    Since this video is getting so much attention, here’s my controversial opinion:
    Revan (the novel) is one of my favorites. I really loved the bitter-sweet conclusion to his story. He’s like a larger than life hero from Greek mythology, so it made sense to me that he had a tragic end. The bigger they are, the harder the fall, right? Even still, his failure still ended in a small victory; delaying the invasion by hundreds of years. He saved the galaxy one last time and no one will ever know. Tragically beautiful, if you ask me.
    I also liked his character arc of trying to live up to his own reputation, until he became the embodiment of the light AND dark sides of the Force. He became the “balance”. It made him badass, but somehow vulnerable as well.
    “I am Revan reborn! And before me, you are nothing.”
    That said, I really didn’t like Meetra Surik’s ending. Seemed anticlimactic and lame. Maybe I’m biased, because Meetra’s my favorite EU character.
    Edit: Also, I wasn’t a fan of Revan in The Old Republic MMO. I feel like the novel should have been the end of his story.

      I'm someone who started the KOTOR games with KOTOR 2.
      The Revan book does a disservice to both of the games.
      Like, it's prose is good. It focus' on Scourge too much, it treats the Exile like some basic bitch Jedi when she definitely isn't.

      I loved both the novel, and SWTOR DLC, I think it was a nice tie-in and a more fitting end to his story, to show the aftermath and how while he might have escaped the Emperors control, being wrenched from it left him only half of his true self, and in the end, you the player fix that.

      Revans story is good, except for the bit where in the revan is forced to the dark side by the sith emperor. I much prefer that Revan say that the jedi and republic would be insufficient to defeat the sith empire, and so willingly fell to ultimately make the galaxy ready to FIGHT the sith, not to make it ready for the sith. In either KOTOR 1 or 2 it is stated that while Malak was brutal, devastating planets, Revan instead turned to sabotage, disabling things (factories and planetary shield generators, etc.) so that they could be quickly rebuilt. This speaks to me of one readying for an even bigger fight, with or without the star forge

    Kreia is the greatest force wielder and force scholar of all time. Not only did she keep searching further, deeper, embracing a broader view than any before her but she was also to afraid to take a stance, to be critical, to formulate an opinion, to put her foot down, setting her strongly apart from wishy-washy grandmasters like Yoda who became vague, submissive and inactive as a price for their understanding, bent to the will of the Force. But Kreia is someone for whom truth and freedom were more important and someone who would spit in the eye of gods and face the universe and fate itself alone if needed.
    And yet, even her strength could only do so much before she reached her limits, and her achievement was ultimately failure. We need more students of the Force who understand her legacy, her discoveries to seek an ultimate solution.

Does life go on, but the potential to have anyone and anything as Force-sensitive is rendered unachievable? Can the Force be destroyed in the first place? The force spawned Revan, and Anakin to cut down the horrors. We already saw the video on Revan. Anakin plays into this by how the empire would not have stayed together long enough without Vader. Palpatine didn’t have the raw power. By the time the yuzhon-vog came, the galaxy would have still been recovering from being divided in a new civil war. Revan and Kreia are true masters of the force that I wish we got to see more of.
    One saw the force for what it truly is: a primordial entity that robs agency and gives and takes power as it sees fit.
    The other used all aspects of the force to achieve greatness and prepare for an oncoming threat, overcoming its will in the process.
    Kreia is right in that the Jedi are naive fools and the Sith too unstable and corrupted to function, and she is proof that a middleground exists, albeit precarious.
    Revan also stands as a shining example of what all force wielders should strive to become: overcoming the will of the force and wielding all of it's gifts without being distorted and warped by it.

    • @taylor3579

      Correction:
      Revan NEVER overcame the force's will; that was Meetra Surik.
      Kreia loved and envied Meetra Surik for having thr strength to do what no one else could; free herself. That was the whole premise of 2.
      Kreia admired Revan because Revan saw what others could not/would not, and he was willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to save the entirety of the galaxy from a threat far greater then they had seen before.
      Whe Kreia looked at Revan she saw the heart of the force.
      When she looked at Meetra she saw the death of it.

My opinion is that Both reven and the exiles storys would better fit a tv show style of story telling as there is a LOT of space in-between that can be filled in and fleshed out, like a lot of the big battles can be expanded, character interactions could be spruced up, the over arching storys can be interconnected in some ways and so on, whilst some of it or all of it being narrated by Kreia in a way that tells the story of that battle but not what EXACTLY happened, it would have the potential to run as long or longer then even bloody stargate! Tho now that I think of it, I belive it would fit better as an animated show then a live action one, and on top of that slap in the MASTER of animated story telling Genndy Tartakovsky and you got your self a MASTERPICE... and Maybe add in a bit of Dave Filoni for some flare idk

    I actually wish more people would take Revans lesson into their lives. It's really important to remember to always choose by yourself. Not going blindly into some idealogies or politics, but making your own decisions after listening to every side. Take what's best from each side of conflict and think about it instead of reapeting what others says

  • @nortons7040
    @nortons7040 Год назад +12

    Basically Kreia's philosophy is "developement through conflict". Well, it's Nietzschean philosophy (what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger). Thus Kreia is kind of Nietzsche alter-ego in the KOTOR. That's why Revan was never "turned to the dark side", according to Kreia. He just had played role of a "necessary evil" to prepare the Republic for the imminent invasion of true siths. Through the conflict (acting as a bad guy) he wanted to "shape" Republic to be strong, as he himself was "shaped" trough the conflict (war) with Mandalorians. And Malak just made Revan's task easier when turned into the real threat to the Republic by betraying Revan. So it wasn't necessary to Revan to continue acting as a bad guy and he has "switched" to the "light side" (not really).

    • @AuspexAO
      @AuspexAO Месяц назад

      It's not just conflict though, it's literally learning through doing and experiencing. The Sith believe that the pursuit of Power will set them free, but Kreia really doesn't believe in Power for the sake of Power. She believes that being powerful do to your own choices and your own wisdom is much more valuable than just possessing some kind of brute force like an army or a powerful artifact. She definitely does not believe in the Jedi concept of "peace" which is largely just apathy and lack of intellectual curiosity. Remember, Kreia betrays whatever ideals she holds to test their strength. In the end, she finds neither Jedi nor Sith to be worthy of total dedication, and see the endless cycle of death to be the fault of the Force. Instead of just apathetically accepting this fate, she tries to do the impossible and destroy it. She hates and loves the Force in equal measure, but she knows that as long as it exists, Force Sensitives will merely repeat history over and over and over.

    Listening to this makes me think of ways the sequel trilogy could have been so much better. Instead of Kylo idolizing Darth Vader how about he idolizes Revan? Kylo's pride makes him think that he must take up the mantle of Sith Lord in order to prepare the galaxy for another threat. This threat can be real or imagined. If it is imagined have it be that Snoke was manipulating Kylo into thinking the destruction he is helping to create is for the greater good.
    His character arc can be him discovering that Kylo is not Revan. He is not as skilled, strong or intelligent as Revan and his attempts to emulate Revan were foolishness and pride manipulated by another Sith who was seeking power.
    I feel like with good writers this could have made for a much better sequel trilogy. But better then the recent trilogy is a very low bar to go over, and if they used good writers then the sequels would have been better and I would not be having these thoughts.

      I personally think K.O.T.O.R Duology shouldn’t be adapted to the big screen.
      It’s best as games because the player can explore the universe, and take their time to uncover the lore.

    "The difference between a fall and a sacrifice." This is incredibly insightful, no matter how many times you watch it. Revan is so intriguing because they had a connection to the force that none may surpass. They were not light, nor dark, but were able to be both at the same time. Knowingly falling to the dark side for the greater good. The one negative might be that his foe was the Mandalorians, and the Mandalorians are brutal opponents. Any chance at a happy ending was ended by them because they taught Revan the brutality of war.

    There are few things Kreia omits here. Probably because she only heard some stuff second hand. A few examples are: Yes Revan got ambushed by a Jedi Strike Force led by Bastilla Shan but this was not the reason he got captured. It was because Malak saw an opportunity to take the Masters mantle and decided to fire upon Revan ship. From what I remember in Kotor Bastilla and Revan are the only survivors and she personally captures and saves him (which is what establishes the force bond between them). Then a second example (less relevant to the story at large) is that Bastilla falls in love with Revan. Another example is the fact that Revan target specific individuals and employed sabotage in order to cut out what he considered bad apples and leave factory's and weapon armaments largely intact in order to prepare for the coming arrival of the Sith Emperor empire.

      The Disciple came to that conclusion as well, Revan never wanted to destroy the Republic but to take it over and rebuild it stronger and prepare for the eventual return of the true sith empire.

    Kotor II had such a beautiful story thanks in no small part to Kreia's dialogues and influence. Her narration of the history is poetic and almost cryptic, yet at the same time she speaks with truth, more than any character in all the game (and perhaps the franchise). She manipulated the exile and almost killed her, yet at the same time she was the one that care the most and understand her better. After years, I can't forget most of her lines.
    "I would have killed the galaxy to preserve you. I would have let the galaxy die. You are more rare than you know, and what you have taught yourself must not be allowed to die… And it is for that that I love you".
    This line will always have a place in my heart and that is because it was thought with so much care. It reflects Kreia's character so well.
    She also helped to give the story a feeling like those of the ancient greek epics. The mistery, the tragedy, the passion and the war, all conected to each other.
    It is said that the sequels were thought to bring something different to the franchise, to question some of the things we all thought were absolute truth, but they failed terribly at that and I think is partially because they overlooked the one who did it best: Kreia.
    Thanks to Obsidian, to all the people that helped to make this wonderful story and to all the fans who keep the legend alive. I hope each one may have it's deserved reward in time. Bless you all
    🌠

    I always found it kind of sad that they didn’t make an official Kotor 3 since it felt like a nice setup in k2 where Kreia straight up says that everyone they fought weren’t the true Sith and that the real Sith Empire was out watching from the shadows and that Revan went to fight them and the exile goes off to join them. I like Swtor but it was a bit grittier in the kotor games. On that note it was rather heart wrenching that Revan never got to see his son in person.

    The Jedi Council's refusal to "get involved in politics" resulting in their downfall, and the near extinction of their entire order?
    Gee, I NEVER would have thought them capable of being so out of touch with things which happen outside the safety and comfort of the inner rim.

    The fact that everyone identifies him as a sith is crazy. Revamp went to the outer regions as a Jedi to stop vitiate was overpowered by the strongest sith of all time and was controlled to turn to the dark. He did become great as the Sith Lord but his mind was fractured and when captured was wiped and became a Jedi again. His mind was so strong he was able to claw his memories back and become revan once again just to stop vitiate again. He was always light

    This is so much more interesting than the BS that Disney came up with. Rather than make new characters, deliberately at the expense of our original heroes, they should have realized the glory that was already created in the EU. Revan's story is so nuanced and rich with characters, and his philosophy as the Dark Lord lays the blueprint that was adopted and "perfected" by Darth Bane many centuries later. This is where the "Rule of Two" truly originates and culminates in the rise of Darth Sidious. In the end, Palpatine is Darth Bane's and Darth Revan's idea incarnate. What cooler set of prequels could you set up?

    • @dvmjw8715
      @dvmjw8715 2 года назад +2

      honestly, forget disney. That BS was (and will remain for long) a slap in the face of the established traditions and the conventional SW story and spirit.
