I’m a nurse working for an insurance company. I hate it! Healthcare is a business and I barely feel like I’m helping anyone. I’m just telling people all day that they have to pay for service that they don’t get to use. Smh it’s very discouraging
I can only imagine! Thanks for sharing
Girl! I can relate. I worked for an insurance company and it made me extremely discouraged. You’ve got to be a special kind of evil to be of service in this way. What a life 😢
Hi Laurie, I understand your frustration. When it comes to getting insurance for your elderly loved ones it would be wise to also purchase ancillary coverage to cover the cost of hospital stays beyond what their particular insurance type would cover. It typically doesn't cost much. The only caveat is that it has to be purchased prior to any hospital stays, preferably at the time of choosing a plan when talking to an agent.
Thank you for the insight. A lot of folks don’t know these things at all.
I worked at SNF and when the insurance was it was time to discharge, even if the patient didn't have anywhere to go. I remember on one occasion they discharged someone to a homeless shelter 😮.
Its sad that’s how it is in healthcare here .the insurance dictates the care not the provider
Thank you for sharing. I have elderly parents and we really have to be an advocate for our elders and all of our loved ones when dealing with the insurance company’s. I’m a fairly new subscriber and I’ve been enjoying your vlogs🫶🏽
Thanks for the watching. We definitely need to advocate for our elders
So true I work as a nurse case manager in a hospital and it has really opened my eyes… I tell my family and friends that get your long term plan in order because the only people benefiting is the wealthy and Medicaid population.
It’s very sad. I deal with this all the time rounding in the SNF. But they are gonna pay either way because when I discharge a pt home, they are going home with home health PT/ OT and Nursing. And all the DME to ensure their safety at home. Crazy!!
I had the same issue when I worked in SNF and I annoyed the shit outta me! 🤦🏾♀️
Happy Wednesday Everyone and great vlog as always 👍🏾👏🏾🤗❤️
The bottom line is that HMOs would rather pay for home PT/OT vs rehab which would be $700+/day. Elderly folks should stick to Medicare. They give you 100 days vs HMOs who do weekly/biweekly reviews. The minute they see you walk 25-50 ft in PT, they will cut. Also if that patient at baseline needed help at home, they won't cover rehab because they don't view the patient as "rehabilitate". They don't think about anything medically challenging going on with the patients, only that they can walk with limited assistance. I did MDS for 5 years and sending weekly reviews was one of my responsibilities. Very frustrating.
I did not know any of this, thanks for the information. I can imagine how frustrating it is for you bc it was for me and I am on the other side of it
Laurie your calling it exactly what it is, greed on top of greed!!!!
Exactly
Have you looked into teaching? What are your thoughts on that?
I have, looking into all aspects. Thanks 😊
Hi Laurie. What speciality are you doing now?
Urgent care I believe but I’m not sure
Yes, urgent care for now
@@fromcnatonp ah ok. I thought you quit UC. Is this a new clinic then?
Thats so sad
Very sad. Thanks for watching
