Thank you gentlemen- I am a woman from eastern Ky, and you are correct in mentioning that there is a sometimes vast difference in value placed on male vs female gender (males being higher on any scale). At least that has been my experience being raised in small, very rural areas. I am appreciative of the fact that you are also sensitive to cultural influences on responses…I was taught never to “air my laundry” in front of people not in my immediate family group - it would have been unthinkable to express strong emotion (particularly negative) in public…it was called “showing your self” and that would be shameful and bring shame to your family. I am also appreciative of your understanding that people who are not highly educated, and sometimes completely illiterate, may not be able to find the descriptors to convey what they are experiencing. That does not mean they do not have deep and overwhelming feelings. There is a tendency for disrespect and harsh judgement from people unfamiliar with the lifestyle and unspoken cultural norms of the poor or even middle class southern population. So good on y’all for getting it.

Mark is right. These are folks from my neck of the woods. If you're going to be "tore up" about something, you do it behind closed doors. It's also common here to drink (or whatever) to numb emotions. Very common.
If you guys are interested in this culture, there's a great book - from the 60's - called "Yesterday's People". It's a great ethnography of Appalachian folks. When I read it, I understood my father and his family so much better. He was a man of few words and even fewer emotions. It comes from generational distrust of outsiders and not showing vulnerabilities.
Ha! Chase called it too. (I should wait until the end to comment!)

    2. Let her go. Not give her back, letting go implies death. They implied death a lot.
    3. The boys are grieving. Again this implies they already believe she's dead. If someone snatched my kid, she's not dead until I touch her body, until then she's alive in my brain. A mother doesn't give up hope. This statement also bothered me because it's just "the boys," not "we". Why is she not grieving and crying with them? And then he uses past tense a lot as mentioned.

And one more thing.. each relationship is unique to the person who has that with God. But God also knows who uses his name in vain, and in dishonesty. No matter how many words a person spits out about him, God knows which are true and which are not. So he will deal with each us personally, too. I don't feel any passion behind his words when he talks about Jesus, then he does about Summer. They are used like filler to paint a picture around his persona. But that picture feels blank when he's done. It's hard to imagine 7nder what circumstances this story really unfolds, and I will be the first to say my intuitions and perceptions were wrong here, but I believe the guilt for Summers disappearance lies withing those walls. One perp. The rest co-conspirators likely by intimidation. I was not impressed with the session the 4 behaviorists held. I feel slightly paranoid that the idea is to get the 2 parents feeling safe with Dr. Phil and them, by giving prior approval, to play into the parents heads, and make them a case study with a show stopper. It doesn't take a doctor of anything to discern specifics that can't be denied. At this point the parents will likely have to fight to prove their innocence, even if it takes forever.. this will follow them until answers are had. Despite no hard evidence they were neglectful or abusive.

Her brain is probably protecting her from that trauma too. I think its natural for a mother of multiple children to get emotional over what her other children feel over what she's feeling. Hearing her boys cry must just compound the grief.😔😔

Of course my interpretation but no one addressed his demeanor which is saying something by being totally disengaged. I'm only halfway through the video but have so far rarely seen them so agree on truthfulness and innocence. Call it "female intuition" but something just "bothers" me about the Dad. I may be influenced by the fact that I lived with a male Covert Narcissist for many years before I escaped "Narc Hell"! A Narc is not particular to any culture but a degree of poverty and a male dominated Southern culture certainly MAY imply this little boy and Sunshine's Mother could POSSIBLY be under the Father's control. The red flags showing to me may very well be influenced by my life experience and I don't want to malign an innocent Father!! I would be extremely interested in your take on what I have said and any criticism or agreement. So BarbaraL Lowell, I hope you can help me with a reply! I found what you said in your comment extremely interesting! There is also the fact the Father seems to have been prior in trouble with the law and possibly sentencing. Again, one must factor in that people can change particularly if they have TRULY had a renewed relationship with God and a newfound absolutely truthful relationship with Jesus (which appears to have occurred prior to the little girl's missing). Thank you in advance for any comment BarbaraL! At 71 yrs young, I believe I have attained some wisdom and discernment ~ this one has me stumped!!

@@lindahaggard6416 so nice of you to reach out to me. Yes at 79 me too, I can usually sniff people out and I know enough about my conditioning to evaluate whether or not I am projecting. If I can see something and still feel compassion for the "bad guy" then I know I am tuning in. If I am making the person guilty, wrong or evil, I know my button has been pressed and it may still be true, but I am not seeing clearly, all charged up from my past experiences. I think you can feel when Jesus has been welcomed into someone's heart, there is a kindness, a softness, an understanding that we are all victims of our circumstances and societal conditioning and are taught we are not good enough, we don't measure up to societal standards, and we are lacking this and lacking that. We construct compensatory ways of disguising this and feel justified because the world wronged us while others have a bed of roses life. A lot of pretense around religion by looking down at the "bad" people and yes I agree, people can change and grow and make amends. Seeing thru a fresh lens each time instead of kneejerk is not easy, takes vigilance. For me when I get really stuck with buttons pressed and feeling judgmental and self righteous, I ask for help and turn it over to Spirit, in my case Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I have done the whole Spiritual trip sine 1969 and it's a lifeswork, you have to humble yourself every day. I married an MD narcissist in a family of MD narcissists and got out after 5 years, and it took 50 more years of spiritual and psychological therapy to get a handle on what happened, the grip was so tenacious. I thought it was all my fault, whatever happened the guilt was always on me. The punchline was I married my psychiatrist!!!! EEEEKS talk about lost soul me. He was a dogged atheist who tried to derail me at every turn belittling God at eery turn. Being from PA/WV boarder, Appalachian Mts area i can tell you this is a cultural thing. 100%. People DO NOT show emotions, especially sadness in public. Cause it is a sign of being weak. And the difference in the way people act from people who live "in the mountains" compared to people who live in town is night and day. The people in town show emotion almost to the point of exhaustion (i guess to show everyone how in touch with their feelings they are, lol), and mountain people make fun of them for it. MAYBE if you have one mountain person, ALONE, you might have a chance of getting some strong signs of sadness or worry, but its just NOT going to happen in a public space like on here. It DOES NOT make them bad people. I have alot of friends and family from the mountains, and everyone of them have an extremely strong family unit and would give you the shirt off of their back. Just dont expext them to get really excited when things go sideways in their life, cause its just not gonna happen.

100% agree. I think some people have been through so much in their life that it's almost another (tragic) card they have been handed in life. I feel they or especially the mother at least is genuinely devastated, not from only this video but other footage of her being interviewed. Also, I believe they said its maybe day 4 since she has been missing, they have probably been through some very high emotions and shock over the first couple of days that they are just absolutely emotionally drained and exhausted. She doesn't want to go to that dark place. She feels she should be able to do something about the situation right in front of her (sons) but cannot. She feels failure in everything right now.
