      So true. I saw this episode of 60 minutes recently and they were interviewing a black gentleman who had been wrongly imprisoned on death row for 30 years until 2015 when he was proven innocent and released. They asked him if he was angry, and he said: "No. They took 30 years of my life, but I cannot afford to give them the joy I have left. Being angry would be letting them win. I'm a person that love to laugh and I love to see other people smile, and how can I smile when I'm full of hate?"

      I agree. I tell people all the time, disregard is my hate. I won't hate anyone but I'll completely disregard someone to the point I'll forget their names. That said, I don't have to hate my attacker to defend myself against his/her attack.

      Yvonne Smith or better yet, here is your real American Hero! A man that faced down those trying to oppress him and his people, with no weapons or violence and no way of knowing if he was going to die this time! I hear these people jumping up and down about a flag and the military, but at least the military has weapons and training and a place to lay their head while being backed by the finances of a government! John and his people, our people, didn’t and they still fought! NOW THAT’S HEROIC!!!

      +Sarah Smith Lewis advocated the opposite of Lings belief to not see color. BLM is based on labeling people "white" "black"and such. They are trying to unite, they explicitly say if you don't agree with them then your part of a "problem". They basically say if you don't believe White people are overwhelmingly racist and cops are killing blacks JUST FOR BEING BLACK.
      Its an insane narrative to accept in such a time and requires intense belief in "Whites" being evil and inherently racist.
      King would definetly have been #Alllivesmatter.
      BLM is inherently racist in name! It also is only interested in one race of people. They don't give a shit if a White Male like me dies from Cops. Fuck y'all SJWs.

      +Bukk, I disagree with you. Black Lives Matter, is a nonviolent group that formed out of retaliation against cops indiscriminately killing unarmed black men, and black women. A lot like the Black Panther Party did, decades ago, during the Civil Rights Movement. The 'Black Lives Matter' group is not about being an organized hate group, or terrorists, like the Ku Klux Klan. Do some independent research, man.

    John Lewis - a man of integrity and courage. I have total respect for him and what he is fighting for. I am white and old. I remember when he stood on that bridge. It wasn't easy and he could have walked away. Dogs, policemen and crazed white people jeering and threatening. He stood tall and took the blows that made America finally take a look straight on at naked racism. Thank you, Mr. Lewis. You made America better for your spilled blood.

    I met John Lewis one time when I was pretty young and I can’t remember it all that well because i was so young but i’m still in awe just about the fact that I was in his presence and shook his hand. He is one of the most important civil rights leaders still alive today and he needs to be talked about more often.

      A few years back, when Mr. Lewis was running for re election, He had a car in the Atlanta Pride Parade. (I want to say this was around 2012, or thereabouts), And of course, they had the white convertible with the John Lewis for Congress sign on the door, but he wasn't in the car. He was out on the street, running back and forth across the street, saying hello, shaking hands, talking to people, bending down to talk to some kid, taking a selfie with him, etc, and when his car got a bit up the street, John took off after it at a run. He's got a good 18 years on me, but I remember thinking, I hope I'm in that good a shape when I reach that age.
      I really hope he licks the cancer. We really need him in Congress, especially after loosing Elijah Cummings.

I might recognize a face should our paths cross again but as far as their names; no and Ebay's easy because I suck remembering names anyways. That doesn't mean I'm going around throwing forgivenesses and forgets all over the place either.

    I think Congressman John Lewis deserves a lot of respect for being alongside MLK for fighting for civil rights. Whether you agree or disagree that he endorsed a very unpopular candidate in history. He was part of a movement that says that racism, bigotry, and segregation have no place in America. And I agree when he said that "it's an ongoing struggle", that even though we accomplished a lot in the arena of civil rights, we have some work to do. We need to end the era of mass incarceration, end the "war on drugs", reform the criminal justice system, and restore the Voting Rights Act. It's not gonna happen overnight, it's not gonna happen when a particular candidate is in office, and etc. It takes time, and we need to raise awareness on these issues to all people so that we can pressure our politicians to get those things done, it's not hard. In other words, "THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES"!

      Don't mistake me, I don't just avoid women because I'm terrified that they might also sleep with someone whose skin is more than three shades away on the Dulux colour chart. I merely find socialising tiresome when not surrounded with people who recognise my bravery in being both psuedo-intellectual AND racist.
      What is the hedonistic degenerate pleasure of "bustin a nut" when compared with the courageous liberation of being openly racist online?

      AugustusPugin nope, but between groups differences only add up to 15% of the genetic variance we see within groups (and which would predominantly be superficial and directly adaptive to environment see Lewontin apportionment of genetic diversity). So calling it skin colour is not misleading in a way consequential to the core argument.
      But don't act like logic and reason are why you're a racist twat, please

    Imagine watching this hours after watching John Lewis' funeral today at the Ebenezer Baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia, where some of the finest tributes ever were paid by many distinguished persons who knew this incredible human being. Three former presidents were in attendance and a fourth, President Jimmy Carter sent a letter. The eulogy was delivered by the first black President Barack Obama. Wow! Although we have become accustomed to his great speeches over the years, today's tribute to John Lewis, was exceptional.
    Now, how amazing is it that a country that has produced so many great and bright stars such as John Lewis, MLK, James Baldwin, Malcom X, Farakan, Barack Obama and so many more, that America is in this state of flux today.
    I remain hopeful that a change is gonna come. I hope sooner than later.
    Rest in eternal peace Sir John Lewis.

    What hurts me the most, is that he fought hard all these years for the vote, lived to see Obama in office, and also lived to see Trump in office, and he left from this world where the USA was at this horrible stage. What have the Americans done with their votes for men and great people like John Lewis? Shame on all of you.

    • @mariev6108
      @mariev6108 4 года назад +2

      I know you are not American from this comment. So I will say what I think he would say along with my opinion. With so much hate around today in this country and the world there is still plenty of hope and we must be opportunistic of what is around us. So many are united with this message in our country and the rest of the world this is hopeful and an opportunity to continue to push and make things better. My opinion based on fact is this, the majority of America did not vote for this person in the Oval Office (the outdated electoral college did) nor are we standing for continued injustice like George Floyd and many others that are not mentioned within other minority communities like Hispanics. This is something like Lewis said will have to be constantly pushed to make it better and can take many lifetimes but is necessary for everyone. So there is no shame when you see the unity and a historical opportunity for advancement.

    • @MIMImimi182
      @MIMImimi182 8 лет назад +7

      kevin hood you see it's easy to criticize the current president without actually looking how much of a shithole bush left the country that most people thought it would take longer than it actually did to go back to normal with the war that bush created souly for greed he invaded a country and killed millions of innocent muslim people including women and children only based on the fact that they were a danger which later on was discovered that it was total bullshit, the war and killing of innocent was only for the land and its oil and i get it it's easy for a presidential candidate that is in charge of nothing and doesn't know how hard it is to actually made a choice that important to so lany millions of lives and it's easy to talk shit about two or three flaws ignoring the thousands of wins it's easy... trash talking is easy and it's even easier when you people hanging on to your every word taking it as facts without checking for it's actual truth it's easy but when it comes to someone like trump who has been rich his entire life and never truggle a day in his life or been in a politics in any way and doesn't know what actually is going on in the world rn to an extremely idiotic level, which such conflicted views and his secretly wanting to change politics to suit his motifs is scary bc mostly we don't know what his mostives and his role models are freaking dictators and that is scary for democracy and the fact that he's so good at selling whatever idea he wants to people that don't know better is scary bc those votes counts and those methods won't work with educated world leaders matter of fact they're actually dangerous based on the foreign policies he proposed i mean i could go on forever but some of you supporters of his are so blinded but the ideas that he paints which clearly he's gonna dispose of the minute he gets into office bc it's impossible to actually make happenn that you can't even see logic so i'm done talking to you good luck voting to end america or at least set it years back... see the consequences.. live them in your everyday life then regret it for years to come . goodbye.

You had wisdom, you were fearless, and you were a leader. You fought for so much, to not only give yourself access to rights you should’ve already had, but you gave it to the generations of the future too. Like my mother always said “Never take things for granted,” and knowing how the world is now, I can’t let the opportunities given to me go by. It’d be a disservice to not only myself, but undermined so much you and our people have fought for.

    Mr. Lewis is a true American hero.What he went through in the 60`s was horrendous but ,unfortunately, necessary.
    White people need to learn the truth concerning black history and their endless contributions to this country and
    realize black folks are not the enemy.Only through education & understanding can we end racism.
