    Great guitar and great video! I've owned an Ibanez Pro Line since 1985, same color but with a rosewood fretboard. It SCREAMS if you want it too!! I'm using it my current side project that plays a lot of 80's style music from the Go-Go's to Van Halen and Janet Jackson. This guitar can EASILY cover the tones in all of that stuff! If anyone comes across one, I highly recommend picking it up. It's very impressive!

    Forgot to mention in my other reply I threw my PR1550 one night clear across the room in a barn, yeah I was lucky how it landed I guess but only the neck pickup toggle broke off, bent the volume pot,one decent gouge out of the wood just behind the pro rockr bridge, no other damage, i never even got it fixed for years and the guitar still played great never went out of tune as you know this model stays in tune for weeks lol, I almost some mine once for $200 but the guy who showed up to buy said he didn't like or it was too expensive, lol boy was I lucky he didn't buy it. Great Video , Peace !

    Seems like with the advancement of 3D printers there must be a way to manufacture the parts at home now.
    I picked up an '84. all original - but after finding a cutaway of the trem system I didn't want to try and change strings or try to get better intonation - now I may give it a go. I love the neck on these Roadstars too!

    I have a PL-1660 Flying V I bought new in 1986. I have well over 30 guitars but this one holds a special place for me. I dont use the Rok"r any more just have it tightened back so its basically a blocked hardtail. I bought replacement parts for the tremolo years ago when they were available in case I ever need them. Other than a pickup change to a Tone Zone bridge and a PAF Joe neck pickups it is all stock and still have the case. It needs a refret job but still is a great sounding guitar that seems to sound better as it gets older

    About 6 months ago I was on a social media marketplace and I Bought a 1986 RG440 with an edge it was first year for the RG and edge last year for the roadstar series ii headstock all original and so clean it looks like any brand new average guitar that’s been around the local store on a hanger for a little bit too long because it’s so expensive but it’s cool enough that customers pick it up and really try it out often enough I was shocked and made a deal for it with intentions to flip it for profit on reverb and drove 2 hours 1 way to get it and before I had paid for it I had fallen in love with it I have never bonded with a guitar so instantly that neck is literally shaped like my dream neck that I’ve always said take these 3 different bits of these 3 different necks and make the perfect neck put them together and it would be so comfortable it would become an extension of my body it’s so good that I actually sold my 2007 Gibson les Paul BFG it was my first real Gibson and the first thing I bought myself after I graduated it was good but I have 3 other guitars that I play regularly before that one now a days and I ended up buying a 1984 RS 530 it’s got the same tremolo as yours but still has the roadstar DX neck profile and original IBZ coil split bridge pickups and I’m happy I did I actually made more money than I paid brand new for the LP and it only cost half that with shipping for the RS530 it’s not perfect and it was fear to damage my RG at jam sessions and the love for the neck shape that lead to my decision It still needs new strings and the rosewood board is rough and I’m more of an ebony guy because I love the glassy feeling so I will do that when I have the time it’s just the finish on the back of the neck that is really keeping me from bonding with it and I’m not sure if sanding it will make the difference and if I do it and still don’t bond with it I risk losing money from the hit to it’s value because it’s clean enough to be very good condition but played enough to be willing to take it out and just be careful with it but not so clean that it’s like brand new and it’s older than I am so I really want to enjoy it but keep it as clean as possible for the next generation of players to enjoy but I do seriously like it and the feel is there it’s just the sticky finish instead of the raw oiled maple that’s the issue and I’m definitely not unhappy with it or the decision to sell a sentimental guitar I’d had for over a third of my life but before I start to get used to it and start liking it more as a really nice guitar I would trade it in a heartbeat for another Mid 80’s Ibanez that had the roadstar DX neck shape without the finish on the back that felt like my RG440 because what I really want is a #2 guitar that’s neck feels 90% the same as my #1 otherwise I’ll keep this new one because it has 24 frets and the shape of the neck is an old friend just sticky and it’s got a tremolo so I can have it in a drop tuning ….. ugh the guitarists dilemma lol

    My Pro Line Series, 1st gen, was my first electric back in early 80 something. I stopped playing it & it sat cased for decades as I was using SG's & Vantage etc... Pulled the old Ibanez out approx. 6 years ago, & restrung it, cleaned it up. Started playing it, sounded great, but....all of a sudden the pro rock'r on a bend with the arm, just cracked in half, lol... Thought, OK, I'll just get another Rock'r, couldn't find one anywhere. So, ended up removing it, filled the void with same wood, & painted, then used a floyd rose, & flush mounted it solid based. Plek'd it, set it up, & it actually plays better than what it did originally. Heh, Go figure. It's a unique setup, but it's fun to play once in a while, super fast neck and completely different tone than my SG's etc... But anyway's, great fun old piece of history I'm lucky to still have from purchasing it new back in the early 80's. I'll eventually change one of the single coils & the h/bucker at one point in time. Till then, it's fun !

    Couple things about the pro rokr...first a properly setup guitar thats has the fine tuners in the middle of their string travel will serve you fine when tuning if the strings are properly streched and installed correctly. All in the setup. Second. Never over tighten screws on the bridge ever. Its not necessary, leave overtightened screws for cars, not guitars. I have a pro rokr on my roadstar and it has served me well and the previous owner well since 85. Still no stripped screws or issues of any kind. If you are having issues then most if not all of the time its in the setup.

      I don't know anything about it but I would email mr_ibanez at yah00 d0t c0m (mispelled so he doesn't get spam) to see if he has the part in stock. If anyone has it he will. Just say "I am looking for a tremolo bar for a 1985 Ibanez Pro Line with a Pro Rockr bridge. Do you have one in stock?"

    Great video. I agree Pro Rock'r can be a headache but when it works it's a great system. The threads wore out on my low E so I just swapped to the A string and life was good. Do you have any links for replacement Pro Rock'r parts?

    • @railcity871
      @railcity871  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the comment and for watching, I agree! Email mr_ibanez at yah00 d0t c0m (spelled out weird so he doesn't get spammed by robots) He seems to have every vintage Ibanez part you can imagine, especially stuff that never pops up on Ebay. The bridge part I got was silver instead of black so I think he might machine his own parts, it worked great and fully repaired this guitar though.

      @@railcity871 thanks for posting the email i need a low E fine tuner for this guitar too, although maybe from any pro rocker bridge should work ok, Ibanez only made the model i have PR1550 for one year in 1985 parts are hard to find, it's a great guitar and plays like butter best neck i ever had to be honest never goes out of tune and so easy to play low low action and no buzz i have had it since 1985 and never had to adjust the neck once it has stayed the same all these years, hard to believe but truth , Peace !

      @@jixxxxer17 I just brought home a pearl white pr1550 today it’s mint. Paid $450 for it. Just finished setting it up and intonation. It’s an absolute shredder and for being 37 years old it’s nearly box fresh. Had my eye on it for the longest time and got a deal. Didn’t know they were only made for one year. Was going to change pickups but they sound great through my triple rectifier. Im now worried about it’s fragility but I’m not going on tour with it and I care for my instruments so I’ll be extra delicate.

      @@youngmike8645 always wanted that pearl white one too, yup they only made them for a year and I guess that's why there are not so many out there for sale. however, most people don't know how great these guitars are, enjoy !

      @@jixxxxer17 that’s for sure. Can’t wait to get done work and show it love. Stayed up too late setting it up. It was one of those situations where the shop didn’t quite know how badass it really is and I’ve watched countless people pass it by.

    I got a 1984 RS520 for free, it's pretty sweet. No tremolo arm so I blocked it.

      @railcity871  4 года назад

      Nice - the more I've recorded overdubs the more I've become a fan of the block for consistent tuning. Solid move. Roadstars used to be ~$250 from what I could see, now you seem them for more like $400-$500. A great guitar at any pricepoint I'm sure. Within the next couple weeks I'll be recording a review + demo of a 1996 purple RG570 so stay tuned.
