I am a RN, just started my first ICU travel job. Soooooooooo much respect to you going from your NP position and going bedside to be an RN. And even more love being a nurse of color as well!!! Kill it, Queen!!!

I’m a nurse also. I agree with you that she deserves respect for going back to the bedside. But - Skin color really doesn’t, and shouldn’t have anything to do with anything. Let’s get past that. We are all made in the same image of God, our skin color is just a shallow physical genetic expression and it’s way past time we act like educated humans (especially as healthcare providers) on this topic.

@@sarahr3747 I appreciate your input. I agree one's race should not matter. I said what I did as a means of encouragement for other people of color to enter the field. I often times am met with resistance and left without a sense of belonging and community when I am on the floor. I honestly do not what care what one's background is, as I am welcoming to all. But when I have heard time and time again from patients that they feel misunderstood and neglected and they tell me why, that lets me know that having that community and commonality amongst those around you is important and that goes for every type of person across the board. I hear you, but I will always encourage for a broadening of all races/ethnicities in nursing :). We can't get past it until we improve upon it.

@@sarahr3747 girl stfu. Yall swear. If you don’t know how much race matters in healthcare you’re crazy. Black RNs are totally treated different. Not trying to discourage anyone but at 50 years of age and, 20 plus years as RN/NP t'was dun with the bedside a long time agO. No one ain't gonna pay me enough at this stage, mmh! mmh! Been done a while. Good luck ya'll! Welcome to paradise should you want to give it a thought. The pay is great and the sunshine is heavenly! I'm excited to see your video! I am also a former ICU RN --> FNP --> RN and now thinking about travelling. One of the things that is a concern to me is being "dump on" given our additional training. I mean...its already happen now at my current job. We have to do group huddles at the beginning of the shift, and more than 80% of the time, I've already predicted my assignment --> the most acute/sickest patient on the ward. Sometime, I wish I only have an ADN/BSN, so I can have less acute patients, and to give the learning experiences for other nurses to "grow". Nevertheless, the reality is that there will be some learning curve, and unfortunately liability is a very real concern. I'm glad you got 2 days of orientation.

You're a crazy boss. :o) Many years ago, I worked nights and also rotating shifts in a different profession. Having a tooth pulled the day before starting a new job working nights is tough. Trying to stick to a healthy diet working nights is doubly tough. Doing both is crazy!

I am 4 weeks into my first contract! Job is around as bad as what my home hospital is like, although I’ve only done night shift so far, day shift I’m sure will be harder. I had 1 day of orientation, which was rough because my orienter was sick with Covid (tested positive the next day). New charting, new people, getting pulled to several new floors each night. It’s a lot, but I’m learning a lot and new ways of doing things! Plus the pay can’t be beat, I plan to continue, my husband and I will be debt free in 8 months! And then as long as the pay is up I plan to do 1-2 contracts a year and then just casual at my home hospital. I hope you enjoy your travel assignment and any future assignments!

I'm a new subscriber. Idk why you were recommended to me? But I'm here for it ! Maybe bc I wanted to be a Nurse when I was younger but chose a career in Banking & Finance instead..which I'm now Medically retired at 46 bc I have something called Transverse Myelitis..its a Neuro condition that's paralyzed me. It's caused by a variety of things. Mine we believe I got when I w a s rehabbing my knee replacement at a facility aka nursing home. I developed an infection caused Pseudomonas.. that made my body attack itself so to speak..I walked in the ER and left 10 mos later! Yes 10 mos!! A new facility wouldn't take a paralyzed overweight person. I was 240 then at 5'8 I'm now 320! Actually having bariatric surgery in December in hopes to lose weight so my husband can either pick me up & put me in the car or I can learn to stand & pivots either way SOMETHING is gonna happen. Now that I told you my LIFE STORY LOL. I did want to be a Nurse (in my next life maybe lol) but I have mad respect for them! Actually know from having may friends that are PA's, NP, & RN's that it's not easy...I believe most due MORE than the Dr's which is crazy bc the Dr's get paid the most! ...anyways I love your channel and can't wait to watch more!!! Much love from Delaware

I didn’t know you could work backwards. Like once you obtain an RN you can never work as a pct or CNA again. But I find it cool that an NP could still work as an RN despite holding a higher license

In NY, many places you still have to clock in even though you’re agency. Just quit my travel job because they dropped the rate and it made no sense to me. Started seeking another one
