@@Andrewotte-e4k When he switched off doing the art, people worried. But Jorge's killing it. I'm sure it'll be similar for the writing. They won't let it go into bad hands.
Check out DWJ's youtube streams, he's always highlighting the tools he's using. Atleast half of everything he's saying in this video I've heard him already said in his streams.
Tremendous video. The perfect intersection of passion, knowledge, and being compelling in an unusual way on camera. I'd watch him wax on about pens for hours.
I deeply enjoy these videos! Im still amateur at drawing but, playing with new tools and experimenting is super fun. I’ve made the local stores very happy 😅 got myself similar version of these (Rottring, posca and Faber-Castell) Thanks for the recommendations!
Some of the stuff he doodles to show off the pen has a muscle memory flow to them. I don't know if that's 100% the case but its fun to watch and think what it might be. Like hearing the first 2 seconds of a song and guessing what it might be.
@@DanielWarrenJohnson1 Agree I find it runny and translucent maybe I got a crap one but they're not cheap so I stick with the uniball. Would LOVE for some new white pen to break onto the scene though lol. I'm really tempted to try that white out pen just for the opaque thickness.
@@DanielWarrenJohnson1 Dude...how in the h*ll do you keep those Uniballs from gunking on the tip!? Lol I use basic Microns and Pentel Brush Pens and yes, I wait a few minutes to allow for drying before using the Uniballs but to no avail 🙄 I even wipe the tips with alcohol wipes occasionally lol
I've definitely bought an assortment of brush pens cuz I saw Kim Jung Gi using them. The only one I really like is the Pentel Sign Brush Pen. Its gotta really fine nib and is the easiest for me to control. Sadly, its not waterproof.
I have never seen that 10-point divider before. It looks like some sort of torture device 😅 but i am intrigued by how it works, so im off to go see that. 👀
Been working on illustration for 15+ years, and everything I do since... 2015? is pretty much 100% digital. I am really trying to relearn traditional now (I completely lost it and it sucks to suck at it, but oh well) and this is, in no small part, YOUR fault, DWJ. Thank you :)
That's great to hear! Both digital and traditional have their strengths and keeping both of those skillsets polished is a great idea. Plus, having a traditional drawing of your own to look at feels gratifying! Good luck with it!
lifehack: Pentel brush pen ink container can be refilled easily with acrylic ink, using syringe and needle. The pentel ink, that comes with the pen itself tends to be sticky and clogg the brush, so don't be affraid to try other inks.
It can be! Some of these tools have overlap and might be useful/less useful to you, depending on your style and preferred techniques. See what sticks and give away the rest!
i really love the opacity of holbein acryla gouache. wondering if it could be watered down a bit and put into a brush pen. or by adding a fluid acrylic medium and possibly a pigment dispersion for better opacity. i’m a painter tho and not an inker
Huh. Didn't think anybody used Neox lead with how smudgy it is, let alone in 2B. I always figured that combo would gunk up your inking tools long before they actually ran out of ink.
Man inking is so Amazing. I need to learn how to do this well. I am just using graphite atm and it just isnt the same. Oil seems to be the best way to really make the details standout. Ps i dont like macron pens. Maybe its me not knowing how to ink or i just lack confidence.
Why isn't there a permopaque marker?? Lol It has a wide felt bullet point and a kind of chisel on the opposite side. It is quickdrying, light-fast ink that blends seamlessly with micron pens and faber castel pens. It lays down a decent bit of ink coverage for broader lines and shapes and is good for shadows.
Like the use of screentones, they fall in and out of fashion regularly. Artists with a greater drafting background would use them more but they have a solid place for a stylistic approach or for those straight lines in mechanics and architecture. An artist who's used them to great effect, even on organic forms, is Cliff Chiang. It gives his work a very specific feel.
Here's a video where inker Mark Morales covers some tools he uses, including his ink, nibs and a couple handy tricks that he pairs with his ink. You might find it more interesting than if I just told you an ink brand here: ruclips.net/video/862pfBBB3cQ/видео.htmlsi=c_JbvhEpbNCDP9Bc
We have a video with Karl Kopinski you might find useful! Happens to me too. My advice start each page with something you like and are comfortable drawing and that would remove the blank page shock. Then follow through with some reference practice and gesture poses or anatomy practice. Then you'll find you gradually ease into it and pages start flowing. Hope that helps :)
I draw on paper and colour digital and I COULD NOT find a good paper-pen combo for inking. Everything I used created messy lines. Discovered Procreate on iPad and never looked back.
what converter does he use for the pilot parallel pen? ive been looking at some online but it doesnt seem like they come with their own converter and i wanna use my own ink.
Great video anyone have experience with the presto white out pen I mainly use bic pens how does it handle being drawn on does it peel or chip away any insight would be appreciated
If you're home, you can use Pro White, like he mentions. But for something that's super portable, the Presto is GREAT. You can draw over it without issue.
Hi, I'm a beginner. if i can only buy one graphgear 1000 pencils. what size lead do you recommend. if i could only buy one. and if I can afford to buy the next one. What size lead do you recommend?
You just type in those words on Google, Etsy, Amazon or wherever you often find your shopping. There's also a cost effective option that does a lot of what this does called a "sewing gauge" if the prices you find for that seem too high.
