I'll go out on a limb a say this case will probably never close until the world records are gone, steroids have ruined athletics, if when we see a brilliant performance or world record automatically people will say that person must be on something and it's all because of that era in sport.

.. after 20 years it doesn't matter, huh? This is coming from someone who was not victimized, doesn't feel the irreversible physical pain every day caused by others.

Well they should be. Not because they knew they cheated but because they're doctors did. All the athletes who came second to them should get they're medals and world records should be erased.
It's a shame on the IOC that this has not happened when all the proof is now here.

More like 35 years, and I will not see any kind of remorse from Kornelia Ender, or any of the others in the East German Clan.

The athletes in the US didnt have the help or advice of doctors like other countries did so they just used "supplements" without any trained help. Unfortunately the more is better technique was used alot of the times. Get strong and then learn a skill is not the best way to achieve greatness. I would say HS football coaches in the US are probably more guilty than anybody of starting weightlifting too early in a young persons athletic career.

@tripleheshy You have got your head in the sand. We cheated as heavily as the GDR in the 80's in all sports but especially in athletics, 50 athletes tested positive in the 1984 olympics trails ... 34 at the games, it was all covered up. Many of these were working with east german coaches (on their drug programs).

Is any body surprised, that these coaches are not sorry. They are not the victims, but these swimmers and track and field stars are.

West Germany also did it. So it was a thing both Germany did. Although it was not a state policy like in the GDR, the Federal Republic of Germany also did search on new drugs. In 1966, three players of the West German team were found with Ephedrine in their blood.

The same things happened in the west, and still happens in the west, in all countries, only perhaps a little less clumpsily. They do not want to investigate further because they are afraid of a flood of accusations also in the western countries, and indeed about things going on right now.

Doping in and of itself isn't a big deal. Sooner or later, most sports programs will be affluent enough that all athletes will be doped to some exent. It's OVER-doping that has caused problems, in addition to lack of sufficient testing and safety protocols.
As far as I'm concerned, the GDR paved the way for the future of sports.

Heidi Krieger underwent sex reassignment surgery and changed her name to Andreas by only herself.years of doping left her with many masculine traits
people should acknowledge that East Germany was so successful and well-disciplined at sports, also without dopings.
ravenous coaches and steroids have ruined athletics it is the extremum point and the tragic end but the same situation was recognised for other countries,Tom Simpson is just an example..

The East German regime was sure horrible towards their citizens. In my opinion, they were up there with North Korea.

Both West Germany and East Germany did doping in cold war.

The fact that east germany, and also USSR, were doping athletes was well known when it was going on. Ask anyone who paid attention at the time.
