  • In Germany, we are aiming to become greenhouse gas neutral by 2045. An ambitious goal for climate protection and the environment. This requires far-reaching change in all areas, particularly in industry and the transport sector. We can only achieve our climate protection goals by switching to renewable energy sources.
The PtX Lab Lausitz in the city of Cottbus/Germany is a central player on this path to greenhouse gas emissions. Through interdisciplinary cooperation and cross-sectoral solutions, the lab advises industry, politics and science. It gathers knowledge and creates synergies to facilitate the transition to sustainable energy sources.
A central approach of the PtX Lab Lausitz is the development of synthetic fuels for air and sea transport, based on renewable energies and green hydrogen. These innovative solutions are crucial, as green electricity cannot be used directly in aeroplanes and ships.
Power-to-liquid (PtL) fuels enable more sustainable production and offer an alternative to fossil fuels. PtL pilot plant technologies can make both air and water transport and the chemical industry greenhouse gas-neutral.
To realise this vision, there is an urgent need to build production capacity for PtL pilot plants and to start the market ramp-up. The production of these fuels requires a lot of electrical energy, which is only greenhouse gas neutral if it comes from renewable sources.
In addition, innovative approaches such as Direct Air Capture (DAC) are being explored to capture CO2 from the air and incorporate it into the production of synthetic fuels.
It is crucial that the resources for the energy transition are globally sustainable and equally available. The PtX Lab Lausitz is actively driving structural change and shaping the future of energy supply in Germany.
