if you change the 180/70/16 rear tire, and then keep the front tire unchanged, does it have any impact on the riding experience and safety? Finally, what model should I choose if I want to change the 170-width rear tire?
I do still have the standard wheels and the standard 120 front tyre. It rides fine. It is a little taller geared, so that might be something to consider choosing a profile for a 170. Hope this helps!
@@brownco_customs So we don't like to change the rim or the whole wheel to use wider tires. But do we need to change the gear configuration for this?May I know what profile is used on the rear wheels of your 180/70/16?
I kept the standard rims for budget and to show that it can be done. Gear ratios are totally up to your preference. The profile is 70. Which means 70% of the width 180.
I haven't had any issues and plenty of other people have fitted them with no issues. Avon probably advises against it as it changes the intended profile.
I believe the swing arm is the same so I would say it probably would fit. Don't take my word for it though. Do some research to make sure that the swing arm is the same.
Hey mate how so the Avon cobras handle grip and kms wise? As I'm in the market for a new tyre on my America. Also have a video on my channel of why my bike needs a tyre haha ruclips.net/video/W7issfx11gg/видео.html
Your dog told you you need a new tyre! I have never had a problem with grip as you can see from the drag racing videos. The tyre I have just replaced has done 16,000 K's. It was not worn out but flat in the middle from commuting.
Respect you.u answer very fast
I have been using the 170/70-16 for my bike for 4 years. This video should have published earlier, so I cound be more confident to go with the 180
A few people have said that. Always next time😉
Awsome video, what brand is this tyre? You used the same type tyre at front and rear, just diferent sizes?
Cheers from Brazil!
Avon Cobra Chrome. The front is the stock Bobber Black Avon cobra.
Thank you! This is informative, just want to aak what is the size of the rim you used.
It’s the standard rim.
Great video, greetings from NYC. Are you. still using the stock tube or did you make it tubeless ?
Greetings. It still has a tube in it.
What's the widest we can go on Bonneville Bobber front. I am more interested in front tyre
I'm not sure. I know people have put a 180 on the front. Not sure if that is on the standard rim or not.
Thanks for the info! Looks great!
@@dadsdriveYT No worries, cheers!
I wanted a 180 but would go the way of Kineo wheels to go with a wider rim. I think they are 4.25 instead of the stock 3.5.
Will certainly look fatter!
@@brownco_customs just worried about chain clearance
The chain doenst slack against the tire while riding ?
No it’s all 👍
Did it trip any codes for abs or traction with the wider tire?
No, it's all good.

Have you researched or played with the front tire sizes yet?
Not yet, that will be in the future.

As per Avon is the 180 Tyre not allowed on an 3.5 Wheel ?! Any issues Sir recorded? I want to change the tyre as well but I am afraid.
I haven't had any issues and plenty of other people have fitted them with no issues. Avon probably advises against it as it changes the intended profile.
How does it affect the speedo? Over or under.
It doesn't really effect it in any noticeable way.
If i use 180 55 17 with a 5.5 inch wheels maybe dont work ? So close to chain ?
Not sure
Would a better fit be a 180/65 16?
I went for the 70 because a 65 may get a bit wider at the walls and cause clearance issues.
@ thanks for the advice .. was about to order a tyre, might hold off until I’m 100% certain
Can u send me the specs of the rear tire
180/70R16 77V is this the kind of tire u installed.. sorry im new wd thi. Thanks

Will it fit 180/55-17” without any modification for the rear? Thank u in advance 🙏🏻
Not on a 16" wheel no. A 180/55 16 may fit but I think it would be closer as the lower profile may stretch it out a bit.
Do you think a 180 will work on a thruxton??
My old Thruxton had a 160 as standard so I don't see why not. I have no experience with fitting a 180 to a Thruxton though.
Is yours a Bobber black or just a Bobber?
Bobber Black. I think it's only the front wheel that is bigger than the normal Bobber.
Do you know if it fits with the oem fender on it?
Yes, I have the OEM fender on mine.
how much wide can i put on the front?
Im not sure how big you can go but you can get wider triple trees to fit wider wheel and tyre combinations.
does on a speedmaster?
I believe the swing arm is the same so I would say it probably would fit. Don't take my word for it though. Do some research to make sure that the swing arm is the same.
@@brownco_customs Where we able to find out of the swing arms are the same?
