Late reply-- According to my understanding Miyazaki is aware of this and has seen it! In fact Studio Ghibli at one point wanted to endorse this project, however the creaters refused under the reason that they didn't want to cause trouble for Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki if there was an accident!
Is there any speed or altitude where it is possible to just hold yourself up like Nausicaä with your hands on the rails and your whole body in the air? Or do you always have to keep low? Thank you in advance for your reply.
I'm guessing that the wind does of a good job of holding your head up without much effort. Remember that the pilot is looking into a wind that's probably 60 mph or so.

he was trained in college to be a technical draftsman who designed airplanes, it makes sense that his designs would actually work IRL.
