My first thought when watching reviews on this was to spray back into the water supply and recirculate the water while waiting for it to come up to temp.

@@sheri4673 Thanks, I still use this shower on occasion. I also have the bigger unit, the Mr Heater XCW20 that I like the best mostly because the shower head itself has a shutoff on it. I'm going to have to review it someday soon since I get a lot of people asking about it. My house water heater went out this past Christmas weekend, so I used the portable hot shower inside my house, which they don't recommend, but seemed to be fine with a window open to vent it. The portable unit worked great as a backup for the 5 days I was without a water heater. I'm not sure the runtime, I'll have to show that in my next video.

These products have unreliable reviews, many people claiming the unit works a couple of times before failing completely, so difficult to determine if an item is worth it's pricetag with so much garbage coming out of China, any expectation of quality/durability is asking too much! You can change the temperature by the dial AND by the flow valve on the faucet part. That increases flow and temperature. I know we are guys and hate reading every line. Usually I read the manual backwards.

I have a Coleman portable cordless hot water heater on demand in my cargo trailer conversion and it does well but you have to keep the gas to a minimum and everything open ,otherwise you’ll hate your life with the smell of gas but other than that is nice to have a source of hot water.
Interesting, I didn't know Coleman made that. I'll have to look at the specs.

The only thing u need now is something to filter lac/river water. Here in Quebec, as well as in Vermont, a lot of lake and river are contaminated with blue algae

Nice review. I liked that you used mostly stationary, mounted camera shots. Guys who mount their cameras on their heads or use hand-held videos almost give me motion sickness. Great video! Got a big laugh out of both the beginning and the ending. Couple of questions: Did you need a wrench to connect the copper gas fitting? What does the more expensive model have that this one doesn't besides a fancier showerhead?
Thanks, glad you enjoy my humor. No wrench is needed to connect the gas. It's what I would call a wing screw, for a lack of a better term, where you can easily do it by hand. The more expensive model can run on ac or dc power and it has an additional hand faucet, separate from the shower. It also has a digital display, for the temperature. I've planned on making a video comparing the different models. Maybe I'll do it this weekend.

1. What does the battery power? You didn't have the AC connected when testing. Is it to power the pump? If so, how long does a full charge last if the pump was continuously running?
2. Does the AC adapter take 220-240v/60Hz as input?

We're using this in our camper van and it is releasing a lot of CO2. Where is the CO2 coming from? Is there any way I can reroute the CO2 via a tube and redirect elsewhere?
I believe the vent is along the side, near the bottom somewhere. I don't think there's a way to hook a tube up to it.

No shower needed for me, I don't need much motivation to live on the road when it's along M22 (saw your sign on your work bench). Ditto for M119. But definitely ensures my wife will go more.
Portable HOT shower is always nice. I've camped with cold baths 40+ years- never stopped me.
I've scored a shower head with submersible pump on other end of hose which goes into a pot of hot water. $30. WELL worth the 30 bucks considering I have a fire going anyway.. Happy Camping!!

This runs off a rechargeable battery or ac power too. The smaller Mr. Heater version runs off D batteries.

If you didn't buy a portable shower yet, check into the Mr Heater XCW20. I believe it has a shutoff shower head.

Great Video...Rather than run out of water in the source bucket, why not just direct your shower water back into it until it reached temp rather than the other bucket? I've been using a similar tent for 2 years. This year 4 women in our summer cabin visit preferred my Ice fishing tent. Just as quick to set up/break down, the extra elbow room allowed them to undress and dress much more comfortably. Looks like I'm throwing away my broken old heat my own water shower unit and getting me a Mr. Heater.

What was the purpose of the second bucket? If you just put the shower output back into the same bucket it would keep running...
True. I wanted to see how fast the bucket empties.
@@MarkThomasBuilder if you would have run the shower back into the original bucket, the water would have ended up being 'preheated'
@@marceld6061 My guess is that the preheated water still wouldn't get any hotter than the room temperature water. I'll have to test it out sometime and report back.

I've been testing these some more recently and want to make an update video showing some of the other models. So far, I'm liking the XCW the best since it has a shutoff at the sprayer.

To heat a foldable bathtub in camping, i would circle feed the heater with the water in the bathtub itself.
Yes, that will get it much hotter, in fact probably too hot.
Why do you need the 4 D cell batteries if you have the internal battery?

Thanks, the larger model, the XCW20 is the only one that allows shutting off the shower head and restarting it again.
I wish I saw this before I bought the Camplux outdoor shower. This one here has a quick power source hook- up to use the pump when there's no pressurized water supply.
Mr Heater also makes an upgraded version, the XCW20, which is a nice one too.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about this unit. Internal battery and 4 Ds? Will it run from 20 pound propane tanks as one version contains a 12' propane hose? Can it run off 110/120 household current? One place says battery charges off DC from the car. I wish there was more clarity before buying a $200+ unit. Thanks.
Mr Heater makes 3 versions of portable hot water shower heaters. The smallest version has a pump that runs on 4 Ds. The middle size heater, the XW-18 runs off a rechargeable battery or plugs into ac. (Same with the largest one). I think the middle and largest one run off DC from the car too. I've never tried it. As far as I know, you only can run 1lb propane tanks with these. There may be a Mr Heater hose adapter sold separately, but I haven't looked into that.

It seems like it could be used inside however, it's not rated for indoor use. I'm not sure if there are fumes or if it's because of the risk of the heat happening inside the unit.
Looks like a nice unit, but I prefer the Zodi; it's smaller. Zodi also makes a stainless steel Extreme Shower with pump action pressurization, just like in the old fashioned pesticide sprayers. You can use a propane stove to heat it or set it out in the sun and it will be the best solar shower you can buy. It's about $150 without the propane stove set up
That's an interesting design. Any idea how long it takes to heat the water to 90 degrees with propane?

Nice Video, I think I like everything about this product, except the fact that you cannot stop the water flow without having to shut off the unit from the body. I was wondering if there is a way to replace that shower head with a shower head that allows you to stop the water flow from the shower head rather than having to shut it off from the actual unit itself.
I believe the upgraded model, the XCW20 includes that feature. I'm planning on making a video review of that model in a couple weeks.

I spend a couple minutes draining it. I haven't noticed any issues of water left in there to freeze. You could always soak up some RV antifreeze when storing to be safe.
Add an extra step. have a filter for the used water and reuse the same water. Use a gallon and recycle it!

You are exactly correct..I been doing that for over ten years..gallon of water or more if you want, and a 12 volt battery and I always had unlimited showers that lasted as long as I want..we had a big shower tent and me and my girlfriend would shower together ,not to save water but just to add some fun to our camping trip.hehehe..just have to clean the filter!!

One gallon of water with a filter and you have unlimited shower time until your battery runs out of power. You can build a great shower for $100,that's using a cheap or homemade shower tent..

It gets warm/hot fairly quick, like less than 20 seconds I recall.
I'm not so sure about the battery life on these, not to mention the bulk... I'm sure there are cheaper/smaller solutions out there.
The battery life isn't the greatest. I like the ability to plug it in, if you're around power.
I own a couple other Mr. Heater products and when I seen this thought it would be the answer to my remote camping solution for taking a shower. First off, there is no shut off on the shower head to stop water flow for conserving. Secondly, you have to turn on/off the heater from the main unit, meaning you have to either leave it on all the time your in the shower or open your shower tent and turn it on/off, meaning no privacy and inconvenient. Sorry this time Mr. Heater, this one missed the mark.

Ut is the shower head a standard home thread,so when the head goes bad.i can just pick one off the shelf?
I went and looked at it and it appears the handheld part of the shower has a 1/2" MPT with a rubber washer. That part hooks up to the hose and the other end of the hose that goes into the heating unit has a quick connect fitting of some sort.

I’m a truck driver was looking into getting one sometimes it’s hard to get to a truck stop to wash your precious parts lol....3 minutes should be enough to wash your butt and not smell lol....right now I just have a electric pump cheap but the water is cold no way to heat it....it’s all fun n games in the summer but not for winter lol

Glad I watched this, not being able to return the water off at the nozzle would be a deal breaker for me... After using the bag style, it really lowers water consumption... I'm bummed because this was the one I was looking to get :( I'm thinking the instant on version will be the way I go, it relies on flow to start it similar to the on demand in your house. I love the 1lb canister concept but in reality I will have a 20lb on my trailer anyhow. Thanks for a great video!
The bigger Mr Heater shower has a shut off at the head. I believe it's the XCW20.

I Like your video but not the product. I do think it is a good product for what it is intended for but I don't like it because of my planned use for it. I saw this product in someones sckoolie conversion and for many reasons mostly the safety issue it is not a good idea. Your review of this product really helped. Thank you for sharing.

It takes a little while to charge it. I don't think the 5 minutes of charging while taking a shower would make much of a difference.

(its Saturday 12.23 a.m just past mid winter here and its frosty as hell) anyway i just opened the box looked at it and discovered the coleman aint have capability of on / off hot at shower hand price so it seems its gonna be full time on until shower finished, i guess if im desperate for hot water then again i dont want too much functions like start / stop. anyway is there any reliable such units with start / stop at handpiece?.
The Mr Heater XCW 20 has a on/off on the handle as well as an adjustable spray. It's their top of the line unit. I'm putting the video together very soon.

Is that friggin' snow on the ground? There is no way in hell I would be having an outside shower in those freezing conditions. I'm from down under in the North (hot). We shower in cold water half the time just under the tap. that boiler wouldn't sell here... it would have to come with a warning label on it. "Caution: Hot water may be above room temperature!" BTW> NIce '90's suit !!
Haha, yes that's snow on the ground. The temperature warmed up enough that day so I could make the video. The summer temperatures get pretty hot where I live, so the shower is able to be used in ideal conditions.
Lol I literally just took a quick shower last week with one of the solar bag style, didn't even have a tent around me haha, was out in the middle of no where, so no watchers lol. I did throw a tarp up facing the wind too cut that down a bit. Heated some water over the fire to put in the bag to warm it up. I think the bag said 80 degrees lol. 32 outside.
@@DougRowan_photography I've never even seen anyone use those shower tents. They unnecessary. Just hang it on a tree branch and shower in nature.. isn't that why we go out into the bush? to get back into nature?
@@bicanoo_magic3452 I agree for the most part, mostly where I go I don't need anything, however here in Iowa, some of our campgrounds are open but showers/water are closed, which means there are usually no campers however that doesn't mean there aren't people occasionally lol... A couple weeks ago I was washing up in the morning only to look over and see someone walking around the far edge of the campground... This place is out in the middle of no where only a couple farms within driving distance but I guess one of the farmers wives walks lol. The way everything was positioned I wasn't showing anything but still I thought right then maybe I need to have one just in case haha. Usually I just leave shorts on anyhow if I'm somewhere like that. Rare case regardless. Nothing a tarp wouldn't do
@@DougRowan_photography Just use swimmers (Speedo's) and be done with it. Use liquid soap because you know the soap is going to get dirt on it.
Can you hook it up to a water hose with 40psi ?
No, it's made to pump water out of a bucket and disperse it through the shower head.
Can the water pump hose be lengthened without problems
It's a silicone hose. I'm not sure how easy it is to replace or if the pump could handle additional length.
I plan on making one of my rooms of my tent into a bathroom can this be used inside the tent?
It's meant to have the unit outside the tent and the shower head inside.

It appears so with this model. I've been testing the XCW20 model this week and it actually comes with a shutoff on the shower head, which is a nice upgrade.

I'm not sure if you can. The next size up shower, the XCW20, has that feature. I'm hoping to review that within the next week or so.
How is this unit holding up?
It works well. I used it a month ago and was happy with the water pressure and the nice warm water temperature.
I’ve watched lots of videos and the Hottap v2 is farrr superior. Pricier but well worth it

How would you compare to the zodi portable hot shower
I haven't tried the Zodi brand. The Mr Heater XCW20 is my favorite so far because it has a digital temp and it shuts off at the shower head.
@@MarkThomasBuilder so you can control the exact temperature because on the zodi it just has a dial but no idea of actual temperature

I don't recall the time it gave you, but it does last long enough to completely get showered and shampoo your hair.

I don't think it's really necessary. I've just used cold water and it heats it up to a very comfortable warm shower.

This vs Joolca. What I like....uses small propane tank, is small in size, has faucet. What I hate....hoses not long enough, flimsy, no shut off to shower head.

Thanks, the bigger model has a shut off at the shower head. I made another video a few months ago showing the differenced between all 3 Mr Heater portable shower units.

I haven't used this in awhile, but it seemed more like on demand hot water vs having to heat up. I have another review coming soon where I compare this to 2 other models.

It's hard to say what the most likely problem is. If you have a full propane tank and if you tested it first by plugging it in to power and it's still not heating the water, then I'd contact their customer support. If it works that way but not by the battery, maybe it's the battery itself or the battery connections. Hope that helps.

I'm not sure about that. I've mostly used room temperature water.
It only heats water about 40 degrees, so if you start with 32 degree water it will only be about 70 degrees. Start with 70 degree and it will be 110 degree..
