    Maiu, I will try to explain to you why beaver fur is the best you can have in cold cold weather. Like many other kinds of fur, beaver fur can provide you with an incredible level of warmth, making it ideal for winter outerwear. First, it has a built-in wetsuit consisting of two layers of fur. There’s a shorter, thick underfur that traps warm air against the skin. This is protected by a longer layer of fur called guard fur, which keeps water away from the layer underneath. Beaver fur is also waterproof because of oil produced in castor glands near the base of the tail. All of these nifty features come in handy, as beavers spend a lot of time in the water and can remain underwater for 15 minutes at a time. So, whomever made you those huge mittens really likes you because they are the best mittens possible in cold cold weather, I live in Canada so I kind of know what it is when the temperature goes in the - 30 +.

For snowmobile expeditions or dog sledding i use a thin liner glove with the three finger hestra mitt over the top and then a big pair of leather mitts to keep the wind away. Gotta get some big expedition gloves theyre amazing

    When working on aeroplanes in -20°C I wore British aircrew leather gloves with or without silk liners. They kept my hands warm and supple enough to handle tools and small screws, plus they dried really quickly if they got wet. The only problem was that the thin leather could wear very quickly. In your case they would work well under mittens if you need to do some sensitive work.

    • @MaiuLunekund
      @MaiuLunekund  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I agree that leather will wear down with hard use, especially when they get completely wet. That's why we are using here relatively cheap leather gloves for harder work and I have to change them about 3 times a season.

    I am glad to see you making videos again, You are one of my favorite youtubers. Your advice is spot on. Over 50 years ago, I was in the military and we had very similar gloves. Wool under glove, with leather gloves over them and then big mittens over them. I never got cold wearing them. Do you use any kind of conditioner (oil) on your leather gloves to make them waterproof? I used to put Vaseline on them and allow them to sit by a heater overnight so that the leather could fully absorb it.

    How to figure out sizing when ordering the mittens and gloves online- when you want to adjust for wearing glovers of liners underneath? One, two, or three sizes up? I want to order from your links provided.
    Do you have any tips for wearing eye glasses and face coverings (I HATE coating glasses in Vaseline) for anti fogging? Do any one there in Sweden wear ski goggles to keep the tiny bits of eyes that are exposed from freezing?
    Also how to deal with the constant nose blowing? I hate taking off the mittens to dig out a handkerchief to blow constantly while snow shoeing. All face coverings I have tried fog up my glasses, or have other issues.

    • @MaiuLunekund
      @MaiuLunekund  3 года назад

      For glasses I have no experience and no tips :( All I know my friend uses contact lenses to avoid the fogging issue altogether. For running nose I just swipe it either to my gloves or to my buff. Sounds gross but hey, I swallow that stuff anyway 🤷‍♀️😃 so i really don't care and just use by buff/neck scarf. For gloves, you can easily order 3 sizes up, it really don't matter if they are bigger that needed when planning to use them as overmitts. If using as the first layer I would order 1 size up.
