Well done Richard and Ian, Thank You for speaking out, You may have cracked a few jokes and while that’s good, your message is a a very sad one. I am a retired man, not a farmer, I do support your argument regarding this capital acquisition tax on farm property. Any business that cannot afford to pay a tax such as inheritance tax shouldn’t have to pay that tax. The tax is on an asset that you haven’t made a “wealthy “ lifestyle from, but you worked hard to put food on the table for yourself your families and the country. Perhaps this tax should be applied to the monarchy also, or maybe first as an experiment to see how it could be applied to the general population. Luckily I live in Ireland where we can still sell produce to mainland Europe.
Its not the farms it will affect it's the whole industry machinery dealers' agricultural contractors agricultural mechanics it's everything to do with farming.

Guys you are a class act… I’m not a farmer and live in London and totally have my support 100% as all farmers of this country do…. You guys are the backbone of this nation and are totally unappreciated and shat on by the government…. The twats in the Labour Party couldn’t do an hour in your shoes…. With fear of getting their designer shoes and clothes dirty and don’t care the food they eat comes from another country instead of supporting the food production in this country….. my sympathies and support for all farmers….🫶🏻
Your words of townies coming into the countryside and buying up some land, playing about with it being a ‘farmer’ for about two years then it gets left. Much of the land in the village just lies empty, maybe has some horses. I had a few sheep some years ago, I don’t own any land of my own, they just grazed other peoples land and kept the grass down for them. There are two farms on the outskirts of the village, all the others have closed down now as they couldn’t make enough money to keep going.
The margins are so small, and unreliable the only security a farm can rely on is scale, anything under 150 acres lives on a knife edge, over 200 acres (Lowland) can probably pay minimum wage, until next April, and all these farmers probably rely on a second income to supplement their income. How many farms rely on the wife’s income to feed the family ?
@ my neighbour had to rely on his wife’s income and despite her good job and salary still couldn’t make ends meet. He ended up only being able to sell his cottage as all the land was owned by different family members, much of it is not farmed or has been sold off to those who want to increase their land holding, but do nothing with it and barely live in the village.
Morning guys - Brilliant video. Get the politicians out for a weeks work experience on the farms - That will shock them. Also why can't they tax the supermarket giants (they can afford it anyway) who import food to make them source British produce at a better price to farmers I hope this gets sorted - I don't want to see a barren, wilderness Britian
I agree with you both, massive ball dropped by the gov and no long term thought over it. But to play devils advocate, it might give someone like me the chance to get land (hopefully the big boys start selling but I bet lands not in their name) and places like the estate I work have the same setup as a farm but horses on (hence not ag) and will have to pay inheritance taxes destroying the business 😔. Also think if the government stopped changing the goal posts (which ever way) people could plan the future!😖🤦♂
Land prices are the only thing allowing some farmers to invest in equipment and infrastructure, halve the value and you remove all their borrowing power. There will be very few winners in this. Estate agents and lawyers are all smiling.
An excellent video! Unfortunately the recently elected UK Government has a cabinet that is made up of people that have not had their own business! Student politicians that are totally clueless!
Hi MR, P in the US we can avoid tax on farm land using gifting or a trust and there is a 13 million cap. Over that you pay what is over the cap. Talk to a property management Lawer a good one.
That's the problem with our country now the government, no matter who is in charge are all take, take, take and we get nothing back boils my blood we are all governed by rules
Ian and Richard after 9am the tickets are cheaper and if you book in advance can be lower again. Alternately you can drive so far and park up and catch a train in but not the station car parks they rip you off.
On the one hand, farmers have always complained about being hard up, with 100's of thousands of pounds worth of tractors and equipment about the farms together with new cars every 3 years and new farm buildings going up willy nilly so I'd love to be that hard up. On the other hand why should farmers be any different to the rest of the country. We've had minners decimated, firefighters having to attend fires at 65 the same as 24 year old, or there pensions are screwed, we've had nhs workers below the poverty line. Armed forces personnel on income support So it's just your turn is all
Our turn will result in you paying more for less as well, maybe not tomorrow or next year but mark my words, this policy will effect everybody, not just the folks you rely on to feed your family.
Your dead right, short memories the shower of shit in Westminster. But you really should @take a leaf from the french Farmer's book. How sad is it when we have to take note of the french!!! Time to start gifting the farm land piece by piece to your kids.
You are both lovely hard working guys. It is dreadful what the government are doing to farmers however there are so many comments and people saying the government are useless they dont know what they are doing and this is wrong. They do know what they are doing and that is a deliberate cull of farmers and food production because they have other plans in mind for our food. It is not just a Labour policy the destruction of the farming industry started some time ago now with the Conservatives under the instructions of an unelected foreign power. Everyone needs to spend some time doing some research on where humanity is heading. I do think as well if farmers really feel so strong they should make the effort on the 19th. Excuses like not liking driving to London or transport costs etc are not good enough. No one likes driving there or training there but if its your life you are trying to defend its got to be done. I only have a 5 acre small holding but my partner and I will be attending and we have to come from the Isle of Wight. Small holders, allotment growers, gardners they are coming for us all. Enjoy your content though and sorry this is not a rant at you just trying to wake some people up. We have got to get out of our comfort zones we are under attack.

Hello , from utah usa . Watching the race of the election here . You Farmers gotta get a tax layer and sue them Another Idea is : nobody can tell you how much to sell your land . Couldnt you sell the land to your kidds for twenty pounds then you rent it back for a buck a acer . Theres gotta be a loop whole . Makes me so mad for you .
Thats what you might find they want theyll buy lots of farm land for a range of different purposes but NONE of those are good purposes as well as the fact its bad that the food producing ground is gone
Your both reasonably sensible lads but you must be aware that the no tax on farmland is just attracting the investors and therefore the price is way beyond what the actual value of the land is so surely the tax changes will put the investors off so should help keep the price in the farming affordability range for the future of the UK farmers so a once in 70 years tax only on over 1 million pounds is a small price to ensure the availability of land
@@johnmchardy4502 I very much doubt this tax will decrease land values John, it will certainly de value family farms though, they will get smaller and eventually untenable while the twenty plus acre plots sold off will go to the highest bidder, which won’t be a farmers son, it will be wealthy townies looking for a million ponds worth of tax free investment, and corporate business looking for building plots or renewable energy sites. Food production will fall and farmers sons will be serving burgers at MacDonalds. Everyone will be worse off.
O come on you two, what if you two were like the poor train drivers who will only get £783 extra on top of their salary for working on boxing day, Richard when he's milking his cows like every farmer working more or less like normal over the Christmas / new year period will be in floods of tears over the poor hard done by souls. @FarmerP so sorry . 😑Not good
Looks like Trump is in . Not holding my breath . Glad he got in .Take care .
Take the Tractor to London !!
My landlord has big shiny cars and kids who want for nothing. His thousands of acres and houses are rented out. He farms people
He’s not a farmer though, just a clever chap who knows how to make money, not like us idiots who do it for very little money, and even less gratitude.
Two farmers on RUclips 😂😂😂😂😂😂
👍👍👍☘️
The big question is what child would you give away Ian 😂
Thats what you might find they want theyll buy lots of farm land for a range of different purposes but NONE of those are good purposes as well as the fact its bad that the food producing ground is gone
Can you vote them out
Your both reasonably sensible lads but you must be aware that the no tax on farmland is just attracting the investors and therefore the price is way beyond what the actual value of the land is so surely the tax changes will put the investors off so should help keep the price in the farming affordability range for the future of the UK farmers so a once in 70 years tax only on over 1 million pounds is a small price to ensure the availability of land

I very much doubt this tax will decrease land values John, it will certainly de value family farms though, they will get smaller and eventually untenable while the twenty plus acre plots sold off will go to the highest bidder, which won’t be a farmers son, it will be wealthy townies looking for a million ponds worth of tax free investment, and corporate business looking for building plots or renewable energy sites. Food production will fall and farmers sons will be serving burgers at MacDonalds. Everyone will be worse off.
No money in farming poeple do not understand
O come on you two, what if you two were like the poor train drivers who will only get £783 extra on top of their salary for working on boxing day, Richard when he's milking his cows like every farmer working more or less like normal over the Christmas / new year period will be in floods of tears over the poor hard done by souls.
Also I believe they are entitled to about £559 for working on new years eve.
👍👍

You were born into it grew up amongst it settle down with your wife doing it annual properly die doing it farming that is I'm talking to funky farmers about things you can't do you'd like to but you can't because you can't afford it because supermarkets rip you off I mean look at the price of milk in the supermarket not what they paid a farmer I'd love to see what Jeremy Clarkson thinks who won't be so perlite hell use some f words and a few C words, but your not the only people going to suffer under this unless labour party because disability advisory groups have taking the DWP to court for what they intend on doing to disabled people, but I can see many older farmers taking there lives because of what they are doing, salary I didn't know farmers add a celery just enjoy getting up very early in the morning I'm going to bed early hours of the morning working in all weathers regardless 365 days of the year even if you sell it you won't be able to pay off all your debts including the taxa government are going to want to take off you for selling it St martinsville carry on laughing RUclips need to get on the stage mate I tell you little and large The Nutty farmers😂😂😂
It spends what you have if you have a big farm or a factory farm you too don’t have a big farm factory farm to me. It’s a small farm in American farmers have a very big farm. They’re adding another 5000 cows mountain cows and you can’t even beat that and they have lotta tractors 10 times and you big tractor trailers Holland food acorn you name it long ways is crazy and they do rebuilt their own tractors and their trucks and all equipment they have they do all the work themselves or something they sent to John Deere to repair the machines, Hogan two brothers one and one farm one at another farm one lives in Albridge, New York it’s got loc lots of cows in between your farm Mr. P funky farmer you are lucky got what you have today. You don’t have lots of cows they do and I would love to take you to guys out show you the big farms I’m talking about you’re gonna be shot and they don’t go in the fields all the cows. Do sit in the barn all day long. Cows don’t go out side at all. They all are trapped in the bar all of their life and I like with my cholic dead like cows go out on the mountains. I exercise and eat apples and get the you don’t get up till a few hours later I don’t feel bad And they get money from the government federal government too. I keep saying I don’t understand why they’re getting money. They don’t need it people people like you small farms to keep it working repair the buildings stuff like that I understand and now they’re talking about tax for gas smell a month whatever it is the green gas it makes me very angry when they’re getting free money small farms in America.
