    Wanted to put this out there. As a full time RV'er. We keep our emergency meals and quick meals in seal a meal type bags as we don't travel with many jars. It is also nice to have dehydrated meals for something easy on travel days. it is easy to dehydrate on the road and know we have quality meals without additives we don't need in our food. Meals in a jar just bag the meals and put spices ect. in pouches. Love and respect your channels. Thank you for all you do.

      I have my travel trailer storage loaded with food. About 90- days. Freeze dried is a cheap option right now. I have 18 months of freeze-dried in commercial cool storage. Cost less than 2.4k for all that...

    We purchased our travel trailer in 2020. We were home with it for less than 24 hrs when we had to evacuate for a wildfire (which we never had before). We were evacuated for 10 days. The trailer is now always stocked with meals and ingredients and 5 days of clothing, along with laundry detergent. We can be hooked up and on the road in under 10 min easily.
    Because our trailer is very small and doesn't have much storage, we do eat from the food stores to supplement what we pack for our trips and I evaluate the inventory with each trip and restock as needed - but I always keep it full

    We have a permanent campsite. We normally make a giant Costco run in early spring and stock the camper with the staples for the season. During the pandemic, I needed to isolate. It was so convenient to just go out there and not have to worry about food or clothing. Since that time, we have expanded our stockpile to include more emergency preparedness items and clothing for multiple seasons. We have the means to be totally off grid in a remote location for a long period of time. It brings such peace of mind.

  • @5dragonflies1
    @5dragonflies1 Год назад +8

    Great idea! The only thing I'd change is to probably make up the kits for everything I'd need for a day or two, instead of type-of-meal-specific bins. That way, you could nest the empty bins or repurpose them for something like water collection. Plus, if you came across someone else in need you could pass them an all-day bin or two without compromising your own stash. Keeping the recipes in each bin is a great tip, in case the cook is away/down, or if you end up sharing with others!

    This video brings back some fond childhood memories of camping. Gotta love Cindy & John! I have a sister named Cindy and a brother named John. LOl! We used to go camping every year for 2 weeks my mother packed and prepared meals to feed 5 kids and we slept in tents. We fished up in Minnesota and got enough fish to last the rest of the summer. When we got home, Every Friday night we had a fish fry and fed the neighborhood. My Dad put in the garden just before we took the trip on Memorial Day and my grandmother stayed home to tend to the garden while we were away on the long fishing trip. My mother would freeze water in 1 gallon milk jugs and she used that for ice on our trip to freeze the fish until we were ready to cook it. She was a butcher and rendered her own lard to fry the fish. Everybody said she made the best fish and it's true! Thank you for sharing your sister and her husband with us again. I really enjoyed this break I took from working in the garden. Time to get back to work.

    Hi Pam, Jim, Cindy and John,
    Great video. This makes perfect sense. I always have my RV loaded with tons of food, baking supplies and such, as we are foodies! However, your idea is so very organized and with the recipes there it is a no-brainer. Finally we got our food storage organized. It was long and hard, but done. We need to open our bug out bags and see what we need to replace and what has expired. I love how organized Cindy and John are. They are amazing, as are you and Jim. I am still wowed by your gardening tip, Pam, with the PVC pipe and the seeds. Thank you all so much. Do you all have an EMP Shield for your trucks? We do, but we don’t have the RV one. If you have your solar generator with a 30 amp plug in it, you could plug your 30 amp RV into it, provided you have protected both with an EMP Shield, or the solar generator in an EMP protected box/bag. We still need to do our well with the EMP Shield. There is so much to consider and do. Being in our 70’s it is hard to think of everything, so I really appreciate you videos. Our family thinks we are crazy old people. It is nice to be able to be with like-minded people like you all. ❤. Oh! One more thing. Please get a yearly service check up on your RV’s. You need to keep them in tip top shape too. Our son is an RV Repairman. It is cheaper to keep up with everything than to have it break and get it repaired. The parts are getting harder to get my son says. So, get the air/heat/water tank serviced and looked at at least once per year. Take care of the black tank too. Pack any wheels as soon as it is time to with your RV’s maintenance schedule and rotate the tires. You need your bug out RV to be cared for prior to bugging out!

    Stocking ones RV would be great if one had such a bug out vehicle, but the home comes first, several cans a week (started a while ago and rotate) and canning from the garden. Hunkering down or bugging out, RV or not, if I had to bug out I'd say a shorter wheel base w 4 wheel drive would give me an advantage over all the other 1000's of people on the road trying to get out of town; the RV might be bogged down behind traffic for days if you have enough fuel. Good luck.

If I am stressed out about what is going on, I don't want to have to cook from scratch. I want easy, quick and comforting meals. It's a great 💡 idea. What I find fast and helpful is to have bins put together to rotate out as a whole. I did this when we had baby bags just always ready in the car. And a ready stocked bag to rotate with fresh supplies so you're always prepared!

    Well done...I would point out that the rings are left on the home canned jars...I think that is a great idea, given how these are stored. We are taught not to store jars this way, however I think this is a necessary tool to use when storing jars on their sides or can get knocked around. good on ya!

    Yes I have been doing this with my 24' tt in my driveway. Slowly adding SHTF stuff: bedding, pillows, Berkey, camping stuff, fire extinguisher, 12 volt frig, potty bucket, liners, solar lights etc. Need to add some food to it. But it gets hot in there here in California. I also have solar on the top.

    • @gymgirllja
      @gymgirllja Год назад +3

      Those rings you see are probably very loosely in place. Loose enough that a 2-year-old could take them off. It's only a storage thing and the rings are available to reseal a jar after it's opened.

      Laura B - I tried to leave a comment while I was waiting for a kiddo to come out of karate practice, and the connection there isn't so great. Then we got home, and I forgot to see if my reply actually posted! I remembered now though 😅 If the recipe Cindy used is the same one that's been talked about in a safe canning group I belong to, it can be found by searching online. The one I know of includes pears and she didn't mention that, so it may not be. I could never forget the name of the recipe though, nor the excitement it created amongst group members, because it called for some store bought, canned fruits - which usually would not be considered safe in a home canning recipe. I hope you can find it!

    What a great idea! I come from a large city and no one I know ever did food preservation or preparation like you do. Your channel is such a learning opportunity for me. I would love to see you doing a weekly meal plan at home that demonstrates how you "use what you store and store what you use." I have been very inspired by you, Jim, Cindy, and John to make and freeze meals and stock up on things when they are on sale. My larders feel like they are bursting at the seams. I’m curious how your thought process works during weekly meal planning and remembers to use up the things you have prepared or frozen for your food storage. I’m on board with adding to my storage, but not yet using the things I have stored. No one I know does any of this, so I would love to continue to learn from you. 👏🏻

We have a 30’ ft class c motorhome and we have discussed selling it many times BUT thinking we may need to use as a bug out or temporary home changes our mind every time! I have a lot of dehydrated foods, canned meat with beef being our favorite, freeze dried meats and cheeses and seafood. I’ve learned to make bread and now have ventured into sourdough baking as my expertise is in Mexican cooking. I have a sun oven, 2 Coleman collapsible ovens and even made an apple box oven which worked great when I made spareribs.

      This is a concern for me also. The winter is not a problem for me but summer temperatures get well over 100 in my trailer. I bring my bins inside and replenish what is needed then store them in my laundry room until we need them again. I just don’t trust the food being stored in extreme temperatures.

    We utilize this method at our house too, especially during summer when the forest fires start. We always have several packs of instant potatoes because we can make bread, flatbread tortilla type of bread, mashed potatoes, pancakes, etc. Rice and dry beans as well. Plus we always keep our garden seeds in a carry container so that if we have to relocate we can just grab the to go seed container and be able to grow our own food. On a separate note, I have a question about one of Cindy's dinner meals - She canned the stew meat and stew vegetables separately. I just wanted to know if there is a reason for that, like does she use the vegetables for more than just stew or was it a one time thing?

    We don't have an R.V., but we do have an S.U.V. - and we have kiddos, so different season of life! We keep a three month supply of food on hand (between fridge, pantry, and freezer) and so I went through our pantry at the beginning of summer and took everything out that I felt we could easily feed ourselves and the kids with if we had to (this means nothing that would require baking - ready to eat, or a quick heat up on a portable stove is all). I stacked it all evenly on the counter (accounting for weight of things like cans versus lightweight boxes of crackers), and I measured how large of a tub (two, actually) we would need to hold it all. I went and bought two tubs for this purpose. I'm also planning to take most of what we keep in our fridge (minus lots of the condiments) in a cooler.
