You and your channel is always so inspirational and educational. I love your excitement for showing and teaching growing. You do an absolutely great job! Thank you so much!
Thanks Skylar! I talked to a few others that use leachate recently, and said they've been doing that for years and love it. Not all leachate is created equal as well.
Very informative. You are very thorough and fair and make sure we got everything we need to know to make an informed decision. I have a worm bin so the "lichy" liquid castings is what I use and always works wonders. Oh when the ginger blooms it is a cause for jubilation. Always always a gift and very grateful. Love you channel dear one. You have so much to share.
Hi Wendi, I was so happy to meet you and John at the Heirloom Exposition in Ventura. The 2-hour drive was well worth it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge here; it helps me a lot. Thank you 😍
"Galangal" is the common name of several different types of gingers. Alpinia galanga is the traditional ginger referred to most as "galangal". What you're growing and showing here is Hedychium coronarium, more commonly know as the white "butterfly ginger". While also edible both in rhizome and flower, this isn't the galangal most people will use for cooking. It is, however, one of my most favorite tropical flowers because of its captivating scent! Sadly, it is considered invasive in places like, Hawai'i and other tropical regions.

Thank you my friend. I'm grateful for you to be here. :)
Beautiful Galangal! I agree, I think certain plants tend to react well to leachate and others might not. Great video!

@@wendiland Very true...my extra is diluted with a larger compost pile. Any tips on leachate/compost particularly for acid-loving plants?

Plants either bloom when they feel stressed or happy. The gingers thankfully look healthy so would agree with you. :) Happy gardening!
I've had great results dumping lots of coffee grounds directly into plant pots.
Yes some gardeners do that and have great results! Glad you do as well! :D

The smell is captivating! Unlike Hawaii, we don't need to worry about being invasive here in the desert. Thanks for clarifying on the ginger!
Wendi you are so knowledgeable!
Thank you :)
That is good news!
It looks like some kind of Hedychium coronarium or white ginger lily.
Yes it is, thanks for clarifying!
Interesting vlog, have you found that ginger keeps flies and ants away?😊
I haven't paid attention to that, but now I'll be more aware of it. :)
Where did you get your Galangal starts?
Many years ago at a farmer's market.
I just add some.mp1 to mine and to my compost tea and go with it seems to work great one everything I've used it on.
💯👍
I think using leachate is a good idea.I don't yet have a worm bin,but have used urine in the garden.Close the loop ! ! !
Is that galangal flower you are sniffing? Isn't that the ginger flowering kind of plant that called camia?
The plant is called Hedychium coronarium, white ginger.
I think when it kills people's plants that's becuase they don't dilute it.
That's possible too. Too much good thing may not always be good. heh
I can't get it to grow at all
If leaving in the light without soil the ginger should start sprouting.
@@wendiland without water?
That is not galangal
