I'm 44 and have been riding for 30 years. In NZ it's still super popular and gaining riders all the time. I still go to the mountains with my friends, skiers and riders.
Personally I prefer skiing, because you're mutch faster and have more control. Also I've never heard of ski only resorts as a Austrian, but I agree that some skiers look down on snowboarders.

Nothing like saying, those derby goofballs with their snow pants below their ankles have swag… if you’re ripping, some really good carved turns on Skis you can put so much more power into it than you can on the snowboard… there’s nothing quite like the feeling of riding hip on the ice edges perpendicular to the hill while carving at 60 miles an hour…

This sort of thing was normalized and I got out before I ended up too deep. I don't think that many snowboarding communities are like this though, but this was my experience. I grow up skiing, started snowboarding as teeneger, my whole family are skiiers also most of my friends. I enjoy riding on groomed slopes, don't go into park, because jumping is scary. I have too much self-preservation and scared of breaking my neck. Also back-country, which I see a lot on RUclips, seem like so much trouble. I like speed and doing nice carved turns. I am in Europe and that's what I see most people doing, even snowboards. Everybody just ride on groomed pistes and noone goes "off road". Over here I don't really see much difference between skiers and snowboarders, but maybe it's because I hangout mostly with skiers or mixed groups. personally, i tried skiing for 7 years and always hated it, never improved, and it made me hate going on vacation to the mountains. trued snowboarding a month ago and im already a better snowboarder than i was skier. its so fun and im pissed my parents didnt let me do it sooner 😂

Im a Snowboarder who went from skiing and I thought skiing was fun until i try snowboarding you can do so many tricks on small lumps and skiing only resorts are good beacuse often the pists are wery steep and that is hard to go on with snowboard but both are really cool the only thing that is bad with skiing is the rich people with thigth clothes
completely unbiased here ~ Skiing is easier to learn basics and do a lot of simple skills but the more you do it the longer it takes to progress ~ snowboard is much harder to start off but there’s a little bump where if you manage to get over it, if because much easier. Also tricks are easier because you only have to manage one thing on your feet.

This is a major complaint that skiers have about snowboarders. The lack of maneuverability that snowboards have means that you need to have much higher situational awareness. It’s not fair… But it is the reality. Skiers can ski much closer to each other and direction much more easily so the likelihood of crashing is lower. If you’re on a snowboard, you need to stay further away from people to avoid hitting them.
The thing is people don’t like how both of your feet are tied together on a board/snowboard and then with skiing you have more freedom with your legs and so if you fall on skis the skis will come off unlike a snowboard
I have been skiing since I was three and then I learned how to skateboard, so I switched to snowboarding, it is definitely harder to learn than skiing, but so much fun and so rewarding, but I am also very bias because of my skateboarding experience, both are cool but I prefer snowboarding
You forgot a lot of factors, for example on a snowboard you have to unbuckle your bindings every time you get to the bottom and re strap every time you get to the top. I think overall snowboards are cooler but skis are more practical.
What ever is cooler is what you like because you’ll be more comfortable being good at something than trying to look cool doing something you’re not good at so if you want to get into skiing or snowboarding try them both on rentals and get some entry lessons it’ll make the experience better

Alta is so calm with no snowboarders, and it’s the only resort with a lot of old people. And not all skiers are old, I’m young, most racers like me are young, most park guys are young
I went to a mountain with my youth group, I snowboard and all my friends ski. Most of them are beginners but I can go on blacks. All the do is pizza down the mountain which takes zero skill, but most of the time, I was swerving around doing heel-toe. Which is significantly slower
