I'm seeing a lot of people comment "You can't complain too much about these films, they're for kids", I have to counter argue this defence with these points:
1) The term "It's a kids' movie" can defend why a film isn't too violent or why it has a colourful art style, but it shouldn't be used to explain why a film is bad, children's films aren't immune from criticism and "It's a Kids' movie" isn't a license for a film to be lazy or uncreative.
2) The Default acceptable standard for children's movies shouldn't be "Whatever, it'll do, it's for kids", especially when there's so many children's movies out there that are both emotionally challenging and imaginative, from "Toy Story" to "The Secret of NIMH", "Matilda" to "The Neverending Story", there's no excuses for children's films to get away with being insultingly low standard or unambitious.
3) Children aren't the only audience who watch these films, don't forget that parents have to see them too, why should it be a chore or punishment for them? Give them an experience that they can appreciate with their kids, a bonding opportunity that they can sincerely share.
Great children's movies respect their young audience, they don't underestimate what kids can take in as an audience, they believe that kids are smarter than we think and try to teach them to understand storytelling values, they are so well written & produced that they can be treasured for a lifetime. Let's not shrug our shoulders or turn the other cheek when a film for kids is bad, we need to call them out on their low standards or easy pandering, because the next generation deserve movies that treat them with respect and don't just see them as a money making opportunity, thank you.
Jambareeqi that’s completely true. It will make all the movies really unwatchable and during our times watching them will be completely wasted.

I can agree with a lot of this list, The Peanuts Movie is easily their best and the original Ice Age is one of them as well.
Those two in particular are on my Top 20 favourite animated films list but I did enjoy the likes of Robots, Ice age 3, Rio, and Epic.
Ice Age was good but I didn't care for Rio or Peanuts
@@mustangwolf4787 That's reasonable, it was kind of short for a feature film (only a little over an hour) and if you aren't a huge fan of the characters, can be very bland

Yeah. It's sad that no matter how great this film was, and even one of Blue Sky's best, it's one of the lowest grossing blue sky films ever. That film took a toll at the box office when it was up against Star Wars the force awakens.

What Blue Sky needs is to stop treating its audience like a bunch of kids who can't go for two minutes without a joke or visual gag shoved up their nostrils. Even kids can appreciate somber, cerebral and emotionally stimulating moments in cartoons.
As a kid i loved the mistery and danger of the end of the world of Ice age 2.
You do know that blue sky makes movies for little kids or at least for kids under 10
The movies are LITERALLY MEANT FOR KIDS! I swear somebody needs to teach OLD PEOPLE that if they want a movie that makes sense DONT watch a CHILDRENS movie! I swear these dumbasses are annoying

Two notes:
1. Personally, I liked Robots more than Ice Age. I never found Fender annoying; while Robin Williams wasn't at Genie-level comedy, it was still a pretty good performance. In fact, I thought the whole cast was well-suited to their roles, making them really likeable, easy-to-understand characters.
2. I agree that the Peanuts Movie was Blue Sky's best film. But while I'll gladly give them credit for PERFECTLY recreating Charles Schulz's art style in 3D, it should be noted that a lot of the humor and dialogue was taken directly from the comics, and Schulz's family was deeply involved in the film. In fact, the screenplay was written in part by Bryan and Craig Schulz. So yeah... I wouldn't give Blue Sky TOO much credit for the dialogue and story.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the only time they’ve done that. A lot of the Bill Melendez specials included dialogue and jokes that are from the comics, ala It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
@@josiahagin2100 I'm well aware of that fact, but just because the Melendez cartoons took jokes directly from the comics doesn't mean that the movie would. I guess I should give Blue Sky some credit for continuing that tradition and not trying to reinvent these characters, but I still feel that most of the writing credit needs to go to the Schulz family.
I disagree on Rio 2 being worst because is decent movie for biologist that want a Amazonian ecology rep. I see Rio 2 movie is good as Ice Age sequels to those who only watch Ice Age foe paleobiology by Biologist majors, I understand the environmental politics is no for everyone but for Boilogist is understandable for there ecology courses.
Yep! I don’t find Fender annoying either. Yes he’s very loud and spontaneous, but that’s the point. He’s the weird friend in the group always cracking jokes and isn’t constantly being distracting or getting in the way. Legit some of the best jokes in the movie are from Fender, like his new legs actually being girl’s with a skirt, or the part with Hit Me Baby One More Time. Legit I’ve seen a lot more annoying characters
Honestly I agree that The peanuts movie is one of the best blue sky movies. I think it did a great job of having the same energy as the comics and shorts. I felt nostalgic watching it and even when I watched it the first time.
Cutie Marionette I enjoyed that movie, even though i haven't seen the original franchise unfortunately.
Lowkey, Horton hears a who was my childhood, and honestly I think it’s rather good, the humor is enjoyable and the animation and design is lovely.
Thank you
I 100% agree with you!
Agreed! I LOVED that film when I was a child! :D
SAME!
Anyone else remember when ihop had a Horton hears a who special and it was like kid heaven they used jello as ice cubes, I hate jello but the way they presented it made me want it. I never got to eat and it tho and got very emotional when I found out I'd never get another chance.
Let's all remember that Ice Age was originally centered on Diego, and eventually became a pretty lame character in the following movies.
Eclipto I think it was centred around all three main characters really, and their respective deep and really sophisticated issues around family (dead, abusive/unhealthy, and neglectful for Manny Diego and Sid respectively). It was a really poignant and beautiful film and I’d say it’s even better than Peanuts, as much as I loved that one
But of course then we get to the sequels, and all that nuance is gone:
“Woah, Manny found a GIRL Mammoth?? Can he stop being so AWKWARD and try to impress her??”
“Uh-Oh! Diego is afraid of water!!!”
“Wow - Sid has a GIRLFRIEND??”
Not to mention all those lame side characters they cram into a cast that keeps getting bigger and bigger and that they completely forgot about the baby
@@frogwhisperer2067 I already told this to Jambareeqi, but if it makes you feel any better, the people who worked on Ice Age understand how badly Continental Drift turned out. They are making *ANOTHER* Ice Age film, *HOWEVER,* they have come to the conclusion that this next film will be the last film in the franchise and they want to send it out with a bang. They were saying that because of the failure of the last film, they want to recapture the charm and emotion from the first film by going back to its roots and bringing back the humans from the first film, particularly the baby named Roshan. If this is going to be the case, *THEN LET'S PRAY TO GOD THAT THEY FINALLY END THE FRANCHISE ON A DECENT AND HEARTFELT NOTE AND DON'T SCREW UP ANY OF THE ELEMENTS FROM THE FIRST FILM!!!*
@@mauriciogarcia4795 OMG I WANT THIS TO HAPPEN HOLY HECC THAT SOUNDS PROMISING HNGGGHH
I always felt like it was centered around Manny but now that I think about it the first film really managed to balance out the development and divide the attention among the main 3. I really hate what they did to Diego in the 4th movie, but I kinda liked him in the 3rd. He was always the best boi.

I find the second and third one to be worse than the original. The characters do not act like they did in the first Ice Age, and the humor got pretty dull and stupid.
They're still enjoyable but a bit dissappoitning
@@Johann55555 Ice age 3 is better than 1 in my opinion.
Why? Because it has Buck, the best character.
@@zachtheantispamcop9753 never forget buck
Johann I loved the third one as a kid. I loved it because of all the dinosaurs. The story is pretty good in my opinion, and it is one of the best movies Blue Sky has ever made. Do I just see it with a nostalgic view? Maybe, but it helped build my childhood.
I always felt like the first Ice Age was so so SO under appreciated. It’s always such a pleasant surprise to go back to it and realize it holds up so well despite how far the sequels fall. It and Peanuts are the only Blue Sky films I personally find “great” as opposed to mediocre/ok.
I wouldn't say all the Ice Age sequels were bad. I found Meltdown to be watchable and I liked Dawn Of The Dinosaurs but I do agree on the first Ice Age being so underappreciated (although that could be because they mostly associate the original with the sequels). Heck, alongside The Peanuts Movie, it's on my Top 20 favourite animated films list.
Robots was pretty decent ;-;
@@ultradragon999 was never my thing. There's parts I like but it mainly loses me after Act 1.
How could you...also the peanuts movie sucked *** idk how anyone finds it geat at all....the origonal cartoons were WAY better cause they had some gags and jokes here and there but the peanuts movie was basically just felt like a documentary so once again idk how ANYONE could like it...i even found ice age 4 more entertaining to be honest
Ice Age 2 was pretty good and 3 was decent.
But the first Ice Age is really underappreciated.
Ferdinand feels like a drama being unfortunately trapped in a comedy studio. It's like Home on the Range, but worse because it actually has heart and a message.
And that's just from the two scenes I saw.

Blue Sky has so much potential. I love their visuals and they are able to create very charming characters. The problem is that they seem unwilling to take certain chances and now they cater to children with immature and frankly, unfunny humour. I think Ferdinand is a great example, where they have the base for greatness, but not the will to commit to their ideas. Hope they pull through with their new movie.
Nope! blue sky is now a defunct studio now.
I didn't mind Horton hears a who I thought it was pretty fun and funny
It’s not perfect, but it is one of the more underrated Blue Sky films. Although I think Jim Carrey night have been been a bit too comedic for his own good.

Ice age should have been a trilogy. The first was great and the second and third were ok
ice age 5 in a nutshell
Disney “bet you can’t make FIVE sequels to ice age”
Blue sky “hahahahaha hold my beer”
Disney “it’s empty”
Blue sky “no there’s a drop left”
You either mean "FOUR sequels" or "FIVE installments", since sequels and installments aren't exactly the same thing. If there were five sequels to Ice Age, there'd be six films overall.
I think, for my countdown, I'd probably Put Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs as one of my best.
After watching this video, I see why people don't really like Continental Drift, but the first 3 Ice Age movies will always be the best and I really wish the other sequels could have been the same
i still remember the soundtrack from ice age 4 and its been years since i watched it as a kid

That's a good thing too. There are a lot of amazing things Blue Sky Studios has done.
i agree but i feel like some of their movies, like Ferdinand were not as good as they could've been because blue sky was too scared to go all the way with the themes

W H O ‘ S T H E K I N G O F T H E B E A C H
Mr Roboto See a need, FILL A NEED
You can shine no matter what you’re made of.
Looking back on Robots, as a child I was a lot more well-off than I am now due to some unfortunate circumstances, so somehow I really only recognized ambition in the movie. I now see that, while a little preachy, financial status can hold people back from their ambitions, but can also be overcome from dedication and to be compassionate towards others who may not have it as good as you did. It touches me especially now as a senior about to wrap up her last year of high school and facing college in a new place with little to my name. Wish there were more films like that.
It's a gripe that I have with Hollywood, their films are often mainly about over-privileged people who look like super models, while people in lower classes are the jokes or side characters. This is why I love the work of John Waters, he satirised the melodrama of 1950's Hollywood movies, by telling the same kind of stories but with poor and strange people outside mainstream society.
Jambareeqi Absolutely. The media tends to paint stories about less fortunate people as lackluster and dull. Of course amazing or random things can happen to them like anybody else, but even something else I’ve seen is that people of certain demographics don’t tend to react as someone in that demographic would; for example: A poorer person in a movie may barely react to suddenly being given a lavish room to board in. It’s like half their character is ignored because the writers haven’t experienced what they have.
Totally, it's why I'm proud of a lot films my country has produced, English movies tend to be about the working or lower class, but Hollywood prefers to over-romantacise English culture by only focusing on the glamorous posh side of it
I definitely agree with your choices. But if I could make a suggestion for future videos: maybe consider putting the best movies first, followed by the worst. In the worst section, you talk about some of the sequels, but you don't discuss what you liked about the originals until much later. The video would flow a lot better if you swapped the two around. Still, love your work

The Peanuts Movie is a 10/10 movie in my opinion. It's not perfect, but I can't really think of any significant flaws in it. I also admire how Blue Sky managed to recreate the charm and feel of the comics and original animated cartoons, while making it look 100 times better at the same time.
Yes, this. One thing I loved about the Peanuts movie is that it didn't really try to shove anything too "modern" into it. It actually felt like an original Peanuts cartoon to me, just with a huge visual upgrade.

I think a big reason as to why 'Horton Hears a Who' is the best Seuss film has to do with it's competition; some would argue that Carrey's Grinch is better, but at least Horton doesn't have a dog-butt-kiss scene.
In the case of the fourth Ice Age, I forced myself to watch it one time to do a review of it on DeviantArt, and I was expecting the worst from it...and I was surprised at how enjoyable the Peter Dinklage Captain was able to make his scenes (as well as the scenes with Scrat, even if the best ones were already given away in the first film's trailer). Not enough to save the movie from being cliched, creatively-bankrupt, and just overstaying the franchise's welcome, but still not the worst. But by the fifth one, nope! That was pretty much as terrible as I heard it was going to be-annyoing, mind-numbing, and I truly believe that Manny has suffered some of the WORST flanderization I've seen in ANY sequel! And the worst part was that not even Simon Pegg as Buck could save it! Any future sequels they try to shit out of this franchise should just go straight-to-DVD like the Land Before Time sequels!
And yes, I agree that both the original Ice Age and Peanuts are their best!
I love Rio so much!
Oh and any movie with more then 3 sequels, the 3+ sequels will *most likely* suck
Edit: ok since people can't finish reading I said MOST LIKELY I didn't say that they all were 100% going to be bad...
Not every movie with over 3 sequels will be bad.
*sequel
Toy Story 4 was good
Star Wars Episode 1:
I agree with this list, because... Let's face it... Blu Sky couldn't make a sequel anymore if their lives depended on it.
Top 5 my favourite
1 Robots
2 Ice Age
3 Rio
4 Ice age 2
5 Epic
Ashton Craven *cough* ice age 2 should be number 3 but ok *cough* just my opinion *cough
When ads for Epic popped up I initially got super excited as I'd just read the book series (Epic, Saga, and don't remember the third)
When I found out it WASNT that book, I was then super disappointed and never watched it as I'd seen Arthur and the Invisibles.
Good its not a very good movie
@@ultradragon999 look up the book Epic (it has a sequel Saga) it's pretty cool.
Takes place in a world where the world economy is literally an MMO
The 4th ice age movie gave me nightmares for weeks
Like the part when the siren were like
"Oh hey buddies"
Absolutely agree with number 1. Very cute and charming, and stayed true to the source material.
My personal favorite is robots I first saw it with my father and my relationship with him wasn't the best and Rodney's relationship with his father made realize there was hope. So I guess I love it for sentimental reasons.
I hope that your relationship with your dad has improved since then
@@Jambareeqi we were working on it but he unfortunately passed away before we could fully get things fixed, but thanks for asking.
I'm very sorry to hear that, are you doing okay since his passing?
@@Jambareeqi yes, it's still hard at times but I think about the good times we had and that helps.
I'm glad you're recovering, remember the line from The Land Before Time "You'll always miss her. But she'll always be with you, as long as you remember the things she taught you. In a way, you'll never be apart, for you are still a part of each other."
My main reactions to this were:
1) Wait, Continental Drift was a full movie, I thought it was just a pre-movie short that came before the Peanuts Movie
2) Epic was from Blue Sky, must've forgot about that
3) ROBOTS, MY CHILDHOOD... didn't realize it was Blue Sky either (also RIP Robin Williams)
4) Wonder what he thinks about the first Ice Age sequel
Finally! Someone Who Appreciates Robots Like I Do!
EthanGamer I’m one of them
I watched it so many times as a kid because we had a tv in the car. I wanted to be an inventor and that movie really inspired it
IMO I really like Ferdinand. I admit now it's not the best out of their films but I still really like it overall.
Game Boy! It’s so boringggg I felt it was short but it dragged on
Same

Ferdinand is my favorite Blue Sky movie! I understand why some people don't like it though, but for me personally I love it cause the movie is very heartfelt.
I've seen it and honestly couldn't place what exactly is missing until I saw the video.
the first rio movie is amazing and i love it but the second one is a mess-
Unpopular Opinion:
I don’t think Blue Sky Studios is terrible at all. I LOVE some of their movies and consider their worst movies to be mediocre at worst, not awful.
The worst Blue Sky Studios animated film will soon to be my least favorite Disney animated feature film (As a whole) when the Disney-Fox merger close, Ice Age: Collision Course. But my favorite from the studio is Robots.
Update: Disney owns Blue Sky Studios now.
Same, it's one of my childhood favorite movies
Is it weird that when I first saw Robots I thought it was a Disney movie. And now it is.
Maria Ximena Otalora Cordoba I know robots is similar to treasure planet .
@@zoelindwall637 yes, exactly for me it seemed to fit in the 2000s era of Disney movies and the main character has a similar design to the robot in Meet the Robinsons
Other than the Roberto sideplot, I personally thought that Rio 2 was fine. It's just, why have a "significant other's childhood friend/main character's love rival" sideplot? ESPECIALLY SINCE BLU AND JEWEL ARE ALREADY BIRD MARRIED WITH KIDS!?
Yesh
Why is Horton a bad film? It is awesome!
But, I mean this is your opinion. So that’s your opinion. Also Renan? Is very...not good.
Dva main amr folks?
Horton's pretty meh. So Jam's not quite wrong there
Horton is horrible
Lol I agree

I personally like Horton hears a Who, but eh.
RIP Blue Sky Studios.

To me, The Peanuts Movie is so good because it's just Peanuts. No bells and whistles, no crazy over-the-top antics, it's simple fun, just like the comics. Of course there are action scenes for Snoopy and the like, but the heart of the source is still there. That's why I love it. 😁
My favorite character from Horton hears a who is the Emo boi. Fight me.
Ok
He has a name!
.....I forgot what it is.
Really? Jojo?
EmblemBlade9 it’s jojo
JoJo
Ferdinand was actually my favorite Blue Sky movie. But thats your opinion. So im not offended lol.
Syyrith Animations same, I know it’s not perfect and I can be a critic sometimes, but I like just sitting down and enjoying Ferdinand. It’s up there with the peanuts movie.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Yeah opinions are opinions
Ferdinand's failings hit me the hardest personally because the book was my fucking JAM as a little kid to the point that I remember it to this day. Blue Sky got so close to doing my boy Ferdinand justice and then they dropped the ball into a goddamn wood chipper.
Best: Ice Age
Worst: Ice Age 5
ice age 3 was the last good one
I like that you give a balanced view of the films- giving equal time to both pros and cons.
I love Horton here’s a who how dare u
Ps I know it is just his opinion so don’t get toxic
Your right i love the show
It’s my childhood 😂
I literally LOVED that movie and legit have a CD of it
Ok i l like men
And lik boys
Im gonna be that guy and say that it's hear not here ☺
rip, Horton Hears a Who was my childhood. Anyway this video was actually really reasonable and I enjoyed it so don't squash the guy for having oppinions. (Also the edditing is A*)
Me: Hears that the peanuts movie was his favorite
Also me: **Does a little Snoopy dance in happiness**
You know which movie is the best ?
The Peanuts Movie
ok
ok
Yeah
ok
yes
Now that sir, is a very jazzy chair
Ferdinand and Peanuts are actually 2 of my favorite animated movies of all time. Ferdinand for it's depiction of a genuinely pacifistic character who isn't a pushover, but takes the time to be understanding and lead by example and helps change the minds and hearts of his peers. It was just really touching to see and I enjoyed all the side characters. And Peanuts because I've been a fan of Peanuts ever since I was a toddler and seeing a movie capture the essence of Shultz's work and having a lot of humorous and heartfelt moments, I can honestly say I don't think I could have asked for a better Peanuts movie than that one. I rewatch those two movies a lot just to feel happy when I'm down sometimes because they're so moving.
" you can shine no matter what you made of"
Best:
Ice Age 1 & 2
Rio
The Peanuts Movie
Worst:
Ice Age: Collision Course
Ferdinand
I sure hope that Spies in Disguise is good.
While I agree with your problems with Rio 2, my biggest issue with the film is how mean spirited it can be. Blu is constantly being put down and humiliated and barely gets and gratitude for his efforts. In fact, he should be the most respected macaw since he risked his life to save Jewel, the daughter of the flock's leader. Sure Jewel defends him in a couple scenes but she mainly just ignores Blu's feelings and even calls him selfish. I get that her dad would want the best for her, but the way he treats Blu makes him more of a villain. The scenes with Nigel and Gabi were the saving graces for me.
Ferdinand was my favorite book.
Bluesky ruined it
BIG AGREE! I had the book when i was really little, it was actually my mom's favorite book too. I used to read it all the time,, bluesky butchered it.
Quack I’m Back hey did you see the animation they made? Before they made the movie, that’s how I know the story about Ferdinand... that story is so adorible if you havent seen it you can probely find it on RUclips I think idk💚
I remember my mom showed me the book years ago and I liked it
In all honestly Ice Age 5 could have been at least decent with some better writing choice. If you don't mind me giving it a go. If you do mind then TL;DR: I spend way too much time analyzing a kids film to make a point about how it could have been decent.
The overall theme of the film is parenting right? So why not make the focus on that as there are three opportunities of parenting that are presented in the film.
The first one is the theme of a parent knowing when to let go. With Manny it makes sense that he's extremely hesitant to let his only daughter go on her own as he lost his last child. So the change should be less about Manny being overprotective and more about Manny being justifiably fearful of his daughter going with someone who probably couldn't protect her. Manny shows the guy's flaws each and every day. Making it known just what Manny doesn't like about him outside of "he's annoying." Then when they finally confront Manny about it he tells her about the family he lost. The child he lost. That he failed to protect. That when he looks at his daughter's fiance he doesn't see someone who will protect her. He sees someone who will probably get her and their child killed. This gives Manny a much more understandable and justifiable reason for not like her fiance, and can be a good way of allowing him to move past that moment and allow him to let go.
The second one is the theme of a parent learning to accept their child for who they are. This one doesn't really need much tweaking as the original was decently handled. You know for Ice Age 5.
The third one is the theme of knowing when someone is ready to be a parent. This one I feel was the most wasted opportunity as this could have allowed Shira to gain some good development. So it should be the two talking about children. Diego is the one wanting to have kids someday where as Shira isn't for it. Since she's never really been in a pack or been with other sabers she would be a bit shaken at the idea of having to raise a saber. So to get her to finally come around to it maybe during the scene where Buck saves a rock he could have saved a baby monkey. Maybe the monkey was holding something that Buck wanted. Doesn't really matter. What does mater is Buck putting the monkey on Shira. You can pretty much see where it's going. Shira begins to feel a legitimate connection with the monkey. With Diego's help she learns how to stop a crying baby, help it get to sleep, and keep it entertained. Diego could possibly mention a baby he helped to take care of when he met Manny and Sid. Again, bringing it back around to the first film. She could grow more and more protective. Soon when it's time to give the baby up she's basically heartbroken. Seeing the happiness of the mother monkey after getting her baby back would resinate that need to be a mother in her.
Obviously these aren't perfect, and I probably shouldn't be over analyzing and criticizing a kids movie this much. I just thought it would be fun to see what I could come up with. Either way, with some proper rewrites this movie could have been decent.
That would definitely fix the film.
Dr Seuss- *dies*
Movie Studios- Hippity Hoppity your books are now our property
I remember while I'm watching Rio 2, I can't help but to feel annoyed at anyone who is picking on Blu. Dammit, even his own kids do shit to him.
Yeah, i don't know why the writers wanted to turn Blu into a punchbag, even his own family mistreat him
