    I’m Mexican and i was surprised to learn that the movie got such a bad reception in other countries because here it was really well received. I think the movie was received that bad because the movie was really made for Mexican audiences, hearing the uk dub I can see that a lot of the jokes do not translate really well (some were even completely ruined or altered), the script was heavily modified and the dubbing is really bad. Here in Mexico, the jokes where pretty clever and the voice acting was made by some really talented people that really captured the feeling of the original Hispanic dubbing. (One of the original voice actors even came back). The original version was really enjoyable because of that. It’s kinda sad to see the movie getting such a poor reception outside of Latin America. If there’s one thing that’s really bad in the movie is the cgi backgrounds and models that don’t fit at all with the 2d models. I think the movie would’ve been much better if it was entirely 2d because the character design and the 2d animation, although simplistic, wasn’t bad at all (and the studio that made this movie has shown that they can make some really good 2d animations, they even showed that in the ending sequence which was my favorite part of the movie) Good review, It was interesting to hear the opinion of people from other countries of the film even if they where negative. I’m subscribing.

    Oh 'Top Cat the Movie'...I remember coming upon it on Netflix one day. When I saw it's unique attempt to integrate simplistic CGI with simplistic drawings, it gave me the impression that maybe, just maybe, someone was actually trying to make a movie based on a Hannah Barbera cartoon that *Gasp and Shock!* might actually be trying to do its source material justice! Yes, a style that potentially looks better than crappy-CGI Scooby Doo, Smurfs, or Yogi Bear (although to be fair, the CGI in Yogi Bear was perhaps the only decent part of the movie). After watching it though, I felt myself spending a whole HOUR trying to relieve myself of a severe headache; few movies have ever been able to make my head actually physically hurt-and having recently found out that the American dub featured Rob Schneider is just salt in the wound.😞

    I found it interesting that that film #2 - Top Cat Begins - they made Officer Dibble younger, thinner, and handsomer. Many of us Top Cat fans know that the original Dibble in the TV series was a stocky thick middle-aged man of 43 - 45 years. If Dibble's Grandma is a character in the movie it makes sense that he had to be younger (how many 45 year old men still have living grandmothers?!).

    Not only was it popular in Mexico but also in Brazil, my mom always talked about this cartoon when she watched it in her youth, its awesome. Oh and fun fact, in the Brazilian dub they switched "New York" to "Brasilia" the Brazilian capital.

    After watching a bit of the first Top Cat movie; I think that if the flash animation was as quick paced and frenetic as something like the Loud House (not necessarily for all the movie, but for certain comedic scenes), a lot of the jokes would be a bit more effective. Also, the villain had a bit of lost potential; since he could have been funnier if he was written like Yzma or Dr Eggman (a comedic villain that can be dangerous when he gets mad). That´s just my opinion, what do you think, Jambareeqi?

    I saw the first movie and it was pretty okay. The thing about it is that it's so 50/50 in terms of a lot of elements to it. The DESIGNS are actually really good but the ANMATION of them is what is so stiff and the mix between 2D and more detailed 3D backgrounds didn't really fit int too well and that's mostly in part because of the stiffer animation. Half of the plot did feel like it was pulled from one of the original episodes of the show, that being the idea of Top Cat being framed by someone who really DOES hate him and puts his friends and Dibble on the line. The thing that makes it odd is how they UPDATED it to take it out of it's 60s setting into the 2010s with a lot more usages of technology and all that. If they had kept it focused in the 60s, they could have had something where Top Cat was being framed by a physical imposter which still would have worked.
    In the long run of things, the first is just WONKY. It almost feels like it doesn't know exactly what it wants to be but still forces itself to trudge through ANYWAY because it wants to put itself front and center but you want me to be 100% honest?
    It's still a better adaption than, blurgh, WOODY WOODPECKER and I think that's because it did retain a lot more of Top Cat and thankfully wasn't a liveaction/CGI hybrid. I still liked the review though because you pointed out a lot of the same issues I had with the film and I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on them. I just feel there were some good elements in the movie but they just weren't used like they should have been.
    Also, look at 6:27 - the footsteps are out of sync with the robots and somehow the dust they kick up goes AHEAD of them!

    Wow, I forgot these existed! (I think I've heard of them, but never watched them.) I initially assumed one of these two movies would be Top Cat and the Beverly Hills Cats (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Cat_and_the_Beverly_Hills_Cats), which I have seen. It was... all right, as far as I remember. Maybe good. It's been years so I could be wrong, but I don't remember hating anything about it. If you can find a DVD of that, I'd be intrigued to see a review with comparisons! XD

    My little brother LOVES both of these movies but to be honest, my thoughts on these movies are almost the same as yours, except for Top Cat Begins I found more jokes funnier than you did. One example was the censorship joke where Top Cat says what may be a F-bomb which is (obviously) 🤬 and Benny’s shocked expression in the background.
    P.S. I’m also British and I find your reviews of bad films 😂 because of how your jokes (mostly) hit ten marks.

    I have a problem here.
    Flash is technically CGI, as it is done with computers.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  6 лет назад +4

      It's about clarification. Yes, Flash is technically CGI, but I have to use separate terminology to make myself clear. I can't exactly describe this unique style as "CGI integrated onto CGI backgrounds". Unless you have a suggestion for how I could describe the technique alternatively? That'd be appreciated for future reference.

    There was another Top Cat film called "Top Cat & the Beverly Hills Cats," that came out all the way back in the 80's.
    I think it was a direct to video or made for TV movie.
    While it might be nostalgic to some, but the plot borrows heavily from the cartoon, mainly the episode where Top Cat & friends thought that Benny was a missing heir to a high class fortune and there is a greedy butler & his dog that are actually criminals and are planning on axing off Benny to get the inheritance.
    Along with a B plot of an orphan girl, who is the real heir to the fortune and the so-called "dead" relative didn't turn out to be dead at all.
    Yeah, the movie was basically a rip-off of "The Aristocats," "Poor Little Rich Girl," and "The Missing Heir" in one package.😕
    And 75 % of that plot was then later reused for the 1990's "Tom & Jerry: Movie".

    In fact most of the cartoons or anime go out of the country in translate to them so it's kind of rare when they decide to make an animated series themselves or moving

  • @jf4132
    @jf4132 6 лет назад +4

    Little comment on the animation. Yeah the animation of the film looks really bad. It also doesn't help that I'm not a fan of flash animation. Seriously, at least the series had a reason why it's animation was bad, each episode had the budget of a ham sandwich, what's this films excuse.

    • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid
      @SuperCosmicMutantSquid 5 лет назад +1

      The same; BUDGET. Also depending on what STYLE/HOW they want it to look, depending on the talent or budget (or both) you can get something that blows you away, something that looks charm, something that looks passable or just something that's....meh.
      The CHARACTER DESIGNS themselves are good but yeah. I wish the animation just flowed better and didn't look so STIFF.

    I just thought top cat the movie was OK it had some callbacks to the original show and the plot OK but it is a shame I only laughed once and that was a a butt joke I give top cat the movie a 6/10. As for begins I really liked it it was funny it was smart and the only problem I had was that it was trying to ame for adults like the scene where top cat swears yes the original was kind of adult but not like the movie a 8/10 it highly recommended it for any top cat fan

  • @Titan52berg
    @Titan52berg 6 лет назад +2

    They changed the artwork too much from the original Hanna -Barbera characters. It all looks like the cheap garbage spewed out from Nickelodeon or the Boomerang Channels! Heavier eyebrows... the facial features are exaggerated and contorted too strongly in various instances, and the voices are too far off target from the Top Cat I used to watch back in the '60's. Give me the original T.C., Benny the Ball, Choo-Choo, Brain, Fancy-Fancy and Spook any day over these abominations! "Abyssmal, cheap and tacky" pretty well sum it up! 'Top Cat Begins' at the very least, has a stronger and closer resemblance to the original characters than the crappy 'Top Cat The Movie.' In short, I agree with your observations of both films... and I still prefer the H/B cartoon series most of all!
